Summary: Wonderful (quick) read
Review:

I like the Nora Roberts formula of having the main characters start off on the wrong foot. In this case model Hillary is bad-mouthing magazine magnate Bret Bardoff to the handsome stranger that has wandered into her photographer's studio, realizing too late that it is the 'man from the mountain' (as she calls him). Throughout the book she tries to keep the relationship purely professional, even though she wants more and he does too. There are a few obstacles and they both fight the pull, but the ending is very romantic.

Find a comfy chair on a rainy day and get lost in this story.

Summary: Good Book
Review: Annotation: Hillary Baxter has become a top NY model after leaving her home town in Kansas three years ago. She left not in search of fame or glamour, but for a chance to be successful on her own. With her striking features and photogenic smile, modeling seemed to be the way to go. She gets a big job working for Brett Bardoff, the owner of a huge magazine. Brett is good looking, rich, confident, arrogant, and intimidating. Hillary a small-town girl is finding it hard to resist the charm of her new employer, who is leaving her defenseless. But as Brett discovers the innocence behind Hillary's world famous face, it will be Brett who is left defenseless.
This is a sweet, simple story about Hillary Baxter, a New York model with small-town values and Bret Bardoff, the magazine owner who hires her for a fashion photography project. I like the way Nora Roberts started the characters off on the wrong foot, it makes the story interesting from the beginning. In this case model Hillary is bad-mouthing magazine owner Bret Bardoff to the handsome stranger that has walked into her photographer's studio, realizing too late that the stranger is the famous Brett Bardoff. Throughout the book she tries to keep the relationship strictly professional, even though they both want more. There are a few obstacles and they both fight the pull, but the ending is very romantic.

How could she be expected to resist the devastating charm of her new employer, mesmerizing magazine mogul Bret Bardoff? Bret knew all the moves, all the right things to say to leave a woman defenseless. Summary: Ummm...
Review: I love Nora Roberts and this is a good story - but not one of my favorite ones.

The back cover reads: "She was a success. Hillary Baxter had been only twenty-one when she left rural Kansas to pursue a New York modeling career. When Bret Bardoff, owner and publisher of fashinable Mode Magazine, offered her a prestigious six-month contract, the sky was the limit. There was only one problem. Hillary fell in love with Brett. But he appeared to be interested only in her glamorous image. Could he learn to love the woman whose face had haunted him from the first instant he had seen her photograph?"

Summary: UGH
Review: OK, I love Nora Roberts - most of the time. Her romantic suspense novels usually have a great plot, characters that are human, but likeable, and are an easy read. But this book STUNK! The sappy female lead totally drove me to the psych ward. I couldn't even finish the book because it was obvious what was going to happen. Frankly, if the characters were likeable, I probably would have finished it. But they weren't. So the book is out the door.

Summary: Enjoyable Early Nora Roberts
Review: This is a sweet, simple story about Hillary Baxter, a New York model with small-town values and Bret Bardoff, the magazine owner who hires her for a fashion photography project. I enjoyed it more than the other reviewer apparently; it's a nice book to curl up with on a rainy afternoon.
Excerpt from the back of the book:
"Model Hillary Baxter was every photographer's delight! In front of the camera, her perfected loveliness allowed her to be anyone she wanted to be. Yet behind the high-fashion trappings, she was simply a small-town girl-and certainly no match for her new boss, Bret Bardoff! Could he learn to love the woman whose face had captured his imagination...and haunted his dreams?"

Summary: Out dated
Review: This novel was written almost 20 years ago and as such, is pretty outdated. My problem with it is that the relationship is not an equal one. She's a sweet, young innocent while he's a powerful older man. He leads the entire way and she lets him and falls in love. Back in the 1980s I might have found this a great book.
