Summary: Hugely entertaining. And "hugeness" is an important element
Review: I loved it--the zany humor, the hot sex, the tender moments, and the witty repartee. A book to brighten any day.

Summary: Beauty and the Beast in reverse.
Review: I loved the story, but I could not get past the picture Ms. Dodd kept painting of Jane. She was not very likeable. First of all she was described as large and unattractive. Her personality was that of a 50 year old woman, when indeed she was only 27. I found nothing to attract Ransom to her other than her fasination with sculpting his body. His loyalty to her troubled me. He informed on her, yet he married her. What a way to begin a marriage. I don't know maybe its just me, but these two did not have good chemistry between them.

I like the fantasy of a beautiful heroin and a handsome hero. If I want reality I'll stick with life. I like to lose my self in the world of my novels. This book left me with a difficult time picturing the characters.

Summary: Not her best
Review: I thought the book was ok. Really good in parts, dragged in others. I'm glad I read some of her other books though because they are really good.

Summary: Oh My God, this book is amazing!!!
Review: I was hooked on chapter one and compelled to rush on to the end in one night ( and into the morning ). The characters are the grab your heart kind. You get so involved you realize you're laughing out loud. This is one of the best books I've read in awhile. I'm putting it up and saving it for my ten mos. old daughter when she grows up. I cannot stress enought that you must by this book.

Summary: It was alright
Review: I was really looking forward to reading this book because of the reviews I had read, but was some what disappointed. Do not get me wrong, it was an ok book but not really good.
It starts off badly, in my opinion. Ransom, the main guy, is arrogant and got on my last nerve for the first few chapters. It was really an effort to keep reading but I am some what glad that I did because you will kinda understand why he is the way he is. Jane, the main female, I really did not have a problem with, most of the time. She put Ransom in his place most of the time and I really liked that about her.
The story itself was kinda weird. The writing was not very smooth and I had some problems with it. It is some what of a mystery but not a really good one. Ransom was in the army fighting the French when he was injured and now is a spy for England trying to catch a traitor of England. Jane has not seen Ransom or been to England in 11 years because of a statue that she made of Ransom. Ransom lived through the scandal with out any problems but Jane was sent to the Country to live with her mean brother-in-Law. But she has to go to London because of her nieces first season. Jane believes everyone has forgotten that terrible night and puts a brave face on and goes back to London. At a ball Ransom spots Jane and all his rage comes back and he wants to get back at her. So he decides to use Jane to cause a scandal, in a sense, so that he can get information about how could be the traitor.
Ransom has had a little thing for her but he of course denies it to himself. Jane has loved him and thought of him as a god since the first scandal happened but has also grown since then and starts to see he is not a god but an arrogant, self righteous man, but of course still loves him.
There is another story line with Ransoms best friend and Ransoms sister but it did not flow very well with the book. It could have been left out and still be an ok book. If you like historical this book is not that bad, just weird writing, in my opinion. The book also seemed kinda rushed and I hate that in books. It is like she wanted to write this awesome book but it would have been too long so she shortened it to much were it doesn't flow very well.

Summary: Nice book
Review: I won't write a long review because oyu know what the story is by reading the above. I liked it and I read alot of books.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Terrible; unfunny and ludicrous
Review: I wrote a lengthy review of this book a couple of weeks ago, but for some reason it has not appeared (yet others which discuss more of the plot than I did have!). Anyway, I thought this was a terrible book.

To begin with, Dodd takes far too long to tell us what happened on that 'scandalous' evening; once she explains that, it's then clear that there is more to be told: what happened when Jane went to see Blackburn (Ransom?! What a ridiculous name!) several days later. By the time Dodd told us this, I'd completely lost interest.

Dodd needs to be more aware of period manners and behaviour; far too many things happen in this book which are completely wrong for the period. The silly girl who caused the scandal at the party in the first place would never have been able to do it; she'd have been quashed immediately and then disgraced. There is far too many first-name usage. And far, far too many scenes in which Jane is alone with Blackburn.

Some scenes which were obviously intended to be humorous - eg the aftermath of the attic scene - left me cold and cringing.

The spy plot was boring - and what on earth was Blackburn's friend up to? Was he a good guy or a bad guy? It was hard to tell; his motivation seemed to change by the page. In fact, I was very disappointed in the outcome of his romance; Blackburn's sister was the one character in the book I actually liked, and she deserved a lot better.

(And WHAT was with all the italics in her dialogue?)

The scene at the docks, which some other reviewers seemed to like, didn't appeal to me at all; I couldn't believe in it, and it didn't make me like the characters any better.

Dodd's books are clearly not for me.

Summary: How I Got the Idea for THAT SCANDALOUS EVENING
Review: In more prudish times, nude statues such as Michelangelo's David were draped to protect the ladies' modesty. I kept thinking -- what if you were a young, innocent Regency debutante with a great deal of artistic talent, and what if you fell in love and as a tribute to your gentleman, you did a full-sized clay statue of him in the classic style. You know, nude. You'd never have seen a naked man, but the statues you had studied would give you an idea of how to proportion the muscles, or at least most of them, and that one matter in which men take such pride -- well, you'd know to cover it with a figleaf. Unfortunately for Jane, my heroine, her statue was revealed for all to see and the figleaf was much, much too small. The resulting disgrace infuriated the man of her dreams and got her banished to the country. But eleven years later, she's back as a chaperone and sure no one remembers the scandal ...
