Rating: Summary: Never dies Review: The first time I read this book was in 1987. I absolutely loved it!! Throughout the years, I've gone back to this book many times. The characters are alive and they have such intense personalities that you will always remember them. This is the first of the Velvet chronology. Once you read the first you won't stop until you've read all four of them! It's wonderful!!
Rating: Summary: A MUST read for any fan of romance... Review: This is the first of the four part Velvet series. As the first book I had read by Jude Deveraux, I had no preconceived notions. In fact, when I first read this I had no idea it was part of a series. I was just lucky to have picked it up first! In this novel we are introduced to the four Montgomery brothers. The Montgomery family was once a powerful family, but that have recently fallen on hard times. Their luck is about to change when an opportunity for the oldest brother, Gavin, to marry an heiress is presented to him. Judith, the heiress in question, was raised from the time she was born to enter the convent. She in no way, shape, or form wants to be saddled with a husband. And thus the stage was set for fireworks to fly between the newlyweds. This is an excellent start to a great series. I have read the entire series several times, and I can never decide which book is my favorite in the series. Highly recommended...
Rating: Summary: How could I have missed this? Review: This book (and the entire Velvet series) was written in the 80's, but I've just stumbled across it. I started with the 3rd book (Velvet Song) and my interest was piqued - I bought the other 3 to see how all the Montgomery brothers ended up. This one is a real keeper, a great love story. Judith and Gavin are right pig headed at times - and he does hit her early on, so if that bothers you (and it does me) be warned. However, the story is so well-written, the characters are so interesting. You understand the appeal, for instance, of Raine Montgomery in this book (it's not so clear in "his" book, Velvet Song - he's a sour guy in that one). The villians are great in this book, the heroes strong - what more could you want. I'm half way through Highland Velvet (Stephen's book) and it's just as good as this one!
Rating: Summary: A GREAT BOOK Review: I AGREE WITH THE OTHER REVIEWERS ABOUT THIS BEING THE BEST OF THE 4 SERIES OF THE VELVET SERIES. IT WAS A GOOD READ! SUCH A ROMANTIC AND PASSIONATE BOOK, FROM JEALOUSY TO BETRAYAL...THOSE WHO DIDN'T ENJOY WERE MISSING OUT....
Rating: Summary: My Favorite of all Velvet Series Review: I have read all velvet series and i have come to my own conclusion that this is the best of all four. It brought about all possible emotions u can think of out of me while reading this book. Gavin made me furious in the beginning! He is a fool. Yet, in reality, this things happend. Love does make us blind, somtimes. For years, Alice was an epitome of a woman Gavin wanted her to be. What's worst, Alice did her part well too. Witch! :-) She makes me sick, disgusted. Gavin is not one of my favorite historical romance heroes but in the end, i liked him better than in the beginning. As for Judith - Ugh, there are times, She makes me so mad, i had to throw the book...then i cannot wait to pick it up again. hehehe. Why does she put up with this man? Then, I feel sorry for her. Pity. She is confusingly in love and wanted to make her marriage work. By the time, i get really frustrated with her, she shows strength and courage. She never once lost her self esteem. She does what she believes is right and fights for her belief too. She is innocent and always true to herself. No pretentious. I ended up admiring her. She is definitely one of my favorite heroines of all times. This book is so exciting from front to end. I have many many favorite parts in this book, like for instance, when Judith gave a FAVOR to Gavin during a tournament and I love their wedding ceremony, how they were attracted to each other at first sight, though i wished the bedding part was more romantic than a forceful act. It was afterall, her first time. Well, I do not want to give it all away here. The book will surely set fires in your heart, soul and body. It will make u so mad, sad, frustrated, depressed then happy and relieved. It will make you cry, scream and laugh. This is the kind of book you wouldn't want to miss. A keeper in your collection.
Rating: Summary: SINS OF THE PAST Review: WHEN I FIRST READ THE BOOK I CRIED. JUDITH WAS IN A NO WIN SITUATION. HERE AS SHE FEEL IN LOVE WITH HER HUSBAND, HE WAS IN LOVE WITH HIS PAST. A PAST THAT INSISTED ON INTERFERRING WITH HIS PRESENT. THIS BOOK IS A GOOD, CORRECTION EXCELLENT READ. MY HAT GOES OF TO MISS DEVERAUX
Rating: Summary: A Gotta Read Book! Review: I have to admit this was the second Jude Deveraux book I read and this one was the best so far. I haven't read any of her other ones, but after reading this one, I'll be most likely to.
Rating: Summary: promise to read this if your a romace fan Review: This book has always been and still has yet to be topped as my favorite book. It starts out with Gavin who marries a young girl out of honor thinking that he is still in love with another woman, a lying deceitful wench. Later on in the book he realizes that he is falling in love with he bride but by then things have changed and his bride doesn't want to put up with it anymore. He convinces her to love him again but the other woman tries to get back into the picture. The things that Gavin does will drive you crazy. I cried when I read this book, it really touched me. You have to read it. I recommend the entire velvet series, but this is my favorite. I've loaned it to all my friends and it's always been the same, they all love it. I even bought a new copy of it just so I could keep re-reading it because my old one is so worn from reading. read this book, i doubt you'll regret it
Rating: Summary: Interesting Story Review: This was my first Jude Deveraux Book and I really enjoyed it very much, I loved the story, the heroine was spirited and the hero mad, and their interaction was an explosive mix of romance and humour. Its the first of a quartet, and its followed by Highland Velvet, Velvet Song, and Velvet Angel.I hope they will be just as good.
Rating: Summary: A Great Romance Novel Review: This was by far one of Jude's best pieces of literature I think all of the velvet series are good but this one is the best in my opinion it is funny, thrilling, and romantic everything a good romance novel needs
