Summary: Hooked from the beginning!
Review: As soon as I started reading this novel, I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book...frequently uses British slang, though.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Didn't make it through...
Review: I started to read this book thinking it was entertaining enough but the writing was just too basic, story line unimaginitive for me to commit to.
Other books in this category that at least deliver on good writing are worth my reading time.

Summary: Loved it! She is now on my 'must buy' list.
Review: I stopped into our local Borders on my lunch break, started reading this, and was hooked right away. Bought the book and read it in one sitting. Love her writing style, it's very real, yet funny, with great descriptions and a way of telling the story that pulls you right in. It's the kind of book you just want to put the radio on, and curl up under a cozy blanket with.

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of a coincidence at the end that was just ridiculous, and could have been handled in a far more believeable way. She redeemed herself though, and I can't wait to read more by this author.

Summary: VERY INSIGHTFUL...
Review: On the surface, "Calling Romeo," by Alexandra Potter appears to be your typical, good, British "chick lit." Until the end. At that point, Potter ties everything together and offers the reader some very profound insights.

Juliet has an advertising career that has potential, a great best friend, and a live-in boyfriend, whom she loves and feels comfortable with. Her life begins to change, however, when a handsome and rich rivel in the advertising world wants to date her. She is not the type to be tempted, but she has ceased to feel special in the relationship that she is in. The decisions that she makes (and their consequences) make for an excellent novel.

The only problem that I encountered was with the frequent British words, which differed from American - as well as some of the British slang. ( I didn't have a CLUE what a "pac-a-mac" was until I looked it up on the web...) It would be great to have a "dictionary" of British terms that are used in the back.

I thought the title, "Calling Romeo" was so good when used in the context of the story. Very sweet. The cover design by Jaime Putorti was exceptionally great as well.

A reoccurring thought that I had while reading "Calling Romeo" was how often women are inclined to settle for less than they deserve. It was so refreshing to witness Alexander Potter's take on this as well.

I learned so much from this novel. I especially admire Alexandra Potter for sharing her own personal history at the end of this book. It took guts.

Summary: A great escape!
Review: The refreshing thing about this story is that it starts where most romantic novels leave off... the two lovers have already managed to overcome obstacles and get together... so now what? If you've ever sat in a theater after a romantic comedy and wondered what happens next, when the two lovers have to make it in the REAL world of dirty laundry and cranky moods and unemployment, etc... this book will take you down that path. The path for our heroine is sometimes fraught with disappointment, difficult choices, mixed messeges and romantic complications, but it's fun going on that journey with her... and watching her make the same mistakes a lot of us in the real world do! Of course, her life is a bit more fabulous than the average gal, but that's the other part I liked about the book! I felt I got an inside peek into hip London life. I didn't want the story to end! If Juliet were a real person, I'd want her in my circle of friends, cause she'd always have the funniest observations, the best gossip and a sweet, understanding ear when the boyfriend situation gets to be a pain! Pick up this book, now that Sex and the City is off the air, it'll help ease the loss!

Summary: A very enjoyable read
Review: This is the third book by this author and I have read every one of them and they just get better every time. Her books are lighthearted, funny and very true to life. Her descriptions of the characters are vivid and endear themselves to you. If you have ever been in any of the situations, you can easily empathise. Am looking forward to reading the latest book DO YOU COME HERE OFTEN? which I understand is out in the UK next month so it will be first on my list when I visit in the summer!
