Rating: Summary: Lowell's Done it Again... Review: This book was incredible. It's like a sin not to read this book. This book is about the oldest brother in the Donovan clan. Archer Donovan, silent, dangerous, alluring. He's dragged into the past when his half brother's wife, Hannah, calls him, pleading for help...he runs to help her when he finds out that his half brother's dead. Now his brother's forbidden wife is not so forbidden anymore. Ten years ago, Archer fell in love with Hannah. But rules of propriety held him back from doing anything about it then... now his brother's murdered and Archer and Hannah team up to find the killer and The Black Trinity. The Black Trinity is a finely cultured three string black pearl necklace. With Archer's connections and Hannah's fine knowledge, they're bound to come up with something. This book is part three of the Donovan series. Amber Beach and Jade Island are just as good. Pearl Cove is full of sensual fire and incredible wit. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a satisfying good read.
Rating: Summary: Suspence, Adventure, and Romance all in one! Review: I think this is a great book and I think everyone should read it and give it a try! Everything is so exciting and captivating that I wasn't able to set it down for one minute! The characters are also very vibrant and well developed. Archer Donovan, the eldest son in the Donovan family, finds himself in love with Hannah McGarry, his half-sister in-law. Hannah's husband, Len is murdered and Hannah teams up with Archer as they try to find Len's murderer and the famous pearl necklace called the Black Trinity. The more they work together, the more Hannah finds herself falling more and more in love with Archer and yet she's afraid that Archer might be the same as her husband was when it came to love. Elizabeth Lowell has done a great job to create this work of literature. I am looking forward to more novels involving the Donovan family. Believe me, if you like suspence/adventure/romance, you've got to get your hands on this book!
Rating: Summary: Action-Packed, Romance-Filled Adventure Down Under Review: Ten years ago Archer Donovan fell in love with Hannah McGarry, but she was with his bitter half-brother Len, so he let her marry him and move to Australia. What he didn't know was that three years later, after Len was paralyzed in an injury, that he started abusing Hannah, making her life a bitter hell.In his quest for the perfect black pearl, Len had developed a secret process and had been secretly making and hoarding black rainbow pearls, while he was trying to create the perfect necklace. He had already made enough beauties to make the "Black Trinity" which was worth about three million dollars. A cyclone ravages Pearl Cove, Australia and Len is killed. Everybody wants to believe it's an accident, but the truth is nobody liked Len McGarry, in fact everybody hated him, nobody was going to miss him. Hanna would be better off without him, but she wouldn't be better off without their entire inventory of black pearls, which was apparently lost in the storm. She calls Archer for help when greedy, opportunistic, unscrupulous and dangerous competitors start coming around, believing she knows the secret of how to create these pearls and, of course, Archer comes. When he gets to Australia their passion reignites while they try to stay alive. Hannah's foe have bitten of more than they can chew, for Archer knows about the kind of men who are after Hannah and the black pearls. Not so long ago he'd lived on the dark side where justice and the law didn't matter. And they don't matter now, not when he's defending the woman he's always loved. But can he find Len's killer and retrieve the black pearls in time? All I can say about this book is, "What a terrific read." The Donovan's are a great family and Ms. Lowell knows how to make you feel like you're a member of the clan as you race through the story, dying to see what happens next.
Rating: Summary: The Donovans just keep getting better! Review: Let me reveal my prejudices right up front - I'm a big Elizabeth Lowell fan and I've loved all of her contemporary novels, especially the Donovan series. "Pearl Cove", however, is truly exceptional. Archer Donovan is the oldest Donovan brother, and he has a definite edge about him. He's physically amazing - of course - but he also has deep emotions that he keeps tightly controlled. When his illegitimate half-brother's wife, Hannah, asks him to come to Pearl Cove, Australia following the brother's murder, he immediately leaves his comfortable home in Seattle. The trip stirs up a lot of emotions for Archer. There's his complicated relationship with the half-brother, his uncomfortable past as a secret operative, and his forbiden attraction to Hannah herself. You're in for lots of love, lust and adventure as he and Hannah sort it out. One of Lowell's fortes is her wonderful research which she artfully weaves into her story. You'll learn any amazing amount about the fascinating world of pearls while you're reading this book - the way they're made, how they are appraised and the international pearl market - but Lowell so skillfully adds it to the story that you won't feel like you're getting a lesson. You will also love her well-developed and exciting characters, not to mention the Donovan family. I like my family quite a lot, but I'd be happy to be adopted by the Donovans... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lowell will give us the stories of the absent twin brothers!
