Summary: Disappointing
Review: As an avid fan of Madeline Hunter, I waited anxiously for the arrival of "The Seducer". I was very disappointed with the book. Although the book had its bright moments, it was a chore to complete it. Both the hero and heroine were insipid and the plot was painfully predictable. The multiple points-of-view amongst numerous characters distracted from the story. At times the story was too busy, at others, too dull to continue.

Summary: Complex and Satisfying!
Review: As I have come to expect from the novels of Madeline Hunter, this one has an interesting story line, multi-dimensional characters and lots of historical detail. In this novel, she has moved from the medieval period to the regency. Daniel St. John is somewhat similar, though less complex and intriguing than the hero of her first novel, David de Abindgon. The heroine in this one, Diane, is also somewhat less complex than other of Hunter's heroines; nevertheless she is much more richly drawn than the heroines of most of the other popular romance writers. I do not see why other reviewers have been bored by this book, although I agree it is not Madeline Hunter's best effort.

Summary: The Seducer
Review: Daniel St. John was nearly perfect, but he was a difficult man to get to know at first. But he revealed much about himself all those times he gazed out the window. Diane was a fine character but it was a bit disturbing that at age twenty she was dressed like a young teen, no matter the reason. I don't feel that we got to know her very well, though. She didn't seem like she had much going for her, and she was definitely ignorant about real life. In fact, the only time she showed competence was while she was fishing. (...)

Summary: The Seducer - Yowser!
Review: I am so happy I discovered a "new" writing talent! I had reduced myself to just 5 authors, but Madeline Hunter increased it to 6 by this book (and "By Arrangement").
"The Seducer" was marvelously plotted, (how much research did the author have to go thru for that!) intricately arranged so that I stayed up all night to finish it! The romance between Daniel and Diane was so urgent, so tender, so sensual that one could not put it down! It continues into the rest of this series. Don't miss it. Wonderful book! Marvelous author!

Summary: I tried and tried but.......
Review: I couldn't even finish the book. There's no spark between the h/h and the mysterious plot just isn't holding my attention. Frankly, I don't care to find out how it ends. It's not typical Madeline Hunter. Try her earlier stuff. You won't be disappointed with those.

Summary: First book from Hunter I've read and I'm impressed.
Review: I don't know how so many reviewers rated this book so poorly, when I saw that the average customer review was 3 stars I couldn't believe it. This novel is actually very good. I read a lot of regency romance novels and have come across some really bad ones, so I recognize quality when I see it, and this is definitively it.

The plot had everything; an interesting mystery (one that you actually couldn't guess from the start), intense emotions, appealing characters, and lots of sensuality. What more can you ask for? This is the whole package!

I only came across one mistake. The form of address of the villain. I he is the second son of a Marquess, he would be "Lord Name-Lastname" not "Mr. Lastname". But this is a very small mistake, and in no way affects the enjoyment of this book.

I found the book very entertaining, and would recommend it to everybody. I'm already reading "The Saint" and so far, I'm enjoying it too. If it continues this way this author will go to the list of my favorites.

I only have one complain. Apparently the series will end with "The Sinner" Dante's story, and I think there are lots of interesting secondary characters in this novel that deserve their own book. Like Penelope and Mr.Hampton. I sensed something there, in the way he stood up for her. Maybe her despicable husband can die, so that they can have their story? Please don't end this series with Dante's story!

Summary: Some Things Didn't Add Up...
Review: I enjoyed this book, although it did seem to go on forever without any real fireworks going off. There was nothing wrong with Daniel St. John, he was the usual wonderful hero, although a bit too bossy, but I think I stuck with this book as long as I did in deference to the author, as I like her books very much. I found it totally believable that Diane would be naive about men given her circumstances, but she really did seem a bit - not stupid - just not up to speed on life. This story was dated 1818, so when Diane meets Vergil Duclairc on a few occasions, reference is made to Vergil's attraction to an opera singer. Huh? Isn't that supposed to be HIS story? In 1823? (THE SAINT)

Summary: An enjoyable read
Review: I have enjoyed all the books that I read by Ms. Hunter in the past and this book is no different. The story starts off rather quickly and keeps good pace through most of the plot which is a great thing. I found Diane to be a likely heroin, although I did not think the way she put up with Daniel was a great addition to the plot. I enjoyed Jeanette, Daniel's sister I found that I really wanted her to get the justice she so deseperately wanted in the face of what happened to her. I felt that she was one of the best development and most likeable of all the people in the story. I have mixed feelings about some of the plot though, I did not like the fact that Daniel St. John was keeping this big secret form Diane and when she found out about it she was only mad for a short period of the book(I will not give away the secret, read the book yourself). I enjoyed all the other aspects of The Seducer, the usual bad guy was really bad and from the first few pages of the book on you can feel the attration between Daniel and Diane as though you are there with them throughout the story. Since you are introduced to the heroes of the next three books in this first one, you almost can not wait to see how the other three fare in the face of love.
