Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not one of Susan Johnson better books, but okay Review: "Temporary Mistress" by Susan Johnson is not one of the author's better books, yet it does have good aspects. Among then the lead female character is strong and willing to do anything to help herself. The lead male character is some what dumb, and I'm not sure why any woman would want him. Fans of Ms. Johnson will more than likely not enjoy "Temporary Mistress" but if you are looking for a book to kill sometime, then this might just due.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Psychologically disturbing Review: A perusal of other reviews with a 1-star rating pretty shows that my opinions are widely shared. But I have one thing to add. The so-called hero ridicules and insults one of his servants. This passage does nothing to advance the plot nor does it have anything to do with the storyline. What does the author believe this passage accomplishes other than to make us revile Dermott Ramsy even more? Does the author herself believe it is permissible to behave in this manner? It makes one wonder......

But I have one thing to add and that is the disturbing addition of the hero's ridiculing and insulting one of his servants unnecessarily. Not only does this passage fail to add to the plot in any possible way, it has nothing to do with the storyline. Does the author believe this insight into Dermott's character serves any purpose other than to make us revile him more? Does the author herself believe it is permissible to treat employees in this manner? It does make one wonder.......
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: first time Review: All right, I only read to page 55 or so, so maybe I can't be fair. But the basic premise was just too unbelievable, and I could not get past that. Isabella's relatives (who are way too black-and-white evil, fat, and hammy) try to literally force her into marrying the corpulent cousin in the room where the barrister (whom they flung out the door) read her grandpa's will. Uh...? It's called DON'T DO IT? Last time I checked, nobody could force a "bride" to sign a marriage license. So naturally, instead of going to the police or even the barrister they tossed out, she runs directly into a brothel and, being a virgin naturally, agrees to ruin her reputation by becoming a mistress. Hello! DIMWIT ALERT! And, of course, she has no connections or friends, merely being the granddaughter of some rich guy. I just lost all respect for her, and could not suspend disbelief. I gave up when I read about the hero being London's most notorious rake. Someone else wrote that this has been done to death. S. Johnson is a great writer; I just don't see how this harebrained concept even got past the rough draft stage.

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Another good Susan Johnson book!! Review: Although not quite as steamy as other Johnson books - for me this was still a very good romantic read. I like Isebella and Dermott as a couple - thought the chemistry was good. Always love the hero to have a tortured past and loosing your wife and son certainly make Dermott that kind of brooding rouge. I think the only thing missing was some of the steaminess we come to look for in Johnson books! I would totally recommend this novel!!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Getting Better Review: But still hasn't reached the level of erotic romance that she achieved in her Braddock-Black series. I was beginning to despair of ever reading another of the author's novels that didn't resort to an overabundance of obscenity and purposeless sex, without a viable and entertaining plot to hold it all together. In Temporary Mistress, we have less obscenity, but the love scenes are like tepid bath water and the plot, while not completely without interest, is kind of blah. We have Isabella Leslie, newly made heierss, attempting to elude her hideous relatives who have visions of golden eggs with Isabella being the goose. All they have to do is force her into marrying her cousin, something Isabella rebels against. She races headlong into the night, knocking on the first 'friendly' door. Molly Crocker, the good-hearted madam behind the door, takes Isabella in, listens to her tale of woe and offers a suggestion. I found Isabella's ready acceptance a bit hard to believe and the suggestion involves spending a week in the company of Dermott Ramsay, Earl of Bathurst, known womanizer and rake, in order to so sully her reputation that her relatives would no longer want her. What follows was, to me, at times a bit hard to believe and at other times predictable. Isabelle take to Molly's tutoring of the sexual arts like a duck to water and Dermott take full advantage, adding his own unique spin in a series of love scenes so toned down they were almost sweet. It will be interesting to see how all this translates into the author's next release; if she can once again weave an erotic romance in the vein of Blaze, Silver Flame and Forbidden.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: We need a romance-novel rating system Review: Darn--I picked up this Susan Johnson book by accident, and sure enough, it became quickly cold-blooded and obscene. Wish I could get my money back--sometimes I read the jacket copy and don't pay attention to the author's name, and the jacket copy sounded interesting enough. I also wish that there was some system for these no-talent erotica writers like Johnson not to be able to fool a buyer into expecting a REAL romance, where there's an entertaining plot of interesting characters that you might actually CARE about. Susie-Q got her education reading bathroom walls, I suppose.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Dry Review: Dry best describes this one from Susan Johnson. It's not often I pick up a book and I'm not able to immediately gain a sympathetic insight into the characters and their plights. Like a good soap opera, I expected to ride the tides of trials and tribulation along with the main characters. That didn't happen here. In the end Isabella (or whatever her name is) comes off as a ..... waiting to happen. Dermott is first displayed as a man of depth, but in the end he's wooed by a piece of #$#@$...that has nothing special about it.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wow! Review: How could anyone rate Temporary Mistress less than 5 stars? Susan Johnson provides a much needed contrast to the typical scared little virgin heroine. Her characters know what they want and are much more realistic for today's reader. Temporary Mistress is the second Susan Johnson book that i read, and i was hooked. i highly recommend this novel, especially for those looking to understand their desires....
