Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Could NOT put it down! Review: After I read A Knight's Vow, I had to find another novel writted by Patricia Potter. Her story stood out from the rest. The Black Knave certainly did not disappoint. I received it in the mail one afternoon and finished it by the next morning. I simply could NOT put it down! The characters are so strong, developed and intriguing. I felt for them, wanted to help them, and felt as though they were a part of my life, as cheese as that sounds. I was very impressed with this, the turns and twists remind my of The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Emunska Orszy( one of my ALL TIME favorite books, e-mail me with comments on either novel) but it's different setting and slight change in purpose and setting helped to make this novel stand apart from the others that I've read. I recommend this to everyone. And if anyone knows of a novel close to this premise, e-mail me and I will be eternally grateful! I read this one so fast, I'm already in desperate need to read another! :)

Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: It was good.. Review: but not GREAT! For some reason Rory & Bethia did not ring emotionally true - like it was difficult to connect with their emotions and really believe in them. With most good books, I really identify and champion the characters and for some reason this book didn't breath life into the characters. It was a good story and suspenseful story, but in my opinion there are many books I've enjoyed much more.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A Very Rewarding Error Review: By accident I picked-up this novel, and I ended up being so glad that I did. I have now added Ms. Potter to my list of favorite authors. Ms. Potter weaves an intricate tale showing the difficulty of upholding love, honor, and courage during a time of war, she displays the effects of trying times in a post-war era, and of unexpected love. She shows that love, honor and courage come in all different shapes and sizes and that some of the worlds most beautiful people and things are concealed in the least likely wrappers. Truly a wonderful tale that will tug at the heart strings.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Enthralling Review: His father and his older brother thought he was a wastrel. His father openly hated him for walking away from the wholesale slaughter of innocent women and children at Culloden. However, not long afterward his brother trips and dies on his own blade and a low lying tree branch kills his father. Rory Forbes becomes the Marquis of Braemoor, a position he does not want. Cumberland forces Bethia MacDonnell to marry Rory, who she feels is pathetic. He dresses like a wimp and she heard he cowardly fled the battlefield even if he fought for her enemy. She needs the help of the brave Black Knave to rescue her brother held hostage by Cumberland. The Black Knave has saved numerous Jacobites from the wrath of the victors sending them to safety in France. As Rory and Bethia find reasons to distrust and loathe one another, they still fall in love. However, she needs a champion not a loser like Rory, even if at times he seems so heroic. THE BLACK KNAVE is a retelling of the classic Scarlet Pimpernel that makes Patricia Potter either a raving lunatic or an intrepid, confident author. After reading the historical romance, readers will realize that the awesome author pulls off a coup as she freshens up both the Pimpernel premise and the overwritten post-Culloden novel. Rory and Bethia are a wonderful couple who fall in love amidst the ruins of war and its aftermath. The story line is action packed and never allows the reader to sit back as Ms. Potter provides her audience with a thriller. Harriet Klausner
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: The Black Knight ! Review: I really enjoyed this story. The main character is so caught up in her hatred for all that is against her beliefs that it takes her a while to see what is right in front of her face. I really enjoyed when she got off on her own adventure and what the outcome of that was. It lets you see some of other feelings that happen when one feels they must go along but, don't truely support what is happening in the aftermaths of war. It also is a great romantic story!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding, but author seems timid about love scenes... Review: I thought this book was simply outstanding; I loved Rory, even as the 'marquis' and I thought Bethia was a wonderful character, well suited to Rory because both were smart and unselfish.
However, as much as I adore this author's work, her love scenes are lacking, as if she is uncomfortable even writing them, which is understandable, but it's really obvious.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great book! Review: I wish reviewers would have the courage to sign their full names, especially when they feel free to attack a novel via sarcasm and mean-spirited critique. Please remember that everyone's tastes are different and your opinion is simply that--only your opinion.
