Rating: Summary: another sweet kurland book Review: One of my favorite books of all time is Lynn Kurland's This is All I Ask. One of my least favorite books ever is Kurland's Another Chance to Dream. While The More I See You doesn't match the poignancy and feeling of the former, it (thankfully) doesn't drown the reader in bleakness like the latter, and I found it an enjoyable read, with lots of wit and tender moments. Jessica Blakely is a successful composer and musician who yearns for the magic of love. At the moment, unfortunately, she is stuck in England, wearing medieval clothes for a party at a castle, and accompanied by a dull suitor who wants to be her knight in shining armor. Literally. Wishing upon a star to find her a man who loves her, Jessica's walk around the castle lands her in the 13th century, startling both her and the party of men who want the "fairie" dead on the spot. One of the men is Richard de Galtres, a dark and brooding knight who saves Jessica from the rest of the group. Despite Jessica's strange accent and speech, the men end up believing that she is related to the King. They think she is babbling incoherently because she hit her head when she fainted, so they take her back to Burwyck-on-the-Sea, Richard's ancestral home. Once there, Jessica and Richard begin to get on each other's nerves, and much to their respective dismay, a mutual attraction begins to grow. While Jessica adjusts to life without 20th-century comforts, she begins to appreciate the man hidden underneath Richard's gruff exterior; the discoveries she makes about his past help put some of the pieces of the puzzle together, and she finds herself yearning for a mere smile from him. For Richard, the endlessly annoying woman who claims to be from another time becomes a necessity to him, which he realizes when he nearly loses her to a traitor's blade. As he tries desperately to close her wound with a red-hot knife, the only way to take Jessica's mind off the pain is to distract her with the betrothal ceremony. Although this results in the couple's being bound by law, they are nonetheless unsure of the other's feelings. There is a lot of humor in this book. Jessica starts off unwilling to compromise on her notions of modern behavior and can get a little too cutesy with her American slang, but she means well, and in the end, she gets exactly what she deserves: A man who adores her, even though he might not understand everything about her. Richard, could have been your typical, brooding, tortured hero. Instead he is a likeable wounded soul - Kurland can write those like few authors can - and he very slowly and very carefully begins to accept that this is the woman who has conquered his heart. Characters from other Kurland books make their appearance here, one even meets his demise, but if you've read Stardust of Yesterday, you know that everything turns out well in the end - I only wish Richard and Jessica had known as well. If you're in the mood for a (mostly) light read with lots of humor, you might want to try The More I See You.
Rating: Summary: Somewhere in Time Review: The author really tugged at my heart with this story. You were laughing one minute and sobbing the next. If you liked the movie "Somewhere in Time" you will love this book. I can't really tell you much of the story without giving it away, so I wont tell you anything at all. Enjoy!!
Rating: Summary: He is wonderful! Review: The hero of this book is Richard de Gaultres. Rough, cynical and where can I find him. Too often I wonder just what it is that the characters in a novel see in each other. Richard is not cosmic perfection. He's scarred both physically and psychologicly. He hides in "serious medievalness" sometimes and he is worth all the effort the heroine Jessica make. Richard is on par with other ultimate alpha males like Lindsey's Malorys or McNaught's Jason Fielding or Jordan Townsende. I think I'll go read it again!
Rating: Summary: A great time travel that keeps the reader interested. Review: The story: Jessica Blakely, Composer-In-Residence, at a prestigious university appears to have it all. What she really wants is a "fair and gallant knight" to save her from the rude and pompous blind date she is stuck in Englad with and trying to avoid. After a medieval costume party she is walking in the garden and wishes on a star from her dream man. Next thing she knows she is about to be trampled by horse in front a castle, in 1268! Richard De Galtres sees the strange woman standing in the road gaping at the hunting party and picks her up onto his horse. Soon he finds himself saving her from his brother that thinks she is an evil "faerie." He takes Jessica to his castle, and despite vowing to avoid her, he finds himself drawn to her strange speech, absurd views on men and women, and her incredible designs for his new Hall. Jessica and Richard fall in love, but is love enough to keep them together as the hands of time try to tear them apart? I really enjoyed this book. Richard tries to be the typical Medieval Chauvinist man but deep down he is a wonderful man with a souled that is scarred and craving love and tenderness. Jessica is a liberated Modern woman that really just wants an honest, caring man to take care of and have a family with. They fit together perfectly, and the supporting characters are very entertaining. There is John, the captain of the guards that must help Jessica save Richard when he falls ill, and knows all of Richards secrets. Hamlet, a guard, that teaches the garrison love poems, dancing, and how to woo women. Abigail, a strange woman that Jessica meets that stares at her like she is a ghost. All these mix together to form a beautiful story. The love scenes and violence are moderate to mild. I would say this is another, MUST READ. Rating: Summary: The More I See You Review: This author is a master at creating Time Travel Romance. As a matter of fact, when I misplaced my copy (after having read it)I was determined that I would like to read another of Lynn Kurland's novels. Obsessed with the desire to have a few more enjoyable hours, I searched the internet for an hour before I found it.High interest, unique plot, and fine characters make this a great read.
Rating: Summary: Good Review: This book is great. The plot's cool, and the characters are fascinating. This is one of the few books where you can understand why a certain character did what he did, even if that specific action wasn't really smart. I also like the part where the leading guy, Richard, is forced to accept that women are just as intelligent as men are. But I did pity Jessica's mother. It was, in a way, a bittersweet ending because her mom knew that her daughter was happy, and that she wouldn't see her again for the rest of her life.
Rating: Summary: Can't stop re-reading it! Review: This book was one of the first books I ever read. I'm only 15 but I can still see how wonderful this book is. I just got into reading books and Lynn Kurland is one of my favorite authors now, and I have not yet come across one of her books that I did not want to read more than once. This one is so good, I didn't even want to let my friend borrow it to read, just in case I wanted to reach over, grab it, and read it all over again. It's amazing plot. Starts strong, and ends the same way. If you love romance, this book is for you.
Rating: Summary: A Great book! Review: this is my first book of Lynn Kurland...and I loved it! come and meet Jessica and Richard :) a great book to read! i am looking forward to read more of her books =)
Rating: Summary: My favorite! Review: This is not only one of my favorite Lynn Kurland novels, right up there with "Stardust of Yesterday," but one of my favorite romances in general. Good characterization, a strong plot, plenty of romance and excellent writing make for a very good read.
Rating: Summary: MESMORIZING, BEAUTIFUL, A LASTING IMPRESSION! Review: This is the first book I have ever purchased by Ms. Kurland and quite frankly, I couldn't put it down! I was captured instantly by the bright, beautiful, and bold Jessica Blakely and intrigued by the harsh Richard de Galtres. The characters were so beautifully woven into a complex and thoughtful plot, full of surprises, laughter, and tears. The twist from the very beginning involving time travel really hit the mark on my romance factor. All of us, at some time, wish to escape...all of us at some point wish for a man with chivalry. This is possibly the best book I have read in a very long time. Excellent job, Ms. Kurland!