Rating: Summary: Another winner from Elizabeth Lowell Review: This was a great read! The plot was interesting, and the detail was extraordinary. I dare anyone to say that romance novels do not offer an education after reading the books in this series. Archer is a hard, strong man, looking for love. Hannah is a wounded soul who doesn't trust the ruthlessness she witnesses in him from time to time. I understood his anger when she initially rejected his love, but I could also understand her fear of getting into a relationship with a man who appeared to be so similar to her late husband. Once again, various governments come into the equation, with the bitchy April Joy renewing her acquaintance with the Donovan family. Add in the Chinese triads, and a host of people who are trying to find the secrets of the Black Trinity, and you have an action-packed, fast-paced love story. The passion is hot, the fear, pain, anger and love are emotions that come across as very real. This book is well worth adding to your collection.
Rating: Summary: THANK YOU ELIZABETH LOWELL - FOR DOING IT AGAIN TO ME Review: Thank you Elizabeth Lowell, for once again doing it to me. This book was definitely the best of the series yet. I have read all three in the series and can't wait for number four. I would recommend these books to anyone and everyone at this point, and definitely to read in order. I love this family and the way Ms. Lowell portrays them as scrapping, teasing, bullying, but most of all loving of each other. It was lovely to see her Archer character - being the hardest and toughest of them all (with the exception of THE DONOVAN), also be the one with the deepest heart so far. I suspected as much with the way he so fiercely tried to protect Honor and Kyle in Amber Beach and Jade Island. I so look forward to the next books for Faith, Justin, and Lawe, and hope that Ms. Lowell, might also consider writing the original before long as well (the story of THE DONOVAN). Again, Ms. Lowell, thank you, I have you on my favorite authors list - now and forever.
Rating: Summary: A keeper... Review: Archer Donovan has always loved Hannah McGarry. But she was the wife of his half-brother, Len, and off-limits. Len is murdered, and Hannah turns to Archer for help. Attempting to find a beautiful pearl necklace that is somehow part of all this, they end up getting close to each other. The one thing that kinda ticked me off was how Hannah was too afraid to fall in love, because Archer reminded her of her dead husband. It took a really long time for her to realize that he was anything but. However, people are reluctant to take risks in life, so I'll chalk Hannah's "over-resistance" (in my opinion anyway) up to that thought. Buy it, and you'll enjoy it.
Rating: Summary: MARVELOUS - A SURE BET Review: "Pearl Cove" is one of those rare books that you can read again and again without a lessening of your enjoyment. The complex and intelligent plot, interesting characters, and sensual by-play all combine to create one incredible story. Romance and suspense are given in equal parts, and the one enhances rather than diminishes the other. I highly recommend this book. Ms. Lowell writes about the pearl trade with a passion and fascination that leaves you wanting to know even more about a subject you were previously unintersted in. Her handling of main character Archer Donovan's long-unrequited love for a woman abused by her former husband is expert, comforting, hopeful and passionate. I hope to see books on all of the Donovan brothers in future. Bravo, Elizabeth!
Rating: Summary: A Gem of Read Review: I have read everything that Elizabeth Lowell has ever written and by far my favorites are the Donovan Series. Peal Cove is the 3rd in a series of four (so far). Archer Donovan is my idea of the perfect alpha male. He's strong, rugged, handsome and tough - on the outside. Inside, he's tender, loving, sexy and as afraid of being hurt as the rest of us. Archer has loved Hannah for ten years but honor dictated that he ignore his feelings because she was married to his half-brother. Now, Len is dead and Hannah may be next. Archer races across the world to help/save/protect the woman he's always wanted. As typical with Lowell, the sex scenes sizzle and will make you stop...back up...and read it over! If you haven't read any of the series, I suggest starting with Amber Beach, then Jade Island and Pearl Cove. They each stand alone, but they do build on each other and are more enjoyable when you have the background.
Rating: Summary: Great, but not perfect Review: Overall this is a great read. I agree with most reviewers here that this is the best of the Donovan series. Actions, triads, lust, and pearls make a fascinating story, although I must admit that I skipped the pearl parts until the third time I read the novel. I also feel that Hannah is somehow not what I imagined for Archer`s soul-mate. Despite the author`s best attempts to portray her as a survivor with guts, integrity and pearl expertise, she pales besides Archer`s character in depth and strength. I would prefer someone more vibrant, more fiery, a little dangerous, and in a competitive situation with Archer rather than needing his protection -- in fact, I thought Archer and April Joy could make a very interesting storyline. Well, I suppose that is not Ms. Lowell`s style....
