Rating: Summary: Mystery with Romance Review: "Best Kept Secrets" is one of those detective movies where the detective wouldn't let anything stop him or her from finding out the truth, no matter how much it hurts. Alexandra Gaither wants to find out who murdered her mother 25 years ago and she would stop at nothing to find out the truth. She accuses three important men of murder and soon threats start coming in, trying to stop her. While Alex is trying to find the truth, her mother's past lover tries to help her and also tries to keep her from finding the truth. (He thinks that if she finds the truth, it would be the undoing of everything this town holds important) His name is Reede Lambert and between Reede and Alex, there is definitely some sexual thing going on between them. As Alex tries to find out more about her mom's murder, she discovers that things are not what they seem. She discovers that the image her grandmother portrays about her mother was all a sham and she finds it harder and harder to convict the "suspects" because she's getting closer to them. Each of the three men has their own status they hold in her hurt. One is a father figure to her, one is like a friend and the other one is something more than a friend... I like this book because of how it was developed and how it ended. It's a mystery and romance sort of thing.
Rating: Summary: 4-1/2 stars actually Review: Alex (Alexandra) Gaither, an attorney out to find out who really killed her mother, travels to Purcell County to investigate three men, one of whom she feels killed Celina. She finds herself attracted to Reede, one of the suspects. Bad things happen and she is involved every time especially as her investigation finds her closer to the murderer. I'm not so disturbed about the 18 years difference in ages; she's 25 and two of the suspects (Reede & Junior) are 43. The other suspect is Junior's father. I had a problem accepting the fact that Reede and Junior were both involved with her mother Celina and now wanted Alex the daughter. One could easily have been her stepfather had Celina not died first. I also found that I was angry at Reede most of the time because he was plain nasty to Alex throughout most of the book. I couldn't stand it that he treated her with so much disrespect. He's actually a good guy (deep deep down) but his mean attitude stemmed from an overwhelming desire to avoid the daughter of the woman he loved that had now filled his thoughts. (At least he acknowledges it's wrong). Junior, in my opinion would have been better for her in some ways as he was always kind to her, but he was such a 'Papa Pleaser'. Lastly, a few issues were never brought to justice and I'm not talking about the murder. Nevertheless, the ending caught me by surprise and the epilogue was good enought to merit the 4-1/2 star rating (Had it been available).
Rating: Summary: Best Kept Secrets Review: Alex Gaither, Assistant District Attorney, talks her boss into letting her go back to her mother's childhood town to reopen the case of her mother's murder. Alex believes the wrong man was convicted of the crime and she wants to find the real killer and bring him to justice. On her return to Purcell, Texas she meets up with the other three main characters in the story. Angus Minton and his son Junior, one of her mother's close friends, and Reede Lambert, the Sheriff of the county and her mother's other close friend. Alex suspects one of these three is the real murderer and she wants the truth about her mother's murder. These three men, all influential in the area, have many secrets to keep and do not want to help Alex in any way. In fact, they want her to hightail it back to Austin where she belongs. Alex won't give up and begins the investigation into the murder. Secrets will be unveiled and lives changed forever as she searches for the truth. This was a good book with an excellent storyline. Ms. Brown delivers twists and turns with each chapter. The reader is never bored with the story because it's constantly changing. Just when you think you know who the murderer is something happens to make you change your mind. The characters are somewhat believable. One can understand Alex's need to find her mother's killer and bring them to justice. One aspect of the book I disliked was Alex's attraction to Junior and Reede. These men are old enough to be her father and whom she suspects killed her mother yet she is attracted to them. This aspect fits into the storyline to help develop the plot but I just found it too weird. The ending of the book is weak too. With the whole story being what it is the ending seemed to be a let down. I was a little disappointed in the ending Ms. Brown chose. It took me a little over two weeks to read this book because I was sick and couldn't read much. I feel though if I hadn't been sick I would have read this book in one to two days. It was hard to put down because I wanted to find out who the killer was. This is definitely a book I would recommend. It's a great mystery/romance to keep you on the edge of your seat.

Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Another excellent entry from Sandra Brown! If you like lawyer stories order this RIGHT NOW! Also order along with it LEAVES OF RED AND GOLD by Scott Chapman, another excellent lawyer story!
Rating: Summary: Skip this one! It's so irresponsibly wrong Review: As much as I enjoy Sandra Brown's books, I have to be honest to say this one is bad. I agree with those viewers about a would-be shorter book being stretched; the likelihood of finding the herioine's mother's killer after 25 long years was absurd, and the things between the herione and the hero were unbelievable and almost sickening. What's gotten into the heroine? She went to her mother's town to find her mother's murderer, but soon, ended sleeping with one of the suspects, let alone also her mom's ex-lover. If the herione was so smart as SB said she was, and disciplined and logical as what her profession supposedly required, why did SB let her do such contradicting things? When the woman weakened, we would have hoped that the hero being a hero was strong and would have some senses, but no, he had lost his head too. Should one surrender all to carnal hunger and pleasures and throw away decency and morals? Generally, I liked the stories' heroines and heros, but here both were unworthy. Why am I writing this when I shared the same feelings with those viewers? Just to make a stronger point that they are right!
Rating: Summary: train commute reader Review: I did enjoy this book. I found the characters very intriguing, expecially Celina's. Though, the relationships Alex developed with the other characters were a little unreal at times. (Alex, a lawyer investigating her mother's murder, goes into this quite blindly, with such a lack of information to begin with. It makes me mad that the very people she supsects, she socializes with as though they were family friends. Even goes as far as to seek "special" comfort and throw herself at her mom's old flame who happens to be a suspect?????) Given that, when reading the book you can all somewhat understand where 'most' of these characters are coming from. I guess I liked it more for the mystery of Celina's character and drama, don't get me wrong, the romance scenes were mucho caliente. If I had liked this Alex character better, the book would have gotten 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: You shouldn't miss this one Review: I have liked all of Sandra Brown's romantic suspenses, but I loved this one. It goes next to "Slow Heat in Heaven" on my really really favorite list. I guessed the murder rather quickly, but it was still intriguing to find out what would happen next. I liked the tension between Alex and Reede. However, I found the last line of the book to be completely ridiculous. But that's my only complaint.
Rating: Summary: Not her best, but again a page turner (3,5 stars) Review: I have read all books of Sandra Brown including her early works. Her style is getting better and better in each book. Best Keep Secrets is actually about a seek of murderer. Assistant District attorney, Alex Gaither wants the truth about her mother's murder, that's why an investigation starts. In spite of some logical errors, it was really difficult to put down this book. I recommend it only who likes the work of Sandra Brown.
Rating: Summary: Not a keeper... Review: I have read other Sandra Brown books, and am a fan of hers, but this has been my least favorite book so far. I gave this book 3 stars (and not less) because it WAS a page turner for me. If there was a 2.5 star rating that is what I would give this book. This book was captivating enough to keep me reading, because I wanted to know who had murdered Alex's mother. And I kept turning the pages IN SPITE of Alex's realtionship with her mother's former sweetheart Reede. It is inconceivable to me that if you are investigating your mother's murder that you could find yourself falling in love with one of the suspects in her murder case. Due to the unrealtistic nature of the plot of this book, I could not give this a 4 or a 5 star rating.
