Rating: Summary: Don't make plans for the weekend! Review: You will not want to stop reading this book once you start. The characters are beautifully written, the love scenes are pretty steamy and the point of the book is well taken. You will really be anxious to read more of this author's work. The only bummer here is that most of the rest of Nicole Jordan's books are out of print, and they tend to be expensive. Maybe some enterprising publisher will re-publish her body of work. If the rest of her books are like this one they should sell well.
Rating: Summary: OH MY GOD! Review: Damien Sinclair was something else. He could use a woman for his own desires and then at the drop of a hat just get rid of her. He continued to do that all of his adult life, that is until he met Lady Vanessa Wyndham. Vanessa wanted to repay adebt for her brother Aubrey. Aubrey somehow was responsible for Lord Sinclair's sister's accident. Vanessa went to Lord Sinclair to tell him that he would repay her brother's debt. She even suggested that she could be his sister's companion. Well of course, Damien with his erotic thoughts decided he would make her his mistress. This book was so erotic, the pages burned my hand. This book haphazardly caught my eye, while I was looking for something else. Nicole Jordan is a wonderful writer. The only historical romances I've ever read were by Beverly Jenkins. I even ordered Nicole's book called Heartbreaker. Take a bow Ms. Jordan, you deserve it.
Rating: Summary: Fabulous, Wonderful... and Erotic Review: From almost the beginning, I found myself enthralled by these characters and Ms. Jordan's style. The plot was compelling--definitely no little misunderstanding between Damien and Vanessa. Her brother played a cruel prank on his sister, which left the young woman paralyzed. Damien wants someone to pay, and Vanessa does her level best to protect her rash younger brother, at the expense of her virtue and reputation. Damien could have been a jerk about this, but he wasn't. Vanessa stirred more tender feelings, to his surprise. What follows is a wonderful example of a great romance, complete with all the steam you could ever want! My only complaint was Damien's character changed a bit. He was rude in the opening scenes and a tad too sweet after Vanessa agreed to become his mistress. But by the end, his character was smooth and perfect. I highly recommend this book to any and everyone who enjoys a love story with lots of bedroom adventures!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, but bland Review: While I liked this book when I was reading it, I cannot give it high marks. I have seen too many romance novels where a daughter/sister becomes a rake's wife/mistress, because of her family gaming debts. I found the changes in both Aubrey and Sin rather hard to believe, and the heroine's heart was really too soft. (I probably would have asked Sin why didn't he kill my brother in the first place and instisted he rectified the mistake.) The author strikes me as an excellent storyteller. She just needs an original story.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: This was my first from nicole Jordan, and I think it will also be my last. The story il full of clicheés, the characters are stereotypes who never connect, and the love scenes...well, they just left me cold. They were somehow forced, because the emotional relationship between the two characters is missing, to the point that you do not understand how they can fall in love. Also, the writing style is shabby, apart from the first couple of chapters. Not my thing.
Rating: Summary: Steeeeeamy! Review: This book has some of the most sensual love scenes I have read in a while. Sensual, yet tasteful, not skanky. Vanessa is the heroine who wants to save her brother from Damien, who wants revenge for his sister's misfortunes at the hand of Vanesss's brother. He will forgive her brother if Vanessa becomes his mistress, she wants him to teach her the finer arts of love. Not what I would say TERRIBLY original premise (the dissolute rake who falls in love despite himself; the proper woman whose sensuality is awakened) but the characters are nice to get to know, and let's face it, a well done love scene is a beauty to behold.
Rating: Summary: I must be getting old. This steamy love story bores me. Review: I'm somewhat reluctant to admit that I'm bored flat by the whole coochie of love scenes. The start of the book has a gratuitous scene of bondage-........ involving Damien and an actress, and that sets the tone of The Seduction - a no-holds barred hot, hot read. I must be getting older than I thought, because I was bored enough to start glossing over the many scenes. When I peel away all those heavy breathings and moanings and groanings, what's left is a very substandard exercise in cliché. What makes Damien a hero? He's a rake, and he uses women like toys. But since he also loves gardening, he knows his classics - aww, how sweet - and he takes time to make sure the actresses and mistresses "find pleasure" in his sessions, I guess that makes him a cut above the other womanizers prowling around. Oh, and he is also a big man, reaching past his navel, or so I'm told so many times. I guess size is also a virtue. Her late husband was an adulterer, popular among mistresses, widows, and actresses. But somehow he was brutal to Vanessa in bed, never once giving her a climax. You'd think a man so successfully promiscuous when he was alive would know how to bring a woman her pleasures, but somehow, no. Go figure out yourself how this man got so many extra-marital affairs if he was so lousy in bed. Me, I think it all boils down to two words: plot cliché. Maybe it's because I'm tired of the whole Good Girl/Bad Girl complex. Am I supposed to believe that Vanessa is okay to be loved because she's not like those actresses or prostitutes that Damien favors? Am I supposed to root for Damien because he knows his Shakespeare and he has read suffragette tracts? The author fails to convince me that Vanessa is more than just a novelty, not when she makes Vanessa yet another standard Proper Heroine Giving Herself To A Rake To Save The Family. That's the one fatal flaw about this long-delayed Nicole Jordan romance. I'm afraid this time my glasses don't fog up, but my eyes have a hard time keeping focused on the pages. Sometimes sex isn't enough, I'm afraid. Not for me anyway.
Rating: Summary: Holy mackeral - break out the fan! STEAMY! Review: I don't know how this could have happened! I am a prolific reader & yet this is the first time I've read or heard of Nicole Jordan! I LOVED this book! She captured my attention right from the get-go and managed to hold my interest as I read straight through. I DEFINITELY will be gathering up all the rest of her books now that I've had a sample of what she can do! What a wonderful job she does with the sensuality in the book. She has a fresh way of approaching a love scene and manages to avoid cliched phrases. Can't wait for her next book. I was hooked from the first two paragraphs! Good job Nicole!
Rating: Summary: This writer is my "guilty pleasure"! Review: I really enjoy her books although my mind is always telling me I "shouldn't". Frankly, the woman writes great sex scenes and always has heroes who fall wonderfully and passionately in love with the heroine. I've read every single one of her books in a single gulp. I'd put this one behind "The Savage", "The Lover" and "The Outlaw" but it still delivered awfully well!
Rating: Summary: Passion doesn't detract from story Review: Damien ("Lord Sin") is a notorious rake, and Vanessa is a widow who endured a loveless marriage. Naturally, they end up together. We've all met characters like this before. Luckily, this story avoided the usual traps. It's erotic, yet it manages to avoid the "ick factor." At the same time, it avoids becoming too slick and bland. Some readers will be disturbed by the choice Vanessa makes toward the last third of the book, when she asks Damien to teach her how to be a courtesan. (I found some of those scenes hard to take for all the eroticism.) But I think they will be more annoyed at Damien for not seeing through her actions and realizing she was doing these things because she was in love and knew he wouldn't want to marry her. Anne M.
