Rating: Summary: 3 1/2 stars Review: This book really made me think about its rating so I gave it 3 1/2 stars based on the story. On one hand the story was excellent but on the other hand it didn't really keep me that interested and I can't even explain why. It should have kept me engrossed. Don't get me wrong this was a very good book, however, I think it just wasn't my "cup of tea." It was too smooth; I didn't feel any emotions (hate, anger, love, etc.) while reading it. Sorry.
Rating: Summary: A VERY GOOD BOOK Review: THIS IS THE STORY OF ADDIS de VALENCE AND MOIRA FALKNER. IT IS REFRESHING TO SEE THAT EVEN THOUGH ADDIS HAS BEEN BETRAYED ALOT, EVEN TAKEN AS A SLAVE AND HIS BODY SCARRED, THAT HE TRULY LOVES AND TRUSTS MOIRA. SHE IS HIS PEACE AND SALVATION. SHE HAS BEEN IN LOVE WITH HIM FROM AFAR FOR MOST OF HER LIFE. AS HIS BONDWOMAN SHE KNOWS THAT SHE CAN NEVER TRULY HAVE HIM FOREVER, BUT ADDIS IS DETERMINED THAT SHE WILL BE HIS FOREVER, NO MATTER WHAT!!! THIS WAS A VERY GOOD BOOK, BUT I WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED IN THE ENDING. I FELT THAT MOIRA REALLY FELT THAT IT WOULDN'T WORK BETWEEN THEM IN THE END ,BUT JUST COULD NOT WALK AWAY. FOR A VERY STRONG CHARACTER THROUGHOUT THE BOOK, I FELT LIKE SHE JUST WENT THROUGH THE MOTIONS SO TO SPEAK.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Story/Wonderful Characters! Review: This is the story of two very lonely people finding happiness and love together. They are from different social classes and and much of the novel focuses on the implications of that difference. Madeline Hunter is an excellent writer and able to bring the time period alive in her books. She realistically portrays the relationship in medieval times. Moira is a wonderful heroine unwilling to sacrifice her beliefs. If you like medieval romances or poignant stories, I strongly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Oh My Gosh!!! I Just LOVED Addis Review: This story will captivate you from page one! There was much intrigue and danger, and the love between Addis and Moira was heartbreakingly beautiful.
I liked when Rhys (from BY DESIGN)visited Moira in the kitchen. Addis was quite jealous, yet when Addis realized later that Rhys had to have touched Moira intimately (in order for her to have concluded whom she really loved), he didn't go crazy as I thought he would.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful New Writer Review: This was a wonderful, deeply involving book. I can't wait to read more by this author. I love medieval romances, but this one is a cut above many of those I have read. Outstanding characters and development of those characters. Thanks, Ms. Hunter
Rating: Summary: Simply the Best Review: What can I not say about this book! Beautiful love story with compelling characters. I have read it 3 times already! Read it's sequel too! By Design!
Rating: Summary: A love that knows no bounds Review: When Addis de Valence returned to England from years of slavery, it was to find his birthright usurped and his son being cared for by his late wife's friend. Moira is a bondwoman who claims Claire's father gave her and her mother their freedom prior to his death. Drawn to Moira for her generous heart and the link she represents to the past, Addis refuses to accept her claim for liberty. Initially Moira decides to let Addis have his way for the sake of his son, whom she raised as her own. When it becomes clear, however, that Addis will never let her go, Moira must decide whether she should yield to the love she bears him or hold onto her pride which demands her freedom. Madeline Hunter has written an emotionally powerful story about a man who returns home to find all is not as it should be. His one ray of hope is Moira whose love has helped him more than he knows. Addis is determined to reclaim his place as the lord of Barrowburgh and Moira is willing to help. She knows, however, that she will pay a heavy price for the love she bears him, but she refuses to let history repeat itself by serving as Addis's leman no matter how great his need for her. Moira is perhaps the strongest part of this story because she is forced to endure so much. And yet, she is never a victim. All she does for Addis to help him is done in the hopes that she will eventually realize her own freedom though her heart will always be tied to Addis through the years they shared as children. Hunter also successfully integrates a plot of political intrigue as a means for Addis to reclaim his title. In addition, Addis proves to be a hero in the end. When he first appears, though he understands Moira's plight, he refuses to sympathize. But as his attraction for her deepens into love, he belatedly comes to relate to her feelings on the issue of individual freedom. This is a wonderful story filled again with rich, historical detail and the flavor of this period really stands out through Hunter's incredible use of perspective.
