Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: This is a standard-issue Red Dress Ink book--except for the fact that the herione is completely unlikeable. Why read about a whiny, dense, selfish, psychologically unstable twentysomething with no work ethic or sense of responsibility? One wonders what her man sees in her.Skip this one and pick up something by Isabel Wolff.
Rating: Summary: I loved this one!!! Review: This is a wonderful and funny tale of an obsessed and hilarious character who has a unique view of the world. I think I laughed out loud more during this one than I have in a while. And there were quite a few unforgetable scenes I just loved (like the Vera Wang sale). The thing about "Slim Chance" is that on the surface it seems like stereotypical chick lit, but it's actually a highly original novel, mainly because of the great words and thoughts of main character Evelyn. This book was way worth reading, and I can't wait for the sequel, or at least another one by Rose. I also think this tale would be great as a movie. Note to Red Dress INk: keep 'em coming!
Rating: Summary: Hysterical! Review: This is definately a notch in the "good books" column that Red Dress Ink has published. The main character, Evie, is hysterical- a cynical, obsessive, selfish girl with an entitlement complex, she is easier to relate to than most other Chick-Lit heroines. She can be obnoxious, but we can all identify with her. It's hard to hate her because she is smart and funny while being a total pill, and Rose's whip-smart dialogue makes this book a stand-out. Fans of the better writers in the Chick-Lit genre like Sophie Kinsella and Sarah Mlynowski will love this adventure. The story centers on Evie, who gets engaged to her long-time college boyfriend. The engagement and single-minded obsession with fitting into a perfect Vera Wang gown that follows takes over Evie's life, endangering her job, health and relationship. Obviously we all learn from Evie's mistakes, but it is a fun novel and somehow manages to totally avoid being even a little bit depressing. Add in some loveable (and deliciously hateable) supporting characters and you have a winning novel!

Rating: Summary: Entertaining but depressing Review: When I read the description of the book, I was excited because I identified with the plot- like the main character Evelyn Mays, I am planning my wedding, and like her, I'd like to lose a few lbs. But in this novel, she became extremely obsessed and addicted to losing weight at the point that she selfishly overlooked her fiance's feelings, along with many others who were trying to support her. Instead of seeing this, she stubbornly went upon her own narrow opinions of what she thought was going on. I was a little disappointed with the outcome of the book, with the characters. At first I found myself identifying with her, then disgusted at some of her actions. The book is well written and enjoyable, to a point. I would have liked to see this character have more ambition in her professional life , where she was putting all of it into one single goal. She acted very immaturely at times. This book could have been so much better than it was.
Rating: Summary: Don't miss this one! Review: While my faith in Red Dress Ink led me to be optimistic when buying this one, I never could have imagined I'd be so pleased. I was immediately sucked into this well-written and witty take on the life of Rose's anything-but-typical protagonist, Evie. "Slim Chance" touches many issues, some of which are somewhat serious, and I even found myself with a lump in my throat a few times. But in the end it's the sophisticated sarcastic humor that makes this tale succeed (the hilarious dialogue and one-liners in particular are extremely addictive). "Slim Chance" is an excellent novel by a first-time writer that keeps the reader wanting more. It is "chicklitty" enough for dedicated chicklit fans, yet unique enough to satisfy those of us who look for something special and different in a story. This is without doubt one of the best Red Dress Ink books to date, and I can't wait for the next one by Jackie Rose(let's hope).
