Rating: Summary: One of the best stories I've ever read! Review: "Years" is a beautiful and touching romance novel that takes your breath away and leaves you turning the pages in anticipation. Although I'm only 15, I found this story a timeless classic that I will read over and over for a long time. The descriptions of the landscape were magnificant and seemed to put me in the story. I recommend this to anyone that enjoys romance novels with a real story involved.
Rating: Summary: Excellent tale for the grown-up reader of Ingalls-Wilder Review: A warm-hearted love story, likeable characters, and dislikeable ones. A wonderful book. I read Laura Ingalls-Wilder as a child and this book reminded me of a combination between that author's "Farmer Boy" and the walnut creek book where Almanzo Wilder is taking Laura back and forth to the school in his buggy.
My only complaints are there was a lot of sexual tension, but a let down on the love scenes between the two of them. And all the action was at the end, it gave the novel a disjointed feel. And of course all the bad things happen at the end; the bad overshadowed the good in my mind is how I'll remember this book.
Rating: Summary: A Tribute to Pioneer Schoolteachers! Review: A wonderful, true-life story of a schoolteacher and her struggles to "fit-in" in North Dakota in the late l800's. Her difficulties and experiences are those many experienced at that time. The characters are believable, and we share in all Linnea's experiences to their succesful and happy conclusion. This is a story you can recommend to your young adult daughters! Evelyn Horan - teacher/counselor/author Jeannie, A Texas Frontier Girl, Books One - Three
Rating: Summary: I fall in love every time I read it :-)!! Review: About once a year or two I read Years and I fall in love with Teddy all over again. I never have to skip over parts because I've read the book so many times, and I always find myself awake late into the night finishing the story. I just can't put it down. Linnea is also an endearing character. She doesn't irritate me with non-stop defiance, and she doesn't make me sick with her beauty and perfection. I love these two characters and all the others surrounding their story. You will NOT be disappointed when you buy this book.
Rating: Summary: Age doesn't matter when Love is the subject- Review: Another good story- 18 year old Linnea Brandonberg is ready to venture out on her own. She leaves her family and hometown to arrive in Alamo, ND (that is more a community than town) as the new school teacher. It has been arranged for her to stay with 34 year old, widower Theodore Westgaard, his mother and 15 year old son Kristian. Theodore is a wheat farmer who is bitter against women due to a failed marriage that left him with a 1 year old son many years ago. Friction between Theodore and Linnea starts right off when she steps off the train and Theodore realizes that L.I. Brandonberg is a woman instead of a man. As time goes by Linnea starts bringing that imaginary brick wall down that Theodore has thrown up. Feelings are discovered between each other but Theodore can't get past their age difference until he is forced to. Theodore wants to continue denying his feelings for Linnea keeping her close, but Linnea decides she can't continue living under the same roof with Theodore denying her feelings for him. She wants all or nothing and when Theodore won't consider marriage she moves in with Theodore's sister Clara and her family forcing Theodore to face a possible future without her. Love wins out. But there is soooo much more to the story! You truly get a feel of the characters and story. It is a story of a young girl pioneer school teacher that braves many hardships to make a difference with the children and families throughout the community while she herself developes into an strong independent woman knowing what she wants and going after it. It is a story of a wheat farmer that has made a successful life for himself and son even though there has been an undescribable emptiness there up to now. It is a story of a community that is mainly made up of relatives that have settled close by, becoming dependent on each other to survive - willing to take in a stranger and make her feel a part. The book is definitely a keeper.
Rating: Summary: My favorite L. Spencer book! Review: As a teacher, I am always drawn toward novels which have to do with my profession. As a lover of historical romances, I am particularly drawn toward novels which focus on one-room schoolhouse teachers. This romance flows perfectly, thanks to Spencer's creation of two very compatible characters who need each other in different ways. I've always been a fan of Spencer's writing: her timing is perfect, and doesn't spoil the surprise by getting the characters together too early. Sure, there's a formula to it, but the formula works in my eyes. I have read nearly all of LaVyrle Spencer's books, and I have read Years several times to date. This book and _Hummingbird_ are two of my favorite romance novels of all time; I recommend them both highly!

Rating: Summary: At The Top Of My List Review: Excellent!!! This is what I love in a book . The characters personalities run so deep . We are able to see Linnea grow from a dreamy young lady to a very capable woman . I could really relate to her . I also like the fact that the major antagonists in this book were nature (Blizzards , spanish influenza)they were very real to evey one alive at that time . A book full of great characters . I loved every page .
Rating: Summary: Amazing. Review: I can't say I was captivated by the storyline in the beginning, because of the age difference issue. As I read on, however, I forgot about the difference in 16 years between Theodore and Linnea and realized that their romance overrides that slight age difference obstacle. I liked how in the beginning, they both resist their attraction for each other...but can't help it as the story draws on. Theodore has his flaws and I loved how the hero isn't perfect--it made me like him that much more. I also enjoyed the fact that Linnea grows up in more ways than one. All the catastrophic events that happens in the last portion of the novel may make some think it's a little overdone, but for me, the events just made me believe that they can get through anything. 'Years' is definitely a novel that I'll be reading over and over again in the future.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I could not put this book down, I absolutely loved the characters and the time put into explaining the scene and the history and the romance and EVERYTHING! I read it in three days because I just couldn't put it down. I am a die hard Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb fan but this gives Nora a run for her money. Don't miss this book!
