Rating: Summary: Some Sick Stuff Review: I really like Johanna Lindsey's books in general but was horrified by the content of this S&M B&D rip off. I have never put a book in the trash but that is where I put Prisoner. The "hero" of the book tortures a pregnant woman... holds her captive in a dungeon, subjects her to humiliation and bondage then shows her no trust or love when he professes to have fallen in love with her. The darkest thing is she takes him back and forgives all under the guise of ... Oh it only means that he loves me.... Sounds like battered Women's Syndrome to me! This is a DONT READ. Try some of her other books like savage Thunder or Angel if you want a good read.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining... Review: Let's call a spade a spade here, folks. This is a bondage novel thinly disguised as a historical romance. So many of Lindsey's novels contain elements of bondage and discipline, why doesn't she just write an actual erotic novel and stop hiding behind the ruffles and cloud-castles of romance? I have a feeling that this author has a well-worn copy of The Story of O hidden somewhere by her bed.Okay, I will admit that some of the sex scenes are rather tasty. The characters are likeable in a strange sort of way. And the story itself is entertaining even if some parts seeem contrived. For instance, why couldn't our dear heroine just have opened her mouth and told him WHY she was doing what she was doing? She had plenty of opportunities... I also can't imagine these two lovers ever going back to "normal" lovemaking, I imagine them having permanent chains installed in their bedroom.Overall, this book was worth reading if you fantasize about being chained, ravished and kept as a slave in a faraway castle. If you don't, skip it. If you're unsure, borrow it from a friend.
Rating: Summary: One of her Best! Review: I have read all of Johanna's books, and this is definitely one of her best. I not only have read them all, but I also own them all, and I have read this one several times. In my opinion, she is one of the best writers today, and she certainly has surpassed all other historical writers. Her stories inspired me to start writing, and I can only hope that someday I am half as popular (or as good) as she is. I hope she continues to keep writing as long as I am able to keep reading. Don't let this book pass you by.
Rating: Summary: Linsey's best! Review: I've read all of Johanna Lindsey's books, and this is my favorite. The plot turns the usual romance formula on its head. Here, the heroine, Rowena Belleme, must seduce a very unwilling hero, Warrick deChaville. Later, Warrick vows to seek revenge, but despite his best plans, he cannot resist Rowena. One of my favorite things about this book is that Warrick is not a modern male lurking in medieval clothing. He's a medieval warrior - he's violent, he treats his daughters as nothing more than chattel and he considers women to be little more than sexual conveniences. Not that those are good things; it's just more realistic for the time period. It is a sign of Lindsey's talent as a writer that she is able to work within these limitations and still create an appealing romance.
Rating: Summary: Medieval Romance Review: Rowena's stepbrother Gilbert is savagely beating her mother. The only way he will stop is if Rowena agrees to marry a lechorous old man and gain his army. Fortunately, Rowena's decrepid husband dies before the marriage is consummated. But Gilbert is not ready to let go of this army. He hides the body and kidnaps a man for Rowena to use and conceive a child with. That man is unknowingly Gilbert's sworn enemy. While returning to his room at an inn, Warrick is viciously attacked. He wakes up to find himself chained to a bed as a lovely women tells him she must use him. During the night, Rowena clumsily visits Warrick while during the day she plots to set him free. Three days later, she helps him escape only to have him return with his army to capture her. He doesn't understand her motive and refuses to believe that she was not in full cooperation of her brother. Now she is his prisoner, a prisoner that he has come to desire.Warrick is not your typical Lindsey hero. He is twice a widower and has nearly grown daughters. His reputation is fierce and his past is haunted. He needs someone to bring light and laughter into his life. Rowena had a happy childhood, but when her mother remarried, both women suffered. Rowena fears Gilbert because he holds her mother's life in his hands, but she is a survivor and is determined to do what she must to right the wrong she did to Warrick. Individually these two have a troubled past, but Lindsey brings them together in love and laughter. A very nice story.
Rating: Summary: A MUST read!! Review: I liked this book because the fact that the man is "raped" by the woman was a new twist. I have never read any other romance where this occured. I got into this book immediately, and finished it much faster than I usually do. Everyone I have loaned it to just loved it.
Rating: Summary: Too violent! Review: I didn't enjoy this book. What attracted me to this book in the first place was the synopsis, so I decided to read it. I was so disappointed! There were too many violent and sexual scenes, but I forced myself to finish the book anyway. I prefer a story with more romance than violence and sex. I have to say that, overall, I like books by Johanna Lindsey. I suggest reading "Hearts Aflame" by Johanna Lindsey.
Rating: Summary: Very good Lindsey! Review: I know some objected to the beginning with what Rowena did to Warrick, but it was the times. All in all it's one of my favorite of her books. Lots of steamy love scenes. I recommend this read.
Rating: Summary: Great Romance Review: I love Romance novels and this Book is right up there with the Best. This is the first time I have felt compelled to write a review. JL's work is great and orginal. The Sex scenes sizzling. Great Book.
Rating: Summary: Not one of the best Review: There is not much romance in this book. It's all about sex. I was disapointed with this book. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind steamy sex scenes but I like for there to be a romantic plot going on also. Don't read this book unless you only want to read about sex.
