Summary: First romance novel I ever read, and I am hooked!!
Review: I remember looking at some books to check out and read, I just happened to walk by the romance section (I wasn't into those books yet), then from the corner of my eye, I see this title big abd bold. I went over to look at it and it turns out to be "The Raider." I check it out and once I started, I couldn't put it down. It was great! Since then, I've been reading Jude Deveraux's books.

Summary: This book is worth it to read!!!!
Review: I though that this book of Jude's was one of the best. The hero not only played the role of a dashing raider, but he also played a dual role, which allowed him to show different facets of his personality. This particular facet that Alex was, the fat man, was what the heroine had to learn to appreciate. And when she was able to, did Alex truly show her, who he was. This really tests the human psyche, allowing one to question whether they would fall for the mad dashing hero or the silent hero. This is one that Jude readers will love!! :)

Summary: Great Book
Review: I thought this was a very funny and enjoyable book. I almost felt like there were three main characters instead of two. When I started the book I wasn't sure if it was really of interest to me (I thought it was going to be like Batman or Spiderman about a guy with an alter ego)(even though it wasn't!) but after the first chapter I was totally hooked. I really enjoy this author's books.

Summary: "Raider" is my favorite book by Jude Deveraux
Review: I've read and own almost all of Jude Deveraux's novels. I love all of them. They add the romance that real life doesn't offer. "Raider" is my favorite of all. The dashing hero, the sassy heroine. This book's got it all. Keep up the good work, Jude, and I'll keep buying them. By the way, I love how almost of all her books tie in the Montgomery's and the Taggerts.

Summary: boring, boring , boring
Review: Jude Deveraux is my favorite romance novelist, but this book was seriously lacking. It started off good, but then came as painful to read as getting a tooth pulled.

The basic core of the book was good I guesss, but Deveraux couldn't pull it off. I didn't like the two main characters I felt they were stupid and thick headed, especially the female lead Jessica Taggert, who was selfish, mean and a complete idot. The only reason I finished this book was because I bought it.

This book is a waste of day.

Summary: The Scarlet Pimpernel-Devereaux Style
Review: One of Jude Devereaux's best books. Another Montgomery, Alexander, is the town buffoon by day, the dashing Raider who steals the heart of Jessica Taggert by night. Great when she finally falls in love with Alex's soul, not his face. Jude should stick to classic stories like this.

Summary: A man in black atop a magnificent beast.....................
Review: Put two stubborn, unmoving, passionate and proud people together and what do you get? Jessica Taggert and Alexander Montgomery of course! Alexander is a shadow of the night, a man who goes around America saving citizens and on the very first night, gets shot instead. As the Raider is being searched for, he escapes in a disguise aboard a friends ship. Alex is a fine Montgomery man and a splendid woman with strenght is Jessica Taggert. Read this and if you haven't yet fallen under the spell of all those Montgomery men and women in those fine books by Jude Deveraux, this will win you over

Summary: The Scarlet Pimpernel with humour
Review: The story is a variation of the Scarlet Pimpernel but with a dash of humour added. I loved this book. I liked both characters and I was glad that the heroine stayed faithful once she got married. I loved the fact that Alex was jealous of his alter ego. Made me laugh out loud. Hope that I discover other JD books as good as this one.

Summary: Slightly predictable, yet worth the time.
Review: The story line is a bit cliche: A man dressed in all black, bearing a simple black mask, becomes a beacon of hope to a small town, while romancing the town's most beautiful and independent girl...a bit like Zorro, only set in colonial New England. However, while it is obvious what the outcome will be, the journey there is what makes this such a good read. Deveraux's use of humorous situations and comical dialog is what sets this tale apart from all other similar writings. I found this story truly enjoyable.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent story; lots of twists and turns; great fun
Review: The story line is super ... although the plot is right from "Zorro" with a bit of "Robin Hood" and "The Scarlet Pimpernel" thrown in.

This is an excellent addition to Deveraux's Montgomery saga, possibly the best of that series. Lots of action and humorous situations as Alex Montgomery fights British tyranny. His life and the reprisals of the mysterious Raider are complicated by his childhood nemesis: Jessica Taggert.

As with all of Deveraux's story, Jessica is not the demure maiden and her "scandalous" behavior (read non-traditional) gets her and, somehow, Alex Montgomery in one situation after another.

A true swashbuckler!
