Rating: Summary: They crawl and night, and sometimes even in the day. . . Review: Wow! This book is awesome. Emma calls it "Lady Hawk with teeth." The plague forced a 10-year-old girl from her mother and baby brother, out into the nearby forest away from the village. She is alone, frightened, and destined to die when two upyr find her. They argue over her and it is decided she will go live in the wild with the male upyr. An upyr is somewhat different than your everyday vampire (at least as Anne Rice portrays them) in that they are able to shape-shift with a creature whose soul they are drawn to. Upyr is the Croatian/Russian version of a vampire, but they do more than just drink blood. They can withstand the sun and appear more human, from what I understand. Anyway, this historical, romantic world entices and delights. Mysticism, magic and love enchants the readers as well as the characters. A fun read and highly recommended!
