Summary: A refreshingly honest and fun debut novel
Review: I am deeply impressed with Jackie Rose's debut novel "Slim Chance". The main heroine, Evelyn Mays, has just been proposed to by her boyfriend, and although she says "yes", her life is suddenly thrown into a confusing chaotic mess. Evelyn decides she wants to be a glamorous, perfect size 8 bride, and joins a gym. However, nothing seems to go right for her. She spends too much money, flirts with her personal trainer, and grows more and more distant from her fiance. Not only that but she just can't seem to find the strength to hold onto her fast-sinking job.

Jackie Rose did a great job of introducing a totally believable character in Evelyn. Evelyn is so perfectly imperfect and disorganized that the reader will just love her and be able to empathize greatly with her! One will be unable to put this book down. This is definitely one of the best Red Dress Ink books out there.

Summary: So good!
Review: I positively devoured this book! Main gal, Evie Mays, simply spoke to me. Everything from her unyielding wedding aspirations, to her reckless relationship with food, to her rash ways with men --I swear author Jackie Rose read my diary! This book was familiar and enlightening at the same time, which made for a totally therapeutic experience. Slim Chance is for the 'bridezilla', yo-yo dieter, and whimsical risk taker in us all... Highly enjoyable.

Summary: Pretty Good Summer Read
Review: I really liked most of the book, I picked it up with out any great expectations. I got into it, and couldn't put it down, but found myself disappointed at the end. Not a must read, but you definitely wouldn't be wasting your time either.

Summary: Quite entertaining!
Review: Jackie Rose's "Slim Chance" deals with Evie who was recently engaged after her boyfriend, Bruce proposed to her at work. Her immediate task was to find herself a dress for her wedding. With her best friend Morgan, she found a Vera Wang dress at a huge discount. The catch is that the dress is a size eight and Evie is a size twelve. Determined to wear the dress, Evie soon joined a fitness club, and she has her personal trainer, a gorgeous hunk named Jade. Soon, Evie was working out nearly every day and starving herself. Evie became literally obsessed with losing weight and soon neglected Bruce and everything else that matters.

I like "Slim Chance" as it touches an important issue that haunts brides to be and women in general - weight loss. Jackie Rose's story is not an exaggeration as some women do go through what Evie did. In addition, the story flows well and there are definitely funny moments. Evie is not your typical likeable chick-lit heroine. In fact, she's the opposite. She's self-centered, obsessive, selfish and at times neurotic. But you can't help sympathizing with her especially since at the end, she realizes her mistake.

Summary: I Couldn`t Put It Down
Review: Reading is not something I get to do very often with a 7 month old around the house, but I couldn`t put this one down! Jackie Rose summed up every woman`s anxiety about losing a few pounds and saying goodbye to single life, and somehow made me laugh out loud along the way. Evie was the heroin you love to hate and vice versa. Didn`t you get to the end and just wish it kept going? Didn`t you want to know if Evie had learned from her ways? Did they get back together, did they remain good friends? Did she succeed in her career? And most importantly, how did her house renovations work out?! All of these questions left me thinking...this is one talented author : )

Summary: Slow at first, entertaining in the end, with some snags...
Review: This book really does not kick until well past the middle of the story. A lot of it is a description of family and relationship fights and the heroine's very, very shallow view of life and "ideals".

What is really bad is the fact that the editors didn't catch some "gems" as "cubic zirconiums" (Hello?!!!) and "Lamp chops" for dinner (interesting...). Or does the author want to show Evie's ignorance?

RDI books are generally entertaining if you want some fun light read, but too many of them are not well edited and that is a turnoff for me.

Summary: Funny and punchy
Review: This book was great! I found it to be a really easy read with lots of sharp funny dialogue. Throughout, the author was able to touch on the many funny and sometimes scary ways people deal with pre-wedding jitters and their obsessions with body image. The bride-to-be in the book is really something else. She's undoubtedly flawed, yet still hard not to love.

I love so many of the Red Dress Ink books, and this was no exception. I'm thrilled that they're now putting out even more titles than before. The more, the better!

Summary: Terrible & Annoying
Review: This book was so disappointing. The characters are annoying and unlovable, and the author isn't as funny as she thinks she is. She tries too hard to be witty and it just didn't work for me. After reading great "chick lit" books by Marian Keyes, Jane Green, Jennifer Weiner, and Sophie Kinsella, this was really a letdown. Their writing style is much more fun and flows more smoothly.

I understand that the main character, Evie, was irritable because of her dieting, but it was over the top and very annoying. Theo is a cliche, her best friend Morgan is just plain unlikeable, and everyone else is forgettable. The whole book is forgettable so I recommend you skip it and check out any of the books from the authors mentioned above.

Summary: Terrible
Review: This is a standard-issue Red Dress Ink book--except for the fact that the herione is completely unlikeable. Why read about a whiny, dense, selfish, psychologically unstable twentysomething with no work ethic or sense of responsibility? One wonders what her man sees in her.

Skip this one and pick up something by Isabel Wolff.
