Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Novel by Karen Hawkins! Review: "The Seduction of Sara" by Karen Hawkins is a wonderful story that my wife, Ellen, & I enjoyed sharing together very much. Intrigue and excitment almost on every page.
Rating: Summary: A Light - Hearted Romp Review: A light-hearted romp with lots of sexual tension, a bad-boy hero to fall in love with and a spirited heroine well deserving of him, make The Seduction Of Sara one of the most enjoyable regency historicals. It's Brighton, and Nick Montrose, Earl of Bridgeton wants to return to polite society after he was forced out of the country due to a scandal involving his cousin's wife (read Karen Hawkins' The Abduction Of Julia). With menacing undertones of a pending disaster in the form of an illness waiting to take over his body and his fate Nick might be ill, but unlike in other stories this hero is not whining and succumbing to his ailments, not wallowing in his bad fortune. This is a man that goes after what he wants and when he wants it. Love at first sight it was for me - what a formidable tortured hero! Could it get any better? Yes! Enter the heroin, a wilful young widow. Sara, Lady Carrington. Sent to Bath to find a husband, Sara decides on Nick and sets out to beat him in his own game of seduction But Nick is unwilling and all the other men she goes after are dropping like flies. Read it, enjoy it, be seduced by it and fall in love with Karen Hawkins' worthy characters!
Rating: Summary: Extremely Enjoyable Review: I enjoyed this book so much I wanted to give it five stars but the plot just doesn't hold up. Another reviewer gives a good description of the plot inconsistencies. The premise of the book, that Sara will marry nearly anyone just to thwart her brothers also seems flimsy. Even still this book is a great read.
Rating: Summary: better than "the abduction of julia" Review: I have a feeling that one day Ms. Hawkins will write something that I will appreciate, but unfortunately, that day has not come. And actually, I would really rate this 2 1/2 stars, because it is bettern than other books I have read by her. While "The Seduction of Sara" was much better than "The Abduction of Julia", it still felt extremely forced. Nothing flowed together very well, and while the characters themselves were fine, it felt like something was off the entire time. The end seemed to be put together very rapidly, and the entire book read awkwardly. Sara, the heroine, is a widow. She has started behaving and dressing scandlously. Her over-protective brothers send her to Bath, where they basically intend to force her to marry, even though they love her, and it's her best interests they have at heart. Nick, the hero, is the Earl of Bridgeton, and the earlier "bad guy" from "The Abduction of Julia". Apparently he has been reformed by his stay on the Continent. He wants her as his mistress, but she needs a husband, preferably one of her own choosing before her brothers come and force her to marry. They end up compromised by her two eldest brothers, there's a shocker, and are forced to marry. Nick has an "illness" he doesn't want to tell Sara about, and one that he does not want to pass on to his children, which limits the intercourse. He drives her away, but at the very end she comes back. Phew. Like Julia Quinn, I still do think that Karen Hawkins has potential, but unlike Julia Quinn, there is nothing thus far to make reading her attempts worthwhile.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I have so far enjoyed each book of Karen Hawkins but so far The Seduction of Sara is my favorite. I was excited once I realized that Nick would be the main character in this book after reading about him in The Abduction of Julia. I can't wait to start reading the next book in the series.
Rating: Summary: It was good read, but... Review: I made several trips to my area bookstores in search of this book. I'd loved this author's previous works, particularly THE ABDUCTION OF JULIA, and couldn't wait to get her newest release. She's incredibly talented with a keen sense of wit and an ability to write intriguingly drawn characters, lush description and sensual love scenes. She's amazingly talented and that's why I was utterly disappointed in this story. All of the elements were there again. Great characters, witty repartee, incredible description and sizzling love scenes...but the plot that held it all all together simply never gelled for me. Nick spends the first half of the book determined to make Sara his mistress, then when they are wed, he suddenly decides that they can no longer be intimate because he doesn't want children. (There's a reason for that, but I won't go into it.) At any rate, couldn't she have just as easily gotten pregnant as his mistress? Frankly, it just didn't make sense. There was enough conflict between the two to sustain the book to the end without that element. It was still an entertaining read, with great secondary characters. They're well-drawn, compelling, and when their stories are available, I'll trundle back to Books-A-Million and try again. This author is capable of great things, so it's worth it.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I was looking forward to this book, because I enjoyed "A Belated Bride" so much. Unfortunately, this book has too much frustration and anger, and not enough humour to make it an enjoyable read.
Rating: Summary: A light hearted enjoyable read! Review: I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I can't wait to read the 2 books that start this "saga" off. What I liked the best was that there were several characters that were very involved and because of this, I can't wait for the books that will follow this one. Yes, there are some typical aspects to the story but I was surprised more than once by the turn of events. This is definately a fun, easy read that was light hearted and just plain ol' enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing!! Review: I was very disappointed with The Seduction of Sara. This book came highly recommeded to me through ... and from some of my favorite authors. I expected the story to be witty, seductive, and romantic. What I got was a choppy, irratic story with a premise that doesn't work anymore for me. Nick is okay, as far as heroes go. He came across to me as exactly what he was-an outcast member of the nobility with lecherous tendencies. I think Sara was good to a certain extent-she was a young widow who had a bad marriage and wanted her freedom. I think she deserved a man who would sweep her off her feet and show her what being loved felt like. Instead, she got Nick. I couldn't even stretch my imagination to see how megrims/migraines could be a reason for such a big secret between Nick and Sara. I think Nick should have been rational enough to know to stay away from the laudanum!! I found myself focusing more on the subplot of Anthony and Anna. There was more sexual tension between the two of them than there was between Nick and Sara. I am actually looking forward to reading An Affair to Remember (Anthony and Anna), despite the fact that I found this story so lacking. I will be a much more cautious from now on when considering other's recommendations.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book! Review: I've had this on my TBR pile since it came out. I've been a bit tired of regency set romances lately, but I'm glad I finally got around to it. I love the way Karen does her humor and Nick was spectacular as a hero. Great fun. Now if I can just get to August for her next one.
