Summary: If It Ain't Broke........!!
Review: Don't fix it!!! Watered down version of the first book. Lysette our heroine now has more of a spine and our hero ,Max, is less tormented and everybody got along w/ each other. Blah, blah, blah, boring , boring, boring. The characters...the whole story is much less compelling. Very disappointed in L.K. I think she just got too lazy to create a new story from scratch. ...

Summary: Don't waste your money!
Review: Go out and get the original, Only In Your Arms. This new updated version is a disappointing attempt to make these _historical_ characters more acceptable for the modern reader. What happens is just the opposite, Max and Lysette are much less compelling in this glossed over version than they were in Only In Your Arms. The author may not have been happy with her original effort but this is by no means an improvement. Is this an example of the type of characters we have to look forward to in historicals from now on? I hope not. What she did to Max in this updated version made me cringe.

Summary: the new politically correct version
Review: I bought the book without reading the summary because it was a book by Lisa Kleypas and I love her. My favorite book is Only in your Arms. Imagine my disappointment when I realized its the same book, not new or improved, simply modified to make the main characters more politically correct. Lysette was made over to appear more strong and educated. She was a much more likeable character without this makeover. Part of the beauty of the first book was that she was nervous and unsure but still wielded a mysterious power over her husband Max and her stepsons. While the new version is not totally bad I ended up being very disappointed.

Summary: I prefer the original version
Review: I guess I am the only one who prefers the original version. In this rewrtie, the author has made the heroine so independent and assertive that she no longer fits with the historical setting of the novel.

Lysette is supposed to be a sheltered Creole maiden but in this new version she is the embodiment of the modern American woman. Her actions and attitude are no longer consistent with the historical period in which the story is set. It felt like I was reading a time travel story, where a woman from 2003 travels back to the 1800's.

It is still a great romance and if you have never read the original, I am sure you will enjoy it. I just regret that the historical accuracy of the novel has been sacrificed to make the novel more "PC".

Summary: Ok but .................
Review: I have read many Lisa Kleypas novels and have loved every one of them. Except for this one. I thought the pace of the plot was slow and not deep enough. Too light. Maybe it was because the book was originally written over 10 years ago, but it is not like her newer books. I have not read the original of this book Only In Your Arms, and I dont think I will either. The characters were not real enough for me either. It was Ok really, I just think it could have been better considering how good her later books are in comparison with this one. I had no trouble reading it, the story flowed and the sex was OK. But once I was done reading the story, it just could have been way better. I just did not really notice until I was done and gathering my thoughts and formulating an opinion. Ok read, but I would go to the library. From now on, Im sticking to newer stories.

Summary: Sure it's a reprint..
Review: I love Lisa Kleypas and while this was not as good as her future books..which is of course to be expected I thought it was a worth while purchase as I had never read the original. I am a little confused by early reviews that were shocked it was a reprint. The author clearly states this is a reprint there are no confusionary tactics used as with some other authors who issue reprints. The author clearly states that she changed a few things including the name...per her mother's suggestion.

That being said this is a lovely romance set in New Orleans. If you like the works of Lisa Kleypas you will not be disappointed in this novel. Just keep in mind good writing by Klepas standards equates to great in comparison to other historical romance authors.

Summary: First Kleypas I ever read
Review: I loved the story of Max and Lysette. They were humorous together and you could believe the love that grew in them throughout the novel. Loved the sons, also, and loved the books that they were in also. I never got to read the original novel, Only in Your Arms, but I'm sure it will be just as gratifying a read.

Summary: It Only Keeps Getting Better And Better!!!!
Review: I must admit that although I had read "Only In Your Arms" waaaay back when, it had not "stayed" with me even though she is one of my favorite authors. I had a hard time recalling characters and the story line so for me this was like reading a new book. This was a great story full of the trademarks that make a Lisa Kleypas book a Lisa Kleypas book. There is great chemistry between Max and Lysette and the story is fast paced and interesting. Set during one of my personal favorite time periods (early 1800's) and in one of my favorite locations (New Orleans) Ms. Kleypas manages to include historic people in their own storyline that is not boring to the reader but at the same time manages to include main characters and move the story along. This is a great example of what Ms. Kleypas is able to to with her writing and storytelling talent.

Summary: I Think this is a Better Book
Review: I read Only in Your Arms some months ago and although I enjoyed the book I thought is was a little hard to get through. This book seems to concentrate more on the relationship in Max's life including that of his wife Lysette. This a nice story of what the belief of one person can do to heal the wounds of death and distrust.

Summary: So much better than the original
Review: I read the first version of this book. Only In Your Arms, several years ago, and while I thought it was okay, this updated edition is absolutely fantastic. It's like a different story! You will find some fresh surprises and some great new scenes that are very much in keeping with Kleypases sexy and elegant style. I am glad I got this book and you will be too if you try it. Definitely worth reading even if you've already read the first.
