Rating: Summary: New story line.... very decent Review: Ever read about selkies? Well, this is a in depth look at them. I loved it! This was so unlike anything I've read by Christine Dodd. It didn't even sound like the same author I have read before. I'll have to say though that I like it better than any of her others; it had a much better plot. The love story was both fun & heart-wrenching at the end. Both the hero & heroine are just wonderful. Well, our hero could be called just a little domineering - in fact, I think our heroine might have been justified in knocking him in the head with something heavy a time or two! lol However, CD did a terrific job of making me fall head-over-heels for him anyway... lol I really enjoyed this one.

Rating: Summary: Outstanding Magical Story Review: For those of you who like a little fantasy and magic thrown in with some VERY hot and sensually stimulating love scenes - then look no further - this has to be the one.He is Ian Fairchild, darkly handsome and tortured with secrets he does not want revealed. Ian is summoned home to Fionnaway by his dying father that despises him. He is led to believe that once his father dies Fionnaway would be his - just one of the many lies his father Leslie Fairchild (truly a despicable waste of human flesh)tells him. She is Lady Alanna - the beautiful and mysterious mistriss of Fionnaway who disappeared 4 years prior and waits to come back to reclaim her heritage. Ian desperately wants Fionnaway as well and will use whatever tricks he has to to gain the home that he has never had his entire life. There is a lot of intrigue, magic, and legends that the story evolves around - it is simply wonderful and you will no doubt not be able put it down once you have started it. I absolutely sobbed BIG tears at the end... Loved it and will definitely read it over again. This had some of the most exquisitely beautiful love scenes - with WORDS - that I have not seen in some time. A rare treat for the hopeless romantic - I was well and truly touched!
Rating: Summary: Selkie man meets witch woman and sparks fly! Review: I have a problem with romances in which the hero rapes the heroine, especially when she is asleep. We've come a long way, baby, and we don't need this. Dodd's fantasy romance, set in Scotland, also suffers from an excess of plot. Disappointing effort from someone who's written better.
Rating: Summary: One of the best paranormal/supernaturals I've ever read Review: I LOVED this book and (...) it had no beastiality kink whatsoever. The hero is a part of a mythical creature called a selkie--a half person, half seal/merperson. The hero at no time had scales, a fin or smooth leathery skin like a seal. He also had legs, arms, eyes--the human works, he was not an animal and I thought Ms. Dodd did a great job of pointing this out. If you're a person who enjoys fantasy romances and has an open-mind, you'll probably like this. I think this is an extremely romantic story and the ending was superb. This isn't just another book about vampires and wolves and witches. Both the characters and the plot were supremely orginal. In fact, the foremost thing I look for in a book is orginality. The same-old is just boring and just makes me roll my eyes. I commend Ms. Dodd on her orginality and the quality of her writing. If you like fantasy/paranormal/supernatural/whatever romances then I highly recommend this book and if you do give it a shot, I hope you like it as much as I did.
Rating: Summary: Sexy & Sensual Review: I loved this book! Thank you Ms. Dodd :) She writes with a very sensual feel. I found the story quite exotic and I loved the way she weaved the scottish legends and pacts into the story. This story was definately hot! I read it in 1 1/2 days!
Rating: Summary: Avoid this one Review: I picked this one up because I read Ms. Dodd's Once a Knight and loved it. This is one of the worst books I have ever read. I think relations between species are disgusting, and this book of selkie love is no exception. I avoided Ms. Dodd's other books for years because of this novel. The hero, a tormented soul who is conflicted with his half-seal nature, is unsympathetic as a character, unless you feel sorry for his being trapped in such an abyssmal story. The heroine is a typical beloved misfortuned girl who has no qualms about hooking up with a seal. I do not think that beastiality has any place in a romance novel, and this one was especially terrible. The external conflict was flimsy and ridiculous. I have since given Ms Dodd another try and am delighted by her other stories. Maybe she had a deadline to meet and a serious case of writer's block. We all make mistakes. Read That Scandalous Evening (could not put it down)or Once a Knight (a keeper) to see Ms. Dodd's flawless storytelling capabilities. "Gentleman" is not indicative her true talent.
Rating: Summary: A FABULOUS BOOK!!!! Review: I read a lot of historical romances, and A Well Favored Gentleman is going straight onto my keeper shelf. I loved the humor! The love scenes! The hero, Ian, is so fascinating and different...but I don't want to give away his secret. :) And the heroine, Alanna, is delightfully spirited. I'll definitely recommend this book to all my friends. Christina Dodd is an author whose books I'll always buy.
Rating: Summary: Dodd has changed the way I choose romance novels Review: I read my first "steamy" romances in the 70's, grew bored with the purple prose, and have been skimming them occasionally for "the good parts" when in need of some brainless entertainment. Then I began reading these reviews and found that there's actually some great reading in this genre. Christina Dodd would be worth reading even if she didn't have such a talent for writing hot sex scenes. That would be a waste of a rare talent, though. In so many other novels in this category, sexual tension between the main characters builds until they finally "give in" to their attraction, and after the climactic moment the sex becomes repetitive and the tension fades. Somehow, Christina Dodd manages to sustain the chemistry from beginning to end. It makes a difference that her characters have depth; sex is always new between two people who haven't fully discovered themselves, much less each other. Additionally Dodd and Judith Ivory are among the only romance authors I've read who can deliver laughs without disrupting the sexual suspense - perhaps because they are also able to reveal their characters' weaknesses without making them weak. I'm reading Christina Dodd "backwards," having exhausted all of her newer books, and I thoroughly enjoyed "Gentleman." FYI, he ain't no gentleman. He's a selfish s.o.b. just as he was as a secondary character in the book preceding this one, "A Well-Pleasured Lady." Plenty of room for personal growth, which happens gradually and believably without reducing one iota of his Alpha Male appeal. Bravo. I agree with the editorial reviewer who said, "Read anything by Christina Dodd."
Rating: Summary: Dreamy Read! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed Ian's control of Alanna's dreams to complete his intimate torture! I wish someone would invade my dreams that way! While the mystic stones and sea creatures might be hard for some to swallow, I found it harder to believe that Alanna could hide herself as the village witch for years, but I didn't let that stop me from enjoying this romance that had a splendid ending that left me crying.
