Summary: No more
Review: This is my last E. Lynn Harris book. The formula has worn thin and I'm no longer entertained. I have no problem with his mentioning 9/11 and Aaliyah's death in the book. Harris's books take place in the here and now and this one is in NYC so it makes sense to mention whats going on. However, I'm was not pleased with the weak soap opera plot and the cardboard characters.
If you love E. Lynn Harris then this and all the other reviews will mean nothing to you. If you haven't tried his stuff before, skip this one.

Summary: A fair followup
Review: I usually love all of Mr Harris' books, but this one left me a bit cold. For some reason Raymond seemed a bit too wishy-washy.

The story-line with Zola wasn't that interesting either. The only interesting thing going on with her was a bit of the drama from the relationship with her sister and ex.

The ending also left me very dry. There was this buildup on Raymond/Zola and their work situation with Bling Bling, The boss' family background, the situation with Ava and Yancey and everything seemed to get nicely wrapped up in the end in about 2-3 pages - no character development at all.

At the end, Davis does a complete 180 and behaves completely out of character and the book doesn't even attempt to explain/develop it!?!?!?

Summary: Awesome
Review: This book is simply awesome! From start to finish it kept me wanting more and more. If you haven't read any way the wind blows, you would want to read it first. It has some of the same charachters.I was also happy to see Ava finally gets what she deserved.

Summary: This book is a Love of my own!
Review: Listen-- the reviews of some people I have to disagree with, Mr. Harris, geneouscy to put observation of 9/11 and or Alyia's death shows that he cared and brought the fictional characters in his book to a point of realism. Writing is an Art form, not some closed minded, arrogant, set of rules that has to be formated to please the masses but to tell a story and fill the hearts of readers with an opinion, hope, love fantasy, that is set to tickle every emotion one may have and to create a world that may not exist, in our mondame, drama filled world, that still has no resoulution till this day. A Love of my own does that. A Love of my own, shows what a man that has billions of dollars could live like, his thoughts and actions. It shows us characters that we have been wondering about, that are so real to us there like our close friends and reletives whom we care for. Love of my own talks about the rule of three, in which I'm sure every women knows about, want to know about, knows about but chooses to ignore it. it's very simple friends, a love to call your own should be this book. E.Lynn Harris, has his syle, his art is beautiful, and I personally Respect his writtings. Buy it, I tell you friends it won't let you down, let all the reviews help you make a good decision. peace Author Harold Antoine Anderson.

Summary: A LOVE OF MY OWN!
Review: A Love Of My Own is a continuation of the Invisible Life series. E. Lynn Harris has carried this series to the hilt and it has become a literary soap opera. I do enjoy E. Lynn Harris' work, but I thought that Abide With Me was suppose to be the end of the series, but E. Lynn keeps resurrecting these characters with new dilemnas.

A Love Of My Own has all the major characters back with a few new ones that add a little spice and I do mean a little spice to the story. The read is not bad and not great either, but has a big twist at the end, which will leave you expecting another book from the series in the future.

Although I LOVE the original characters and your writing skills, E. Lynn please let them rest. Leave their future to our imagination. Show your fans you have some versatility where you can write something COMPLETELY new and fresh and still hold the readers interest. This series for me has become PLAYED OUT and a little TOO HOLLYWOOD for me.

Summary: Found a love of my own.....
Review: First, hats off to E. Lynn for another page turner/midnight oil burner. The story line was great and all of the characters were very well developed...even Jabar. (smile). I thoroughly enjoyed this roller coaster ride story. All of what took place in this novel is REAL....even the fiction parts of it. Thanks (as others reviewers have said) for bringing Raymond back and since Trent is not happy in this one...we know he will be back. The real life events you used....Aaliyah's death, the events of 9/11 and the oscar awards...were very key points in the book and kept me reading. I actually read this novel on vacation and what a great choice to relax and really enjoy.

I don't want to give away any of the "surprises" in the book....so let me just leave it at this. You really showed out on this on E Lynn. I enjoyed it and will highly recommend it to all of the readers I know....those who can sincerely appreciate a well versed and respected author like yourself.

I am proud of you. Keep these novels coming. There are a lot of writers out there....but few who can hold a match to you.

(no i am not his cousin....(smile)..just a true fan for life).

Lastly, I have also found "a love of my own" (JKL)...which made the title of this one....so meaningful to me/for me.

Many blessings,

Summary: The Full Circle Syndrome.
Review: In E. Lynn's latest installment, Raymond Tyler of INVISIBLE LIFE
is back and working in the legal department of BLING BLING, an urban magazine, along side Zola Norwood, a very accomplished woman who runs the mag and is sleeping with the man who owns the company that publishes it, Davis McClinton. Everything would be okay with this scenerio, if Davis wasn't already married to stuck-up socialite Veronica. One thing that can be said about this novel is that there are no pretenses among the characters. Zola knows about Davis wife, and his other lovers at other ports, which is why she keeps Jabar, her slightly doofy, yet constantly horny side dish around. Davis knows that the only reason Zola's sleeping with him is to stay at the head of the publication and to keep the finances coming, so it's okay with him. Raymond has left his partner Trent because of an infidelity and walked into this circus that is causing more problems, especially when Basil pops back into the scene and feelings are starting to re-develop. Each one of these characters continue to move on in chaotic fashion, until a point is reached where they must pay the piper and face what they each are hiding from each other and themselves. The lession learned here is that the truth can be a very ugly fact when it's finally released from under numerous layers of denial and lies. As always, the characters are in sync with each other and the story flows like a river. Another winner!

Summary: I enjoy it ...but somthing was missing...*sadface*
Review: Harris I did enjoy your storytelling. I think the noval had a great feel at the begin of the book. I truly love the feeling of the 9/11 events. It gave the reader a feeling as being present in New York at that very moment. Harris displays many details and emotion and heart when he is storytelling. He writes you into the scene of the story; therefore, he never loose focus of the reader. As much as I enjoyed the story and the warm-hearted Raymond Tyler and the wild Basil.. the story felt that it was "rushed." In addition, the last couple of chapters it was several holds or things that were left unsaid. For Example, What happen with the Zola and Davis dispute? Yes, overall I enjoyed the book and look forward to many more to come. I like the style of Harris's.

Summary: Quantity is not Quality... take your time e.lynn & doubleday
Review: This is one if the most trifling books I have ever read!!! I have read all of the e.lynn harris books and after the first three, the quality started dwindling... stop speeding-up on your writing to cash-in on your fan-base!!! As your fan I felt like with this book, I was taken for granted and taken for a ride and I WANT my money back... who edited that nonsense and decided to pass it on for a book!!! If I wanted to read urban materialistic drama, I could have picked other bubblegum writers, but apparently if Doubleday carries on to pressure you to spit-out a book a year, you are going to join the genre of bubblegum writers, when I firmly believe you were on the track to join the likes of James Baldwin, Zora and Toni... I love your work, appreciate what you do as an African-American writer, and I will remain loyal and wait for a quality book!!! read Invisible Life again... just remind yourself of where you come from when you were doing it for the ART.....
