Summary: This author is one of the best historical romance writers
Review: Ten years ago, Guinevere Mary Fairchild, daughter of Charles Fairchild of the Sussex Fairchilds, killed a man. The only witness to the incident is Sebastian Durant, Viscount Whitfield, who hates the Fairchilds. Now, a decade later, Sebastian has found Mary posing as a housekeeper to his godmother, Lady Valerie. He blackmails her into helping him retrieve a diary that the Fairchilds apparently possess. Though he is not sure what type of welcome she will receive from her estranged family, she agrees to pose as his fiancee in exchange for his silence. ..... The pair travels together, chaperoned by Lady Valerie, to Mary's ancestral home, a place she was thrown out of ten years ago by her now deceased grandfather. All the Fairchilds are filled with dark secrets, going so far as to blackmail Mary, who realizes by now that she has fallen in love with her "fiancee." However, chances of his reciprocating her feelings are slim since he thinks all Fairchilds are thieves and crooks and her current relatives do not do anything to change his mind. ...... A WELL PLEASURED LADY is an extremely pleasurable late eighteenth century Scottish romance that should thrill fans of the historical romance sub-genre. The lead characters make a superb pair even if they prefer it to be otherwise. The story line is crisp, loaded with suspense, and brings historical Scotland to life. Christina Dodd is one of the most dependable writers of historical romance and her current tale is a grand slam home run. .......Harriet Klausner

Summary: Outstanding As Usual
Review: There are quite a few opposite opinions on the review of this book. Myself, I loved it!

Lady Guinevere Mary Fairchild had disappeared from the face of the earth and had hidden herself in the Scottish highlands assuming the identity of housekeeper for the elderly Lady Valery. As the story opens, Lady Valery's godson, Sebastion, Lord Whitfield, has come to help his godmother retrieve a missing tell-all diary. Let me just say here, that Lady Valery gives new meaning to the phrase of one having "frost on the roof but still fire in the furnace" - this secondary character alone rates the book a 5* review!

Lord Whitfield, could identify her as a murdress, as he was the only witness that saw her with dirt and blood on her dress the night she had committed murder. His request for her assistance and her devotion to Lady Valery who had been both her friend and employer these last 10 years convinced her to help them to retrieve the diary.

Both Mary and Sebastian had little reason to trust or even like one another. She being a Fairchild and he being a Durant. The Fairchilds had been the cause of his family's ruin and disgrace, and Mary, was on pins and needles waiting to be turned over to the authorities and hung. Yet, there was that attraction that both felt yet neither would admit.

Now, the cause of the big descrepancy here is whether Mary was forced, raped or a willing participant. I do not believe rape was an issue here, forced to accept her own passion yes, but rape, not! Does one swoon, and orgasm over rape - I think not.

The Fairchild family is a trip. The Uncles run the gamut from the most evil to the most benign as do the cousins. All in all a wonderful cast of supporting characters! This was another 5* effort by Ms. Dodd. You won't regret picking up a copy to read!

Summary: A Well-Pleasured Reader
Review: This book is a wonderful read. The heroine, Mary, spent years hiding as a housekeeper to Lady Vale'ry. Years ago she has shot dead a man who was trying to rape her brother. And now Lady Vale'ry's relative Sebastian Durant seeks her help to seek a diary stolen by her relatives. And Sebastian was the one witness to her shooting of the panderast years ago.

What makes this book a good read is the taut sexual tension between those two, so taut you can cut it with a knife. Sebastian is a complex man - hardened by years of poverty, ruthless in getting what he wants, he wants Mary. Mary spent years encasing her heart in ice, becoming an utterly practical but ultimately frigid woman. These two are totally wrong yet so right for each other. I admit I had to wince at some of Sebastian's antics, but then again, that was Sebastian. Ms Dodd couldn't write him - and I wouldn't want him to be - any different.

Clever dialogue, humour, and scorching sensuality. A volatile mix too good to be missed by any romance reader.

Summary: Ooh la la
Review: This is a stellar, steamy read from one of the best romance writers out there. The plot is fun. The characters are quirky and real. And there is a love scene in a corner of a room that, I guarantee you, will peel the polish off your toenails. Bravo, Ms. Dodd! Another winner!

Summary: Mixed feelings
Review: This is the first book I've read by Christina Dodd. Sebastian could have been portrayed much better, I didn't even like him (but I know thats subjective). I wasn't convinced that the pair were in love. The story wasn't ended properly in my eyes because Hadden and Ian's story wasn't reconciled with Sebastian and Guinevere's half (don't want to go into details so as not to spoil anything). Overall, way too many gaps.

The odd thing was that I ended up more excited about what was going to happen to Hadden and Ian rather than Sebastian and Guinevere.

I'm a little disappointed that my first Dodd book gave me such a negative impression but I'll try to read Ian's story (A well favored gentleman), you never know, it might fare better.

Summary: This is the last book by Christina Dodd that I will read.
Review: This is the last book by Christina Dodd that I will read unless I hear for a fact that she has improved her craft back to the excellence of intelligent & entertaining romance that I know she is capable of writing. A WELL PLEASURED LADY is a juvenile romance with a silly story, non-existant humor and shallow characterization. It appears that Ms Dodd's intent is to showcase a few titilating sexual scenes which are as empty as the rest of the book.

Summary: A Well Pleasured Lady by Christina Dodd
Review: This novel earned three stars from me because I managed to finish the book. This being my first 'Dodd' novel to read (after owning many through used book store purchases) gave me the incentive to complete the reading. However, I disliked many of the characters! Many were shallow, self centered, deceitful and witless. Even the hero and heroine were not my favorite characters. I found the heroine annoying, constantly transforming mentally to the housekeeper she physically masquerades behind. The hero was anything but heroic! However, after many bungled attempts to locate an item which the entire book is based upon, the hero and heroine realize their attraction for each other and accept their fate (strategically planned fate of course) of becoming lovers in matrimonial bliss! While Dodd's writing style may not be my personal favorite (being a fan of REAL historical romances), I will indulge myself in reading one of her novels when desiring a change of pace.

Summary: A Well Pleasured Read
Review: What a wonderful book by Christina Dodd! This is the type of book that has you saying at 3:00 a.m. "just one more chapter then I'll go to bed" and before you know it you're trying to fall asleep before the sun comes up. ;)

The book is about a woman who leaves her home because she has murdered a man. She eventually has to return to her home (ten years later) on the arm of Sebastian, pretending to be his fiancee. They have to find a diary that has been stolen.

I loved the hero and heroine in this book and some of the supporting characters were the best I've read in awhile.
