Rating: Summary: A "couldn't put it down" Book ! Review: From other reviews this is an either "really liked it" or a "could do better" book- but I REALLY LIKED IT. Addis de Valence was thought to have been dead but returns from the Crusades to take up his rightful place as Lord of his birthplace of which his step-brother has taken over. Addis also wants to reclaim his position as father to a son that he hasn't seen since an infant. The son was put in the hands of a bondswoman- hidden away from powerful hands that wanted to destroy the boy, and still does when they discover the boy is still alive. The bondswoman- Moira Falkner, was given her freedom by Addis' dying father but continued to work at the castle. Addis is attracted to Moira doesn't realize there is a connection but them. All he knows is that he wants her there for him and refuses to recognize her freedom but demands that she move back into the castle. But there is a connection- a very strong one. The electricity between Addis and Moira is powerful. Addis can't marry Moira because of her status in life but Moira will not be his mistress. The story will keep you turning pages. It is a good romance and I feel the story won't disappoint you.

Rating: Summary: A gem!! Review: I bought this title not knowing what to expect, given that the author is new and that I've had my share of disappointments in the romance genre. The brief book's description wasn't exactly appealing either... None the less, I'm always willing to give a new author a chance... and I'll never regret it in this case!! "By Possession" is simply FANTASTIC. Believable characters, a plot that transports the reader to the Middle Ages, a story one just CAN'T put down. My congratulations to Madeline Hunter for a BEAUTIFUL love story that made me actually FEEL with the characters. This book is no doubt a KEEPER. "By Possession" was the first book by this author that I read, and most certainly I'll be reading the other two, "By Arrangement" and "By Design". I can't wait for them!!
Rating: Summary: It's A Matter of Opinion, but... Review: I can't imagine anyone not liking this book and especially the characters, Addis and Moira. Every line of dialogue was great, and not always expected. The love scenes were unique, I think, and yes, there was even dialogue that makes you cringe, like, "I will take you..." and other silliness, but Addis was one of the best heros out there. I really loved this book.
Rating: Summary: Addis is perfection indeed, despite scars Review: I don't know why M.H. felt compelled to make Addis's facial scar THAT awful, but this is one of the best love stories you'll ever read.
Rating: Summary: A terrific story! Review: I don't like romance books that are set in the middle ages. However, all the great reviews this book got made me curious. So I bought it and it sat on my bookshelf for a while before I picked it up, and then I couldn't put it down! It is one of the best romances I've ever read! Since all the other reviews have dealt with the story I'll just say this: If you love romance GET THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: A Feminist's Nightmare Review: I found this book to be rather droll and slow-paced. Moira is a serf who is given her freedom on her lord's deathbed; (Moira's mother was his mistress.) Addis, a knight captured during the Crusades and held prisoner for several years, apparently a sex slave to a pagan priestess, returns home after his father's death in search of his son, with whom Moira has been entrusted. The boy is whisked away for his "protection" early on and seldom mentioned again. Meanwhile, Addis is apparently obsessed with Moira and refuses to acknowledge his father's wish of releasing her from her obligations as a serf. Moira attempts several escapes only to find herself in danger and rescued/captured by Addis. The two share an unrequited love, as both know Addis can never marry the lowly-born Moira. This novel lacks an interesting plot and doesn't give the reader any reason to believe Addis and Moira are destined for one another, other than the boorish "ownership" Addis holds over Moira's head. In short, I'd skip this forgettable novel.
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT... Review: I have no words to describe how much I loved this novel. I have already read it 3 times in 3 some months. The prowess with which Madeline describes the depths of characters, the historical backdrop, and the pace and direction in which the story develops is simply excellent. I have not read any other book, except By Arrangement from Madeline Hunter herself, that comes close to my liking as this book. I wish to own this book (all three times I've read it so far, I borrowed it from public library). In fact, I accidentally picked up By Possession just out of boredom. And I am so glad I did...
I loved Addis and Moira, both. Sounds crazy but I wish and pray to be born in 14th century as Addis's Moira :)...
Rating: Summary: Hunter's Best Review: I like Hunter's writing style and her ability to create unique charcters and make you feel that you are experiencing a differnet time period without getting too heavy handed with history lessons. I enjoyed the Protector and Lord of a Thousand Nights. By Arrangement was a bit slow-moving and low on action for me. By Possession is the hands down winner for me. A beautiful, gradually enfolding love story, with lots of sizzling passion. This is a true winner.
