Summary: A fast paced serial killer tale
Review: Many say that FBI agent Maggie O'Dell has lost it, but none of them know the mental torture she had endured while trying to capture killer Albert Stucky.

Since the capture of Stucky, Maggie has had to live with her fellow co-workers belittling her, as well as the images of the victims she could not save. But, as Maggie is getting a grip on her life, she learns the news that Stucky has escaped.

As the body count rises, and the trail seems to be leading directly to Maggie, The Bureau puts her back on the case, only this time the hunt will push her to the limits, as Stucky has his own twisted game he wants to play.

Under the supervision of Special Agent R.J. Tully, Maggie will follow the trail of victims, only to discover she is on the verge of crossing the line...one that separates her from the madman she is hunting down. And, she is left wondering one thing, has her need to stop Stucky turned her into a monster?

'Split Second' is an awesome follow- up to the thriller 'A Perfect Evil'. The pages turn as fast as the bodies fall, and even though Alex Kava keeps the suspense pumped, she manages to detail the troubles of her heroine, giving readers an understanding of what is going through Maggie's mind.

With this, her second novel, Alex Kava has become an author to reckon with in the thriller genre. As many people are trying to write good serial killer novels, Ms. Kava is doing it. And, as with the novel before it, 'Split Second' is a page-turning tale of cat and mouse that will further catapult the author to the forefront of thriller writers.

Summary: Ms. Kava Is On Her Way!!
Review: Ms. Kava is on her way to becoming a very good suspense writer. Her second book "Split Second" has the scary and chilling killer, the strong and willful heroine (Agent Maggie O'Dell from the first book) and plenty of spine chilling suspense that will keep you glued to the pages until the very end.

This was a fast paced read and one that I highly recommend. Ms. Kava is a fresh new voice to this genre and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future.

Summary: I Forced Myself to Finish This Book
Review: Ms. Kava's second book is not anywhere near as suspenseful as her first one. Here she substitutes the grotesque and violence against women for suspense. I kept waiting for the book to grab me but it never did. With 80 pages left I had to put the book down and go do something. A couple days went by and I realized I didn't care if I finished it or not. Albert Stucky is like a ghost. He is not believable. He delivers room service to O'dell's hotel room and we are supposed to believe he is in disguise and not recognized as the police and FBI search. Too often Kava wants us to take her word that unbelievable things happened instead of showing us they happened. (It would have been impossible to write some of these scenes because they could never happen.) MS. Kava appeals to the baser instincts of human beings. I can't recommend this book, not even as escapist fiction. The ending was not good and I did not feel satisfied after reading it. And what about the priest from the last book? How did he get this crucifix to Stucky? Kava writes in this book like O'dell wanted to go after the priest in the last book, but in reality she let him go to kill more kids because Maggie was too tired. I expected Kava's writing to get better in the second novel, but it did not happen.

Summary: Suspense
Review: Okay most of it is predictable and it is probably pretty close to Jack from the profiler series but it is still fun and suspensefull at times.

Summary: A Notch Below
Review: Prior reviewers have already divulged more than you need to know about this book before you "Just Read It!" Clarice (er- FBI Agent/profiler Maggie) is back and Hannibal (er- brutal serial killer Albert Starkey ) has escaped from custody. I strongly urge you to read Kava's first book, *A Perfect Evil,* first and then *Spit Second* second, as these books are as interwoven as daytime serials and are "To Be Continued" in the next episode: *The Soul Catcher,* which lives up to * A Perfect Evil," which are both much better than this perhaps transitional episode. Stay tuned! See what happens to Harvey (no, he's not a 6 foot sometimes-invisible rabbit this time.)

Summary: GREAT READ
Review: Split Second was a great follow up to Perfect Evil! The other reviews pretty much did a good job of summing up the book!
I just wanted to add that I love the way Alex Kava brings out Maggie! And I have to admit I cant wait for soul Catcher; so that I could find out if Maggie and Nick are once more teamed up!

Summary: Loved this one, really chilling
Review: The standout performance in this book goes to the psychopathic bad guy, Albert Stucjy, Having read about my fair share of serial killers both real and fictional this guy really made me sit up and take notice with his sheer inhumanity and evil. the author unflinchingly probes his incredibly dark soul in a way that will unsettle almost any reader. The other characters are likeable and realistic. Maggie is a good three dimmensional character who has to battle plenty of her own demons while going after Stucky and her befuddled and clumsy but ultimately likeable profiler partner provides a refreshing change from the kind of "hero supercop" who usually proliferate this genre. This is a great book! Although not one for the timid...I found it an improvement over "A Perfect Evil" which turns out to be just an appetizer for this main course.
