Rating: Summary: Good Read Review: I enjoyed the book. But I liked Men who Cry In The Dark much better. This book was about a gigolo. Malcolm was a high price gigolo. It was entertaining, but not very realistic. It focus too much on money and not on love.
Rating: Summary: Good Story Line Review: After looking at some of the other reviews, I must say, "People, its a story, a story meant to entertain, not to define our lives." I found the book to be captivating, although, I do feel it could have been expanded on a little more. The abrupt ending was VERY dissappointing. But none the less, this was a good story. And I must admit, I read this book in one day! Which summarizes that it was well worth it!
Rating: Summary: A good read Review: This book was really good with a lot of twists and turns. I think all of us have met at least one character in the book. Teddy was very, as they say, "cold blooded". After reading the book, would you be like Toni and put up with Malcom?
Rating: Summary: Consider the Redeeming Factors Review: The Maintenance Man is a book written by a Black man about a segment of Black men who are thirty-something, which I found to be pretty engrossing: to get a male's perspective on male/female relationships. Michael pulls no punches. Uncensored! Another redeeming quality is that Malcom and Toni never physically consummated their relationship in the book, very refreshing since sex permiated the pages. Moreover, we see a refreshing look at spiritual fatherhood between Melvin and Malcom. Lastly, I went into the book looking for a light, entertaining read. That's what I got from this work of resonating fiction, yet a lively taste of classic '70s & '80s soul music and the imagery of my hometown West L.A. I felt like I was driving down PCH Blvd.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly entertaining Review: Your writting style makes me feel like i'm right there with the characters. This book will be an excellant PLAY. I hope..I hope..
Rating: Summary: A Good Page Turner Review: Michael Baisden does it again! . It is nice to read a great novel by a man. Mr. Baisden has a talent for writing about the thirty something (a little older and a little younger) group in a style that it so real - u think he is talking about your friends. The characters are real to you and the plot is interesting.
Rating: Summary: May, May,May Review: I loved this book.. I have never readed a book in two days, I just couldn't put this book down. I liked the characters in the book and to read about black men also dealing with the issues. We as woman deal with is a comfront in itself. This was the first book that I have read by Michael. But I am look to getting the others and hopefully they will keep me interested in them as well.. Maybe some men my be upset about this book as far as the green-eyed devil will appear and take some of there game away. The perfect book for an active mind.
Rating: Summary: Potential Wasted Review: What was most lacking in this latest book by Mr. Baisden was simply a good story to tell...or, at least, enough of a story to tell. Skimming the surface of what could of been really meaty, Malcolm's dreams of becoming a jazz musician were barely touched upon and explored and Simon and Cynthia's issues were resolved too easily. This causes the characters over all to fall into stereotypes. The playa who wants to reform, the good black man who can't see the forest for the trees, and the Dog who of course suffers predictably in the end. The story of a high class Black Male Gigolo was a good idea not given enough weight.
Rating: Summary: When I write the dissertation, come to my defense! Review: I must say like everyone else...I read this book in 6 hours! Once you get started reading a book by Michael, you just can't stop. As a Black male, I'm glad to see a brother who writes using mainly male characters (in a positive light...Men Cry). However, The Maintainence Man, I must say, touched on some stuff I would have never thought would come out in fiction for a while. I'm glad it came out and maybe it will make some people think (especially married people). Once again, Mike, keep up the good work and like I said, I'll be looking you up when I write my dissertation (or my novel) whichever comes first.
Rating: Summary: ssss...HOT ! Review: I decided to purchase this book after reading just a few of the many positive comments made about this book. I think this book is an excellent work of FICTION ! There are alot of people hatin' on this book but people it simply that, FICTION! Michael, keep up the good work. The Maintenance Man is excellent. Well worth the $22.95+tax !
