Rating: Summary: Just not a Johanna! Review: I was so dissapointed with this book! I am a huge Lindsey fan, having read and enjoyed all of her previous books. But I am noticing with her last few, she is losing steam. This one wasn't even worth the time it took me to read. Sorry Johanna, I think you need to go back to square one and re-read some of your earlier books! Melissa is a wimp, and so is her hero Lincoln! The 16 Uncles were getting on my nerves, and her father and mother bored me with their own story, and continued to do so here!
Rating: Summary: The WORST book ever Review: This is the worst book i've ever read. Don't waste your money on this book. Even though, the book is bad, it's overpriced too.
Rating: Summary: dull and boring Review: Terribly pedestrian-not a pursuit, more of a plod. not one of her best. It goes on forever, and there is no sizzling tension whatsoever. It is the equivalent of a paint-by-numbers picture compared to a priceless masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: DONT READ THIS BOOK Review: Ok I must say that I love Johanna Lindesy's books, however her newer ones lack the flare I think they should have. The whole situation with this book is the 16 uncles hold a grudge against Lincoln because of something he did when he was 10... 10 for the love of it all. This book has no flare and I wouldn't advise anyone to waste there money or time on this book. The only reason I can come up with as to why this book was published in the first place is bacause it is by Johanna Lindsey. This book could have been better and I know Johanna Lindsey can do better then this.
Rating: Summary: Either JL did not write this or she needs a rest! Review: I have been a long time fan of Ms. Lindsey and has read ALL of her books. I must say the best ones are the first ones. Lately the books have been mediocre. I have been thinking along the lines of maybe she's not writing them anymore to "her books are getting bad lately". I was not surprised when I happen to see several reviews of The Pursuit and found my sentiments mirrored by other fans and readers of Ms. Lindsey. I long for the humor and shining characters of her old books.
Rating: Summary: The Pursuit Review: I usually like to start my reviews with a brief description of the books plot without telling too much of the story. With The Pursuit I find this extremely difficult to do. Basically the story is about a man, Lincoln, who has found the girl he wants to marry and has to fight off her sixteen uncles and persuade her parents he's not crazy. Basically that's the whole book.I found this book extremely difficult to read. There is a lot of Scottish brouge or "burr" as it's referred to. This makes every conversation hard to read because usually one of the participants is from Scotland. I've read other Lindsey novels and even though she puts some Scottish dialect in her books it's not as bad as The Pursuit. Adding to the language issue is the sixteen uncles, six of which are named Ian. They are referred to as Ian One, Ian Two, and so on. I just found this really aggravating trying to read the novel and trying to keep the Ians straight. I also found this story to be kind of drawn out. This book is just over 300 pages but I felt like it could have been told in 200 and been much more entertaining. It seemed like to took pages and pages for a simple scene to be acted out. I was disappointed with this book. Prior to reading this book the only Lindsey novels I'd read were the Mallory novels. They were much more romantic and entertaining. I would suggest reading or even re-reading one of them instead of reading this book. Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK Review: WHEN I PICKED UP JOHANNA'S NEW BOOK I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE CRUMMY FROM ALL THE REVIEWS I HAS READ BUT I LOVED IT. THE STORY OF LINCOLN AND MELISSA WAS GREAT NOT ONE OF HER BEST BUT A GOOD BOOK. I CANT WAIT TILL THE NEXT ONE
Rating: Summary: The Pursuit Review: I would have perfered it be writen all in the English. It has words that hard to figure out. I guess some of it is the way the scottich talk. ( Good Story) writing not what I like.
Rating: Summary: The Pursuit Review: She failed us again! Frankly, I just can't believe Johanna Lindey is actually writing this "poop". I noticed her writings started going down hill with "Love Me Forever", the spark, the passion, and clash of wills was missing. Definately not up to her usual masterpiece quality.... She had a way of making her characters come to life(hell, most of the time I felt like I was the main character when reading her books). MAYBE JOHANNA LINDSEY ISN'T DOING THE WRITING ANY MORE????? I vote for the old Johanna Lindsey to come back.
Rating: Summary: Not her best, but not her worst, either... Review: Twenty-nine year-old Lincoln Ross Burnett has decided he needs to exorcise old ghosts before he can search for a wife and start a family. Thus, Lincoln sets out for his beloved Scotland after a nineteen year absence in England living with his uncle and becoming his heir. What Lincoln doesn't expect is an instant attraction to Melissa MacGregor -- the niece of his sixteen adversaries, all brothers, from his troubled childhood. Melissa MacGregor is going to London to find a husband. Although she hates the thought of leaving Scotland, Melissa has no choice because her overprotective uncles -- all sixteen of her mother's brothers -- have discouraged every suitor who has ever paid her any kind of attention. Shortly before Melissa is to leave Scotland, she meets a man who immediately engages her heart. Lincoln Burnett appears to be just as enamored of Melissa, raising her hopes that the husband hunt will be short-lived. And so the adventure, or more aptly, the pursuit, begins. THE PURSUIT is a sequel to LOVE ME FOREVER: Melissa MacGregor is the daughter of Lachlan and Kimberly MacGregor. It was fun to revisit those characters and see how Lachlan deals with the problems of fatherhood. Problems of which there are many, when Kimberly's brothers refuse to relinquish their overprotectiveness towards Melissa. The uncles, six of whom are named Ian -- which got confusing -- remember Lincoln as a crazed ten-year-old always trying to fight his way through them. They fear his madness has carried over into adulthood and have no intention of letting him become involved with Melissa. The first half of THE PURSUIT is filled with backstory and much narration as opposed to quick action; showing, rather than telling. The middle picked up the pace, but the constant references to Lincoln being crazy, and the lengths that the uncles went to so that he and Melissa were constantly forced apart, got tiresome. The dialogue is classic Lindsey, containing her wit and sarcasm, and the dramatic and poignant ending came as a complete surprise.
