Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: Morgan Da Silva is a would be screenwriter, living in a house in Maine. She finds some old diaries of a man who thinks that he is a vampire and becomes obsessed as well as wealthy. His story is the basis of a series of movies that make her rich and famous. But is Dante a real person and is he really a vampire? This is a good premise and should be enough for a novel, the subplot with the long lost twin sister and the secret paranormal CIA division are really not necessary. I enjoyed the book, but it really should have been two separate stories instead of one.
Rating: Summary: Return to Twilight, somewhat disappointing Review: Morgan de Silva, poor little once-rich girl, has slunk away to the run-down old mansion belonging to a family friend to try to pull her life together. Her dream is to make it as a scriptwriter, and she even has a fast-track route to success if she can produce a script, except she's no good at it. After six months, her screen is still blank... until she stumbles on a set of journals, written by a man called Dante, who lived 150 years ago and believed that he was a vampire. Reading the journals, Morgan finds herself transported into Dante's mind, and his life plays out for her in her head... and also on her computer screen. Five years later, she's written three vampire movies, all about Dante's life and based on the journals of what she assumes was a long-dead fantasist. Meanwhile, in White Plains, Maxine Stuart, a conspiracy theorist, stumbled on the secrets of DPI the night their headquarters was destroyed (this book is a sequel to Shayne's earlier Born in Twilight). After a vampire strikes, killing a woman, Maxine makes the connection between a vampire called Dante whose details are on a CD-Rom she stole and the Dante of Morgan de Silva's films. She and her close friend Lou, a police officer, realise that they need to speak to Morgan, and set off to find her, not realising that they're already one step behind a rogue DPI agent, Frank Stiles. Meanwhile, Dante is alive and well, and he's after Morgan to find out how she found out his secrets and why she betrayed him. Instead, though, he finds himself drawn to her - she is, after all, one of the Chosen, and she's dying... Like other reviewers, I didn't enjoy this book as much as others in Shayne's series. Morgan was quite self-indulged and didn't have the same sparkiness as Shayne's other heroines - or even as Maxine, who I liked much better than Morgan. It feels to me as if Shayne liked Maxine more too. But it is Morgan, of course, to whom Dante is drawn. The vampires in this book aren't as appealing as Shayne's previous characters - I really missed Eric et al. Dante is darker, more violent, hurting people in a way that Damien, Rhiannon, Roland, Jameson and the others would never have. And as for Sarafina, if we were supposed to feel any sympathy for her, it didn't work. The most interesting characters in Twilight Hunger were Maxine and Lou (and Lou is 18 years older than Maxine, not 20 as another reviewer said). The disappointing part of this sub-plot is that their story was left unfinished. Shayne also seems to have changed some of her vampire 'mythology' between earlier books and this; potential transformees' state of health was never an issue previously, for instance with Shannon or Ramsay. And finally, the very convenient relationship between Morgan and Maxine - which was spoiled for me by several reviews here, especially since it isn't explained until close to the end of the book - was really too coincidental to believe. It wasn't even necessary to the book and would have been better left out. All in all, far from the best of Shayne's series, and in some ways hardly feels like part of the series, but worth reading if you're a fan of the series as a whole. Three stars for Maxine and Lou; really only two for Dante and Morgan.
Rating: Summary: Worst of the series Review: Ms. Shayne begins the book by thanking someone for encouraging this novel. But in truth, Ms. Shayne should smack that person. The novel begins with the main character finding Dante's diaries and believing they are works of fiction. She revises these novels into screenplays and eventually makes blockbuster movies. The story is much longer than I have defined and has winning moments but it is plagued with trying to do too much. Ms. Shayne was obviously trying to create another series from this novel and so there are more charcters than probably need to be. There is too little character development of the 'right'charcters, main characters, and too much development of sub-characters. If you are a loyal fan of this genre you might enjoy this book. If you are a fan of Ms. Shayne, as I am, you will probably be a little disappointed.

Rating: Summary: This book sent me on a frenzy for her backlist!! Review: Suffering from a rare blood disease, Morgan D'Silva has set goals for herself that she wants to hit quickly. The adopted daughter of a famous screen writer and renowned actress, she has always dreamed of being a screen writer herself. Yet tragedy has recently struck her adopted family, and not only did she lose her parents, she lost everything she knew and was familiar with because of the enormous debts they had accrued. Not knowing exactly where to start, she takes an offer from a close family friend to stay in a recently purchased older home. Little does she know she'll not only find her inspiration here, but the love she thought she'd never have. The vampire,Dante had never had a problem before hiding in open sight. But suddenly it is like the world in general, and a particular bunch of vampire hunters specifically, know every move he is going to make. They've found all his hideouts, know all of his secrets. How could this be?? No one knew these things. Fleeing yet another attempt on his undead life, he retreats to a home that he had owned a hundred years before. He is shocked to see that it has been totally restored to the way it was when he lived there, almost down to the last detail. He is even more shocked to see the human mortal woman who lives there, Morgan, and discover that she is one of "the chosen". For only the chosen are able to be changed into vampires and survive. She was his for the taking....And she was calling to HIM in the night. Dante. How? How could she know his name? And that this was once his home? Dante soon finds that Morgan knows everything about him...secrets from hundreds of years past. He has to discover how she knows, and who she has told. Could she be the traitor who has turned the vampire hunters on him?? Maggie Shayne has created an incredible story of intrigue, the paranormal, and love story that is to 'die' for. Her characters are so true to life personality, strength and weakness wise, that we can totally relate to them. She made me cringe at some of the things the vampire, Dante, did, while at the same time sympathizing and falling in love with him. She interweaves a secondary story line that will shock you, and pulls it off beautifully without taking away from Dante and Morgan's story. If you're a fan of vampires, you don't want to miss this read!! TWILIGHT HUNTER is a stand alone story, one you'll fall in love with, but is also tied to a series of books by Maggie Shayne, her WINGS IN THE NIGHT series. I had never read them before, and must tell you, this reviewer is on a book hunt for her backlist!!
Rating: Summary: It didn't satiated my hunger... Review: The beginning was a bit weak if a bit confusing with the author throwing in too many characters and plots. Morgan's obsessive and compulsive behavior was a bit hard to swallow at times. Dante's character was okay, but I didn't find him compelling. The whole twin-separate-at-birth and suddenly-found-mother looked kind of forced, as if the author didn't know what else to put in order to "thicken" the plot. I found the subplot with Maxine (Morgan's twin sister) and Lou much more interesting!
Rating: Summary: Shayne is STILL on track REGARDLESS!! Review: There are those that whine there isn't enough romance, that there was no need for the subplot and added characters. DON'T TAKE IT AS GOSPEL!! If you've read "Wings In The Night" then you'll be thrilled with "Twilight Hunger". Those that have followed and appreciated Maggie Shayne's series will without a doubt understand the need for the subplot and characters as I have a feeling we will be reading more about them in the future. Still the same romance, still the same otherworldly charm, still the same Shayne dedication to telling a great vampire tale. It isn't necessary to read the previous books in the series, but it would help. And, if this is your first venture into the world of vampire romance, it most certainly won't be your last. Either way you're in for a spellbinding read and that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: how sexy! Review: This book was oh so sensual! Dante was what dreams were made of. Dark, mysterious, sensual & passionate! The book was tintilating & pleasing. Morgan & Dante discover eachother & sort of need eachother.
I got mad when everybody started butting in to the picture. I really wanted them to stay together! I'll let you find out if they do.
Rating: Summary: a great read Review: This book was so good, so romantic. I could not put it down.
Rating: Summary: A great modern vampire story Review: This was a very enjoyable book that had me hooked from the start.
