Rating: Summary: DON"T READ THIS BOOK! YOU WON"T MISS A THING!! Review: It is a wonder to me how books like this can get published. There is simply nothing to this story. Any feminist should be disgusted entirely. I thought it was going to be a good story when the heroine didn't want to get married because she had a higher posiion coming to her. She was forced to get married of course but five minutes after she meets the hero (who just happens to be outrageously handsome) she declares "Maybe this marriage isn't going to be so bad after all" How trite can a person be. YUK! And then of course there is sex galore from beginning to end. All very senseless and poorly done. I feel sorry for the 8 people before me who gave it 5 stars. A real no brainer -- An extreme disappointment
Rating: Summary: Generation to come will love this book Review: I can't thank Jude Deveraux enough for introducing the Montgomery men into my life. This book made me laugh , cry and even become angry to the fact that some times love can be so blind. I fell so in love with Gavin Montgomery that I named my first son after him. I have since read all of Jude Deveraux novels and have a long list of names for Gavin's siblings.
Rating: Summary: Ok, so the story line was good. Review: Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy this book, but I don't see what all the fuss is about. It was not so much better that any of the other books I have read, as a matter of fact it is not even on my list of top 10. It did have a sweet story, but I like my books to make me blush and sweat. This one did not do that. I won't run to the store to pick up another of Ms. Deveraux's too soon.
Rating: Summary: It made me want more! Review: Lucky! That's what I considered myself for reading "Promise" first. I fell in love with the Montgomery brothers from the beginning. I wanted to know them all, from first to last. This book made me Devereaux fan, and I have been devoted since I read this book 13 years ago. Once you read one, you will be an addict-- a happy one. Her books are not only fun and informative, but also sensual and exciting. She creates characters that are real, but can also mess up--people that are fun to know. I read Everything J.D. writes--she makes me laugh out loud and cry big tears. I LOVE THESE BOOKS!

Gavin is sworn to love another, but soon he discovers Judith is the strength and love he has waited for. Judith forgives Gavin for his treatment of her over and over again only because she loves him. In the end they both see the true love which exists between them.
Rating: Summary: If you haven't read this book u don't know what your missing Review: Velvet Promise is a tale of lust, revenge, happiness, and eternal love. The characters in this story compliment each other and work with each other to create the most spellbounding epic of the decade the whole series involving the montgomery family is unique and priceless. If you haven't read it yet you don't know what your missing!
Rating: Summary: What a great book! Review: This book was hard to put down. I liked the characters right away a wanted to know more about them. I hope all of the Highland books are this good!
Rating: Summary: What do you mean you haven't read this yet?! Review: Jude Deveraux writes a beautiful tale of love, desire and intrigue. And this is only the first book in the Velvet series! I loved the characters, they reminded me of my friends. I don't know how many times I read this series but I always come back to it. Perhaps it's Deveraux's ability to write a story that makes the reader feel for the characters, make them laugh and cry. Whatever the reason, this book is an excellent read. And I recommend the rest of the books in the Velvet series, too!
Rating: Summary: A very good book for it's time Review: I actually read this book after I read "Highland Velvet" and it was the start of my addiction to Historical Romances when I was a teenager LOL. At the time this book was written it was the "norm" for the Hero to be a brute to the Heroine. I fell in love with Judith she was smart, strong and beautiful. I didn't think Gavin deserved her at all but still I loved the way Jude brought this all together. If readers can keep in mind the time that this book was written I think they will enjoy it for what it is. A classic Deveraux
Rating: Summary: Horrible writing Review: I've given Jude Deveraux many chances and have come up disappointed and dissatisfied each time. I read Remembrance, The Duchess, and A Knight in Shining Armor before picking up Velvet Promise at the bookstore. And after reading it, I've come to the conclusion that I simply do not like Jude Deveraux. Velvet Promise contains all the elements I've detested in her the previous works I've read, leading me to the conclusion that each Jude Deveraux book I read was not simply "not her best," but a trend in her writing. Her writing style is childish, and the simplistic sentence structures are boring and do not lend to the sense of passion and feeling a romance novel should emit. I couldn't get into the characters at all - Gavin was childish, as was Judith, and Alice, well, she was too over-the-top as the jealous ex-girlfriend villan. The story was so uninteresting that I almost didn't finish it because I found myself not caring one bit what happened to any of the characters. This is the end of my trial of Jude Deveraux. If you want to read some fast paced, fun, interesting romances with great dialogue and intreging characters and storylines, try anything by Judith McNaught, Julia Quinn, Suzanne Enoch, or Stephanie Laurens.
