Summary: You won't be disappointed!!
Review: I think that this is by far LaVyrle Spencer's best book. The story is wonderful and it touches everyone. Elly and Will are misfits that find joy with each other. When Will is accused of a terrible crime, you have to see if Elly and Will's love for each other is strong enough for them to overcome it. Everyone can relate to the characters. Elly is known as "Crazy Elly Dinsmore" and she was always teased as a child. The reader might see themself because they were a child that was teased or they might remember the Elly Dinsmore's that they knew. This book is exceptionally well written and longer than some of Spencer's other books, which is a definite plus. This is a novel that you would definitly want to have a sequel. Read it and find yourself. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Heartwarming!
Review: This audio book recording of Lavyrle Spencer's Morning Glory read by actress Deborah Raffin is fantastic, she did a wonderful job reading it. Morning Glory is a wonderful, sweet and inspirational story about a woman named Elly who because of her crazy grandparents and their bad treatment of her when she was a child the towns people think she's crazy too. She is a widow with two sons and one baby on the way, she needs help on her farm and she places a classified ad for a husband, a drifter named Will who has also been treated very badly throughout his life arrives in her small Georgia town and sees her ad and decides to answer it and so begins a truly heartwarming story that will have you smiling, laughing and crying. You might want to have a box of Kleenex handy! This audio recording of Morning Glory is read by Deborah Raffin who played Elly in the movie that also stars Christopher Reeve as Will. I highly recommend this audio book I enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought the book and hope to read it soon.

Summary: Spencer does it again...(4 1/2 stars)
Review: It always amazes me how consistently brilliant Lavyrle Spencer is. Even if Im not crazy about all of her books, there is no arguing that the woman can write.... "Morning Glory" is a perfect example of Spencer's enormous talent for making the characters and the scenery enveloping them leap to life. "Morning Glory" was a heartwarming tale of Will and Elly- two lost souls who had known little happiness in their lives, but who found love in eachother. I LOVED this book. I thought that the characters growth was a wonder to watch and I enjoyed every moment. My only quibble with this book was that I felt that there wasn't enough romantic tension...Elly and Will proclaimed their love too early on for my taste, but regardless the story was enthralling. All in all a fantastic read...

Summary: a very touching story
Review: This is the first Spencer book I read, about ten years ago. I still read it about once a year and enjoy it every time. Each of the characters blends into the story well. I don't usually cry or laugh when I read novels but this was an exception. I could feel the heartache each time Will and Elly said good-bye during the war, and the emotional pain that Will brought home with him. I laughed out loud while I read the court scene near the end, especially at the two old guys, Nat and Norris. All through the book I wondered what role those two would play, and I was not disappointed. The only complaint I have is the same one I have with many Lavyrle Spencer books - I always think she ends the story too soon, and I'm always left to wonder what happened to the characters. I guess I just have to imagine that Will and Elly lived happily ever after. I wish she would come out of retirement to write sequels to Morning Glory, Bittersweet, and Separate Beds. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story with a happy ending.

Summary: Morning Glory, by LaVyrle Spencer
Review: MORNING GLORY is set in the 1940s and is the story of "Crazy" Elly Dinsmore, raised by religious fanatics and teased and tormented by everyone in town; and Will Parker, an ex-con trying to put his life back together. Elly is a young, pregnant widow who, when she finds she can't make ends meet, puts an ad for a husband in the local paper. Will sees the ad and applies for the job. As Will begins making repairs and improvements to Elly's property, their attraction to each other grows. World War Two intervenes, and Will is called up for service, but he and Elly write to each other frequently, and manage a visit when Will has leave.

Shortly after Will comes home from the war, he is accused of murdering the local floozy, and Elly must overcome her personal demons in order to help with Will's trial. How the two misfits find each other and their place in their community is a deeply engrossing story. Spencer excels at emotional writing, and in this book, she outdoes herself with her secondary characters, especially Gladys Beasley, the town librarian, who strikes up an incongruous friendship with Will. This book has everything: romance, humor, pathos, mystery, and history. This is my personal favorite of LaVyrle's books, and it has held up to several repeat readings.

Summary: One of my ALL TIME favorites!!!
Review: I, too, won't go into the story since so many have already. Great romance with a great story line. You can't help but feel for the characters. The setting is during WWII. Will has just gotten out of prison for a causing death to a woman that was an accident but was charged with murder. He just wants to settle down in a community where he can forget his past and move on with life- but the past seems to constantly follow him, causing him to move from community to community. Will has such a sweet caring heart but needs someone to give hime a chance and believe in him. Elly has been the talk of the community all her life due to her grandparents religious believes and family tragedy. She is a pregnant widow with two little boys to raise and no one to fall back on. She is a "plain-jane" with an inner beauty that needs someone to care and nurture. Elly has to really work at feeling secure. They find out that they both need each other in different ways. It is during a time when life was hard and a lot simpler- when people reached out to one another. A wonderful story that you won't be able to put down and it has a little bit of everything in it. You won't be disappointed, promise!!!

Review: I, too, won't go into the story since so many have already. Great romance with a great story line. You can't help but feel for the characters. Will had such a sweet caring heart but someone to believe in him. It felt good to find a story where the herione isn't gorgeous- but yet a rather plain girl with a inner beauty that needed someone to care. Elly had to really work at feeling secure. They both needed each other in different ways. I have always been interested in the 1930's, 40's, & 50's since that was when my parents grew up, dated and married. Times were difficult but a lot simpler then and people reached out to one another. A wonderful story that you won't be able to put down and it has a little bit of everything in it. You won't be disappointed, promise!!! I bought the book for my personal library. Don't pass this one up. So far it's my LS favorite!
