Rating: Summary: ELH At His Absolute Best!!! Review: E. Lynn Harris' A Love Of My Own was so captivating and well-written, that I could not put it down...literally! I finished this book in eight hours. With a delicious plot and vibrant characters, Mr. Harris quickly drew me into the story.Mr. Harris skillfully crafts a story that's full of unexpected twists and turns, the most unexpected plot twist being the redemption of the one and only John Basil Henderson. Mr. Harris even brings back the looney lounge singer, Ava Middlebrooks, and her presence has a profound affect on the book's ending. Hands down, A Love Of My Own is my favorite E. Lynn Harris book! He simply took my breath away with this one...
Rating: Summary: E. Lynn Strikes Again! Review: October 15th, 1997. That's the day when E. Lynn Harris signed my copy of 'And This Too Shall Pass', his third novel. I'd been a voracious fan from the beginning but that was the day I got to meet the man behind the words. His latest, 'A Love of My Own', places cool new characters with old favorites on a rollercoaster ride through actual traumatic world events, with accuracy . . . and E. L.'s smooth, keepin' it real, style. It's one of those books that hooks you from page one and forces you to read straight to the end. So unplug the phone and lock the bedroom door. E. Lynn Harris is still King of the guilty pleasure read!
Rating: Summary: E.Lynn does it again Review: What can you really say E.Lynn is a good writer. He is one of the best. If you are homophobic pick up this book it will dispel your myth about gay men. This is about two very positive men who really all they want is each other. But because one is scared to come out of the closet. They have to play games until it takes something really dramatic to happen to one for the other to realize what he might lose. This book is set when the world trade center terrorist attack was going on. Watch how these african-american men and women deal with the attack.
Rating: Summary: What Love got to do with it! Review: I have loved E. lyyn Harris since I first started reading him. It saddens me that this book not only did not live up to the rest but then I feel as he is moving into another direction with his readings and I am not following. I rushed out to get this book but will not when the next one comes out.
Rating: Summary: I liked it Review: I was never really into E. Lynn Harris. That is until I read "Not a day goes by". I liked that book a lot, so when this one came out, I wanted to read it. Now I own it. I read it in 3 days. Great book.
Rating: Summary: Dissapointed Review: I am a big fan of E. Lynn Harris. I did not find this to bee one of his best works. I have been reading A Love of My Own for three weeks now compared to the usual week it would take for me to read a great book. The book started off so slow I didn't get excited to turn the page until the 27th Chapter of Book Two. I found alot of the material to repeat itself throughout the book and then not enough concentration on other situations like the relationship with Zola and Justine. I did complete the book and I can't wait to see what comes next from Harris. I am just used to receiving more when I read one of his books.
Rating: Summary: Too Good To Put Down Review: This book was just to good! E. Lynn Harris really put his foot in this! When you think one thing is about to happen the opposite happens. I can't wait to read his next book.
Rating: Summary: Another notable mention for E. Lynn! Review: Another notable mention for E. Lynn! The story centers around a magazine called Bling Bling, which is run by an black man with a questionable past. Then, there is Zola; the chief editor of the magazine who isn't sure about whether she'll be giving love a try. E. Lynn brings back some old favorites like Raymond, who is on retainer as an attorney, living all alone in New York, and exploring a new type of "friendship" with Basil. After an objectional article on Yancey is published, Zola and Raymond get into a fierce battle. The story ends with Raymond and Zola each finally geting what and who they want. There are also appearances by Nicole, Jared, Kirby, Moms, Pops, and Trent, characters from previous literary works from E. Lynn. You'll really enjoy this one.
