Rating: Summary: I can't put it down! Review: This is my first book from Iris Johansen and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I liked the twists of plot and the characters (including various supporting characters). It was also a little refreshing that it was not another case of one of them wrongly wronged the other person blah, blah, then everything was cleared up. And I look forward to read more of Iris Johansen's books!
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT STORY Review: This is the first book that I have read that really seem to go along with history with Queen Elizabethan times. What a history lesson, I think if we were taught history with the passion that the book was written I would have paid more attention to it in school. Iris Johansen is a great writer and I will be looking for her other historical romances.
Rating: Summary: YES, MAGNIFICENT Review: This is the fourth book I have read by Iris Johansen and I will not stop until I have read all of them. She has such a talent for creating strong characters. Her male characters are so inventive and have such creative imaginitive talents. As in all her books she has a second delightful male character in Gavin. I am still hoping for a sequel to Lion's Bride. Ms Johansen is beyond the beyond. She rates a ten for inventing such unusual story lines that not only keep me turning the pages but up half the night till I finish them. Please keep writing these unbelievably wonderful, different stories.
Rating: Summary: Incredible! Review: This story has it all..a wonderful Elizabethan setting, a handsome hero, a smart and sassy heroine, great supporting characters, of course the evil villain, action, death and an incredible plot twist. The romance is steamy and exhilarating! If you have never read Iris Johansen, read this book first!
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: Wow... what an excellent historical. IJ is really an interesting writer. This was a wonderful romance (love story) & also had a very involved plot. It kept moving, never allowing me to grow bored. I will have to say that it had a touch of gore that I don't care for & had to skim over - but not enough to ruin the book for me. It is set in the late 1500's when Elizabeth is on the throne in England & James is on the throne in Scotland. Of course anything to do with that time period revolves around potential plots to overthrow a throne or two - this story is no exception. However, IJ did it in a very different way. The love story was really an enjoyable one to me. The hero & heroine definitely had their differences to work out, but they didn't fight & hate each other all the way through the book like in so many of the stories from this timeframe. (Also, I would be very remiss to not mention that a couple of the love scenes are enough to make a person fan herself & glance around to make sure no one else is looking!) The heroine started out being a little too naive but she learned her lessons well & turned out to be such a wonderful lady. The hero was a very hard man, as all of them had to be in that time, but he was exceptional from beginning to end (& a lover to die for!) :) It's not your light reading type, but if you like a true love story with a very involved plot then don't miss this one!
