Summary: This book will keep you prisoner until you finish it.
Review: If you like historical romance with a twist of darkness, this is the book to read. The author brought every one of the significant characters to full bloom. Her characters personalities unraveled more and more as I read on. I felt the joy and disappointment of Rowena, the confusion in Sir Gareth, the weakness of Lindsey, the courage of Little Freddie. I felt each emotion as I read the lines. This book made me miss my stop on the subway while going to work one morning. Now that's a sign of a great book...trust me. Kudos to Theresa Medeiros...keep up the great work.

Summary: What a Incredible and Moving Story...
Review: Medeiros is at the top of her line with this book. Rowena and Gareth are written with such feeling and insight along with a story with so many twists and turns that the reader will be in the dark till the very end.
Gareth is such a dark soul but with such underlying feeling for Rowena due to a big secret that explains his tru feelings to Rowena. Some may feel Gareth borders on obsession but everything is explained perfectly. Rowena is unlike any heroine you will ever read in fiction. Her innocence and tender love is practically the opposite of her hero and absolutely vital to the story.
Medeiros has a way with words and is an expert when dealing with the Middle Ages. There are also many secondary charcters that round out the story.
In the beginning the reader maybe turned off by how Gareth steals Rowena due to winning a bet with her father and Gareth wants payment...meaning Rowena for his own means.
There are secrets galore among the passion between Gareth and Rowena. The love scenes sizzle and are moving.
This is truly a classic for this author and a must for any fan of Medeiros or any romance reader.

Summary: A delightful and moving read!
Review: SHADOWS AND LACE is a real charmer, filled with all the humor and delightful plot twists Medeiros fans have come to expect. Rowena teaches the brooding Sir Gareth to love again, winning his heart with her innocence and charm. This book made me laugh and cry and cheer when the characters were rewarded with the happy ending they deserved. Another winner from Medeiros

Summary: Loved It!
Review: Shame on my friend who got me hooked on Ms. Medeiros' novels. I truly enjoyed this one from start to finish. It had a lot of humor and mystery and of course the obligatory brooding handsome hero. Our heroine is feisty as well. This is a good, fun read. I can't imagine anyone who loves romance books not enjoying this one.

Summary: Really good
Review: She did a really good job; you can't go wrong when you buy one of her books. My 2 faves by her are Charming the Prince and A Whisper of Roses.

Summary: disappointing!
Review: She really writes wonderfully but, she lost me with this novel. The plot is fine and the main characters are well but too much plot twisters that you become dizzy reading it. Simplicity was needed for this story not twists and turns. It's nothing like "The Beauty and the Beast", now that book is a page turner!

Summary: This is the one that got me hooked!
Review: Since I first picked it up 3 years ago, I've read it FOUR times. I simply couldn't get enough of the dark hero, Gareth and his feisty gambling win, Rowena. His dark past and her hope for the future ensnare the reader into a tangling web of mystery and passion. Medeiros outdid herself on this one. She writes her characters with such vivid imagination and eloquence, you feel as if you're really there - Rowena herself. Don't mistake it. Medeiros is the best writer of romantic fiction of this historical period!

Summary: a magical Medeiros medieval tale!
Review: Teresa Medeiros has written books about every period in Hstorical Romance from Westerns to Regency to Faerytales. But one of my favorites is Shadows and Lace. Sorry, a well-written Medieval tale always captures my imagination. I read this book when it first came out, and just re-read it again, and found I was as thrilled the second time around. Maybe more so since you see so few TRUE Historical Romance currently being done. If you are hungry for a strong Medieval tale don't hesitate to snatch this one up. It will make a Medeiros fan out of you if you aren't already.

Nearly twenty years ago, a teenage Gareth of Caerleon held his two-year-old stepsister and felt protective of the child. But that same night, he learned his father had been killed in Wales fighting for Longshanks, his stepmother was murdered and that blue-eyed babe went missing. Since then, Gareth has been tainted with tales of murdering his step-mother in a jealous rage after catching her with her lover and disposed of that child.

Rowanne has lived in poverty as her father wasted money are little provided for her all her brothers. Baron Lindsay Fordyce returns home and explains he had lost one of his children to Gareth for the term of one year. The whole family, including Rowanne, are shocked with Gareth chooses her. Gareth takes her home to Caerleon, and it's soon evident the dark knight is using Rowanne to provoke her father into action, but little does Rowanne understand the full extent of Gareth's designs upon her.

Revealing any more of the plot would spoil the wonderful tale. Medeiros has a good sense of historical detail, the dynamics of characters tortured by their past, and blends all her magical touches to give you a novel that will linger long after that last page it turned. One of the best Medieval Historicals written.

Summary: Repetative!
Review: The book is beautifully written and the characters are seemingly beautiful but the herione Rowena is a moron.
She commits the same mistake over and over again. You think that after running twice and being caught by Sir Gareth she would try something different for a change.
For a main character, she definitely needs more work or brains... Even the supporting characters seem to have more life.

Get the book for the other characters and or (if you don't have it already), purchase "Heather and Velvet" (same Author) instead.
