Summary: superficial
Review: I must admit that I'm more into jeans(non designer), t shirts and sneakers than the threads described in this book. I also view cars mostly as transportation rather than status symbols. I also view woman as potential friends and/ or lovers rather than sex objects or drapery. Therefore, I may be a little biased against this book. I found it to be superficial in the extreme. The characters for the most part had as much debth as tissue paper. The main reason I finished it was to see what was the point of it all. The portrayal of black males was highly offensive. Obviously the author has bought into the image of the big black buck, albeit well dressed. Honestly, how many men do you know that are 6ft 5? With guys like these black women will sufficate while 'waiting to exhale'. The women were all 'hutchie mamas' who dressed mainly to show all their body parts and sought to define themselves by their sexuality. The last few chapters finally got down to business in showing the human feeling aspects of the characters, but it took too long to happen. All in all, this book bore a strong resemblance to the 'black exploitations films of the '70s. I thought we had gone beyond that.

Review: The Maintenance Man was very deep, I didn't want to put it down, I was very impressed with each character, the good, the bad and the ugly. The book was definitely an eye-opener. I look forward to more books by Mr. Baisden. Keep up the good work!!!!

Summary: The Maintenance Man
Review: What a refreshing read for me! After being soooo disappointed by the first novel of another African American male, I breezed through this novel, and I don't consider myself an actual reader. Mr. Baisden's novel is the pick of the month for my bookclub and everyone is very excited to discuss the juice, dirt, and the so-very-accurate views on relationships. Keep up the good work. I have lots of catching up to do with your other titles. I look forward to each and every one of them. By the way, I most enjoyed the male-male relationship storylines. I will recommend this to males and females alike. Thanks.

Summary: DYN-O-MITE!!
Review: This book was FANTASIC! Michael Baisden has an amazing nack for telling a great story. After reading "Men Cry In the Dark," I couldn't wait to get my hands on his next book - I was not disappointed! The characters are easy to relate to. I found myself rooting for Ariel to hurry-up and find Mr. Right, for Malcolm to hurry-up and find a new job, for Teddy Bear to hurry-up and get busted and wanting to slap Cynthia for not knowing what a great man she had in Simon. Terrific book - can't say enough about it - A MUST READ!

Summary: A definite Read!
Review: This book was definitely a page turner. I completed the book in one weekend. I enjoyed the contemporary writing style and I could relate to the characters. The book was a little predictable but it was a great book to read. I am on the next one.

Summary: A quick, entertaining read
Review: I read the first 6 chapters at the book store! Michael Baisden does it again as he gives us an entertaining look into the male psyche. He shows that brothers are not always 1 dimensional. Malcolm who appears to be a very shallow brother who is all about the money, turns out to be a deep brother, who is multi-talented and desires a real relationship. Simon is a good brother who is just taking care of business and gets side-tracked like many brothers who are trying to make things happen. He loved his woman deeply, and in my opinion she could have been a little more understanding and patient. Aeriel is a likeable character, and I appreciate the relationship that she and Simon shared. They could have taken it there, but they didn't. This is an enjoyable book and its easy reading. I've read all Michael Baisden's books, and though it isn't his best, I still enjoyed it. I've read a few other reviews and I never knock anyone else's opinion, but one reader really irked me. If you didn't like the book, fine. But to say that anyone who gave this book more than 2 stars is uneducated is not a fair thing to say. Reading and experiencing literature in your own way is a very personal thing. And just because a person interprets a literary work differently than someone else, doesn't make it wrong, it just makes it a different interpretation. Thanks Mr. Baisden for another great read.

Summary: Superb
Review: This book is a must read! Michael's vivid descriptions of the characters and scenes are commendable. The main characters Malcolm and Simon are best friends even though their views differed on many issues.

The supporting characters (Teddy, Ariel, Melvin, and Toni) were also very interesting.

A movie depicting this well written book is a must.
