Rating: Summary: A Funny, Well-Written Romantic Read Review: "Baby I'm Yours" is a sizzling book. "Be My Baby" comes close but not quite to recapturing the magic of BIY. Sure, BMB is red-hot, with crackling, snappy, witty repartees that will get everyone chuckling and chortling. However, the pace of BMB is slightly uneven. The heroine is well-fleshed and likeable, but the hero... he may be charming, but frankly, a guy who chases after the dream of bedding every Baby 36DD in New Orleans can't be too mature - I was actually gaping at his silly notions. Luckily just when I was about to give up on him, he turns around and redeems himself. One thing, Susan Andersen is really a wonderful writer. She has it down to pat - great dialogue, realistic atmosphere (one can feel the heat of New Orleans, I tell ya), and a way with plots. Sure, this one has a rather weak suspense plot, but this is, after all, a romance. But the day Susan Andersen decides to join the ranks of suspense writers ala Evanovich, I'm still buying.
Rating: Summary: Susan Andersen is Great! Review: "Be My Baby" is a great book! I had never read anything by Susan Andersen, so I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but this book great. The writing style was easy to follow and Ms. Andersen is able to keep the reader's interest. And what woman wouldn't want a man like Beau Dupree protecting them. "Be My Baby" is great beach or in my case hopital waiting-room read!
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: "Be My Baby" is the first book that I have read by Susan Andersen. It was HOT from beginning to end. I could not put it down. If you like steamy romance you have to read this book.
Rating: Summary: What a Book!! Review: After reading Baby I'm Yours I became a true Susan Anderden fan. Her style is so wonderfully original, that I had to read anything of hers that I could find. When Be My Baby came out I went straight to the store and bought it. I started it that night and finished it the following morning. I adored it!! It was even better than Baby I'm Yours. Juliet and Beau were delightful characters as were the others in the book. Their chemistry is perfect and they complement each other so very well. I love New Orleans, so that the book was set there was another plus. Only the background of N'Awlins could possibly carry off this plot so pefectly. This is by far one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. READ IT, if you haven't already!!!!! Also check out Baby I'm Yours!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Not Andersen's best Review: After receiving a threatening letter, prim and proper Boston heiress Juliet Rose Astor Lowell's father demands that while in New Orleans on business she must have police supervision. Not at all thrilled with his job of babysitting a rich miss, Police Sargeant Beau Dupree does all he can to try to convince Juliet that he isn't the man for the job, the problem is, she's enjoying her visits to the taudy strip clubs and car chases. The Sweet Miss has a yearning for adventure. Juliet and Beau clash like firecrackers but they must stick together after several attempts on Juliet's life. The attraction to eachother is undeniable and eventually the bodyguard and Miss Priss are falling head over heels in love. This is the third book I've read by Ms. Andersen, but the least liked. I loved both Exposure and Baby Be Mine, but this one wasn't as much of a hit. Interesting read though and the New Orleans setting is sure to please.
Rating: Summary: 3 stars because I'm in a generous mood Review: Although I do like the concept of the rich, high-society girl falling for the middle-class alpha male, but book was often unoriginal. The crime plot was ridiculous. Also, the heroine's rigid adherence to etiquette was a bit over the top and unbelievable (it would work if the story were set in the 19th century, but not in the 20th or 21st century). I did enjoy the hero, though, and his honesty about wanting to make up for lost time in his sex life. I also liked the subplot of Luke and Josie. I've always liked a romance story between two people who've known each other a long time and wake up all the sudden to an overwhelming attraction for each other. This book is just "okay," so I'd recommend checking it out of your local library rather than buying it.
Rating: Summary: A lot better than Baby I'm Yours! Review: Can I just say that I don't understand readers that liked BIY better? Personally, I rather thought the characters in BMB a lot better developped as well as the relationship easier to follow. Otherwise, I'd still appreciate if Ms. Andersen invented a hero who doesn't drag his lady around by the arm all the time and treats her without the tiniest bit of respect, which SHE seems to find irresistibly sexy nonetheless... Realism, fine with me, but the modern neolithic male is starting to seriously irritate me. To say it with Elizabeth Lowell's words: Nice doesn't mean spineless
Rating: Summary: Actually a 4 1/2 star book! Review: First of all: I love these kinds of covers. They really catch my eye. Yes, the characters in the book are familiar ones: the prudish heiress, the laid-back cop, but Andersen puts them through their paces very well, embroidering their backgrounds and adding engaging depth to their characters. I found I liked them both enormously. The secondary characters (other than the villains) were also wonderful to read about. The bits of New Orleans that we did get to see (I really wanted to see more but this was a romance, not a travelogue) were not the standard material. The basic writing of the book was not standard, either. It got up and moved; it kept me turning pages. I've found that in romance much of the time, authors who write non-sex well have a hard time writing sex, or vice-versa. This wasn't the case here, and the sexual scenes oozed with real fire. Very nicely done! I'd love to see what Andersen could do with a mainstream novel. Make it in New Orleans -- you've really piqued my interest in the city!
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC! Review: Great writing, fast paced, wonderful ending
Rating: Summary: Where is the plot? Review: Having read all of Susan Andersen's books, I was greatly disappointed in this one. Susan has written great romantic suspense in the past--Exposure, On Thin Ice, Present Danger. All are worth rereading. This one wasn't worth finishing. There is no suspense, no romance, just "cute" sexual byplay. Hot or not, it's not a book I'd recommend.
