Rating: Summary: Funny! Review: This book was a bit different than most of Linda Howard's books. It was still basically a romance, but it was very funny (laughing out loud funny!) and didn't seem to concentrate on an extraneous plot as much as some of her other books. I loved the book and will definitely keep it and read it again. BUT, the second half of the epilogue makes you flip back through the pages and try to figure out what you missed and why this jerkwad badguy/hitman is now being portrayed as this wonderful human being who is going to help "save" someone from their horrible past. Give me a break! I loaned the book to a friend but told her not to bother reading the last two pages of the book.
Rating: Summary: Loved this book Review: Of all the Linda Howard books I've read. This is one of my top three.
Rating: Summary: Disappointed former Linda Howard fan. Review: I used to be such a huge Linda Howard fan, but I have been so disappointed in her last couple of books. This book was not the worst book I have read this year - but it came very close. I loved the book All the Queen's Men so much and also enjoyed Kill and Tell. It just doesn't seem possible that this book was written by the same author. I just couldn't get into it, it was that boring. I found the character of Daisy to be totally unbelievable - nobody is that dowdy and uptight. Women do not just wake up on their thirty-fourth birthday and decide Gee, maybe I shouldn't live with my mother anymore. They don't wake up at thirty-four and suddenly decide Gee, I think I might want to have sex. She talks about all the magazine articles she reads, but never realized until her thirty-fourth birthday that her clothes were ugly, or that she should try some makeup. Come on! I couldn't help but notice that after her makeover - she looked exactly like Linda Howard on the back cover (right down to the anklet). Jack is O.K. - I just don't believe for a second that he finds Daisy so captivating. As for suspense - forget it, there is none. Linda Howard is just trying too hard to write comedy when she should stick to the stuff she turned out so perfectly in 'Queen's Men'. This book just isn't worth your time (or money). I didn't like Mr. Perfect either, but this one was worse. Unless she starts writing her characters and situations as well as she has in the past, I can't recommend them to anyone.
Rating: Summary: High voltage, finely plotted, "firecracker of a read" Review: On her thirty-fourth birthday, Daisy Minor awakens to the clamorous ringing of her biological clock, counting down to ten, nine, eight...A "good girl" clear to the bone, Daisy still lives with her widowed mother and spinster aunt; has mousy brown hair; works at a small-town library; and hasn't been kissed in years -- although it feels more like decades! She dearly wants a husband and home to call her own, however. Hence, the epiphany: if she can't snare a man as a good girl, why not turn bad? At the very least, Daisy could achieve a sense of style: clothes, hair, makeup, and turn into a party girl, visiting clubs in a nearby county. Her transformation from boring librarian to sexy siren isn't as difficult as she once feared (after Daisy is given a helping hand). Unfortunately, Hillboro's chief of police, Jack Russo, is cramping her style and sabotaging her hunt for a husband! The dratted man is like a head cold she just can't shake; oh, sure, he ushered her to safety after that fight broke out in the club (and she accidentally crushed a poor man's, err, delicate parts), but does he have to show up at the local pharmacy while she's buying a party pack of condoms? A small town is notorious for gossip, after all; what better way to advertise her availability to the single men than to buy condoms at a local store? Jack has plans for Miss Daisy, however -- and they don't include anyone else. Just a bed (hell, an empty room!) and this delightfully prim librarian who amuses him to no end. Something is foul in this peaceful Mayberry-like town, though, and Jack's protective instincts are roused. Daisy is smack-dab in the middle of trouble; but what kind of trouble, and how can Jack extricate her? Because there's no way in hell he's letting any harm to come to his woman! After reading OPEN SEASON, my fear that Ms. Howard is going "too mainstream" has once again been set aside. Humor, suspense, and sexual tension are balanced superbly throughout; and the romance between Daisy and Jack is definitely worthy of a Howard novel. More time could've been spent developing their relationship, however. (I simply yearned for more of that delicious chemistry: Jack is a muscle-bound, roughly-hewn "jock" whereas Daisy is ever so prim and proper -- except when provoked by Jack, of course. Polar opposites, one would think, and yet the sparks fly fast and furious). And not only is Jack a prime specimen, he's also intelligent, has a ribald wit, and worked on a SWAT team in Chicago (hence he has that dark and dangerous quality as well)! OPEN SEASON is a more direct approach to romantic suspense than Ms. Howard's previous novel, MR. PERFECT (meaning that the plot twists are few and far between, and little guess work is required by the reader). I nonetheless relished it! For a high-voltage, intelligently plotted, "firecracker of a read," OPEN SEASON is just the ticket for a romance reader on the hunt!
Rating: Summary: great Linda Howard story Review: Linda Howard is a master (mistress???) at writing tight mysteries with great humor and engaging characters. I laughed out loud at so many of the interchanges between the characters -- she makes each one come alive. When the story ends, you feel like you have made some wonderful new friends.
Rating: Summary: Great vacation book Review: I loved this book and it was wonderful reading on my vacation. I could not put it down and as soon as I finished it, I went out to get another by the same author.

Rating: Summary: Bored Librarian Gets More Than She Bargained For! Review: What a fun read! I had a ball reading this book, and didn't put it down until I'd finished. This is the story of Daisy Minor, librarian. When she wakes up on her 34th birthday, she comes to the realization that she is boring, her life is boring, her clothes are boring, and she wants to get married and have a family. Her mother and aunt are completely supportive of her sudden change in attitude, and enlist the help of a friend to help Daisy with her makeover. Deciding to hit the clubs, Daisy stumbles into more than she ever bargained for! Fortunately, the town sheriff rescues her when she accidentally starts a barroom brawl, and from then on he is always one step behind her. This sudden attention infuriates Daisy at first, but soon she finds she is extremely attracted to the sheriff, as he is in her. Intricately woven into Daisy's story is a story of illegal immigrant smuggling. When she accidentally witnesses the murder of one of the men involved in the smuggling, she is in danger of being murdered. This is a fun romp, full of good romance, a little mystery, and a little intrigue!
Rating: Summary: Linda Howard is the best. Review: Linda Howard has done it again. This was one of those books I simply couldn't put down. Her characters are strong and well-defined, easy to relate to, and the story was fast-paced and interesting. The romance was steamy but not too much so. All in all, it was extremely entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Check this one out!! Review: This book is about a woman that thinks she is so plain. Her name is Daisy Minor and she is so boring. She just turned 34 and wants to spice up her life. She gets a make over and is totally sexy now. Her first time in a night was a blast until she got thrown out by Jack, chief police of the town. He is handsome for his age and is very annoying to Daisy. He loves bugging her and realizes that he wants her for himself. This book is also about a killer that uses the date rape drug to get women or teens. Daisy finds herself in the middle of things. I love this book. It is funny and very romantic. I really suggest it that you read this book. If it [wasn't very good], I wouldn't had recommended it to you. Please take your time and read this. You won't regret it.
