Summary: The fourth and last book in the Velvet Series!
Review: "Velvet Angel" is the fourth and last book of the 'Velvet' series.

This is the story of Gavin, Stephen and Raine's baby brother, Miles who falls in love with the enemy...Elizabeth Chatworth... and she hates him for being a Montgomery... Miles' only flaw is that she's related to the hated Roger Chatsworth... but he overlooks it with her beauty...

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not as good as the first two!
Review: After reading "Velvet Promise" and "Highland Velvet", I must say that I was disappointed by this book. Miles was a great hero, but Elizabeth was just so annoying.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: You've gotta love those Montgomery brothers...
Review: All I can say is that Deveraux does not disappoint with her conclusion to the "Velvet" series. This last book deals with the youngest brother, Miles. This book was very interesting from the get go as we finally get to know Miles, who's been a bit of an enigma for the first three books. My impression of him in the earlier books was of a smooth womanizer. Through his relationship with Elizabeth we see another side to him that even his brothers are unaware of. In addition to telling us the story of Miles and Elizabeth, Deveraux nicely ties-up some loose ends from the previous three novels. We get a glimpse at what the future holds for each of the four brothers and the women they married. A great wrap-up to a strong series.

Summary: Somewhat disappointing finish to a great series
Review: But read it anyway - Miles is fascinating! If you've read any, or all, of the "Velvet" series and want to know about baby brother Miles, you'll need to read this. The first 2/3 of the book rates 5 stars - but the last portion falls flat. As for the good part - we finally get to know Miles, who's been a bit of an enigma for the first three books. He's actually very young (I believe about 20) but complex. My impression of him in the previous three books was that of a really smooth womanizer, with not much else to recommend him. Well, apparently, he is/was quite a womanizer, but that's his major (not fatal) flaw - just as his three brothers have flaws. He's not a bad guy - in many ways, he's nicer to Elizabeth than the others have been to their eventual wives. Elizabeth is not a simpering whiner (in my opinion) - she's pretty feisty and has a wonderfully soft heart, for someone who's had a crappy life. (Judith - book 1 - was abused by her dad too, but at least she had a mom to protect her.) Of course, the love story is just as passionate as you'd expect it to be, and the first part of the book features strong writing and story-telling. But things just derail at the end. I don't object to how she wraps the story up - in fact, I think the concept is excellent (I won't give it all away - but the women save the day). She just needed to take about 100 more pages to carry off the complex ending. In the process Miles strong personality just evaporates. And there's the very, very bizarre subplot (which plays a major role in setting up the finale) of Roger Chatsworth (yes, of the evil Chatsworths - Elizabeth is one too) and a woman. I actually welcomed an attempt to bring redemption to Roger, but it just doesn't work - it's almost creepy. The author did add a cute epilogue that lets you know how almost everyone turns out (no word on Jocelyn from "Velvet Promise" and "Velvet Song" or that nice Alan Fairfax who ended up helping Judith and Gavin in "Velvet Promise" - we'll assume they lived happily ever after!) Ultimately - read this to wrap the series up, but it's not as strong as the others.

Summary: Another velvet? Terrific!
Review: Elizabeth and Miles. Enemies. What happens when you mix the two of them together? Plenty! You just have to read to find out

Summary: A great closure to the 'Velvet' series....
Review: Elizabeth Chatworth has spent her life protecting herself from men. When she started to grow into her body, her older brother thought it was funny to torture her and bet her virginity while playing games with his friends. For years she had to put up with his abuse when he brought her home from the convent to torture for his amusement. Eventually she learned how to protect herself, with weapons and words. She never lets a man touch her without inflicting pain, nor does she leave herself vunerable to attack by walking in front of a man. Then she meets Miles Montgomery and everything she's believed about men changes.

Miles is astounded when he is delievered this golden goddess stark naked in a rug. He is even more startled by her obvious hatred of him as a man. He could understand why she wouldn't like him as a Montgomery, as their families are involved in a blood feud, but that she would be repulsed by him as a man confuses Miles to no end. He soon learns that underneath her hatred lies fear and he decides that he will go to whatever lengths to conquer her of that fear. What he didn't plan on was falling for her himself.

The story of Elizabeth and Miles is breathtaking. Elizabeth learns to overcome her fear with Miles' help. In Scotland she overcomes her fear of all men and is very grateful to Miles to unapologetically takes advantage of that fact. The only problem they have is their feuding families, which comes to be resolved nicely at the end. Deveraux brings back all the characters from the Velvet series for a very satisfying ending!

Happy reading!

Summary: Captivating all the way to the last word.
Review: I fell in love with this book immediately. I cried when the two were seperated. I was so enchanted by the appearances of the Montgomery brothers throughout the novel. I love the ending when all the Montgomrys come together with their wives to save their captured brother. I immediately went out and bought the rest of the series.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I have read a few JD books since the beginning of the year and I have really loved some of the others such as the Heiress and the Raider but I found Velvet Angel rather disappointing. I didn't like Elizabeth and I thought that Miles must have been a real "goer" to have had already 3 children at the tender age of 20! I suppose they didn't have contraception in those days. Still it's not very romantic to read that the hero has so many children running around already even before he has met the heroine! I didn't think much of the plot either.

Summary: Montgomery adventures
Review: I loved this book! It has drama, romance and comedy. This was well written. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting Miles Montgomery and Elizabeth Chatworth. Velvet Angel introduces Brian & Roger Chatworths sister to us. We get a glimpse at what her childhood and how she overcomes here biggest fear....men! Miles shows her that not all men are pigs. He leads her to the truth and lets Elizabeth make her own decisions about the family she loves. If I talk too much about this book I may give away the plot or the ending. As with any Deveraux I have read you will not be disappointed. If you loved Highland Velvet you will love this book. Give it a read!
