Summary: I love fairy tales!
Review: A dragon appears to terrorize the villiagers of a remote Scottish village. The dragon demands a tribute of money be paid (exactly the same amount of money that was given to someone in the village for betraying the previous laird). The villiagers panic, because they don't know how to obtain that amount of money, so they decide to feed the dragon a virgin instead. Unfortunately, virgins are in few supply. When our heroine trys to talk sense to the villagers, she finds herself bound and delivered to the dragon for dinner.

The dragon is actually the son of the betrayed laird, trying to exact justice from the village. When he receives a bothersome virgin instead of the money he requested, he locks the girl up in the castle tower until he can figure out what to do with her.

True to form, Teresa has once again crafted a fun, fast-paced story that had me laughing out loud at some points. My husband always rolls his eyes at me when I do that.

Summary: Realistic heroine
Review: Heroine: plump, dimpled all over
Sturdy, no-nonsense spinster Gwendolyn Wilder has her hands full trying to manage her unruly flirtatious sisters and senile father. She has very little time or patience for flights of fancy, so when the inhabitants of the cursed village of Ballybliss start blaming strange occurrences in the region on the Dragon of Castle Weyrcraig, Gwendolyn tries to make them see reason. But her attempts at applying logic to the situation only wins her an appointment with the mysterious dragon, bound to a stake and left to her fate in a torrential downpour.

What worked for me:
I love historicals that take place in Celtic lands, so the setting of the Scottish Highlands was a bonus. :^)
I enjoyed watching Gwendolyn work her way through the puzzle that the Dragon presented her. I can't really explain the love story without giving away too much of the plot, but suffice it to say that the man in her life was sexy, roguish, and vulnerable to Gwen's abundant charms. There was also a sweet secondary romance, plus an intriguing mystery to unravel.

What didn't work for me:
It's the merest of nit-picks, but the hero's name just seemed so . . . unromantic for so dashing a figure! :^)

Overall:
A really fun read. I stayed up all night with this book, which I'd been wanting to get my hands on this book since it was first recommended to me for the Dangerously Curvy Novels database months ago. :^) It wasn't a Medieval Fantasy romance as the title might lead one to believe, but anyone with a penchant for European Historicals will enjoy this story.

If you liked "The Bride and the Beast" you might also enjoy "The Accidental Bride", "The Fire-Flower", or "Suddenly You".

Summary: the cover made me pick it up
Review: I saw this book and the cover made me want it before I even knew what it was about. But I definitely wasn't dissappointed. It was My favorite of Teresa Medeiros. Now I buy as many books as I can find with her name on it. TWO THUMBS UP MS MEDEIROS

Summary: a Real sized heroine and a real mand who loves her!
Review: First off I have to say a big "Thank You" To Teresa Medeiros for writting a book with a real sized woman and for having a man who willingly admits he likes larger women. Yeah! About time!. I also liked the fact that the heroine in this story has the same fears and thoughts about her body as modern day women do. It made her so real.
This is the story of Gwendolyn, a virgin who has been sacrificed by her villiage to the Dragon of Castle Weyrcraig. Only the Dragon isn't really real its Bernard the thought dead son of the dead lord. He was thought to have been killed 15 years before by the British. He somehow survives and is now using the Dragon to terrorize the village for its betrayal of his family.
When he finds Gwendolyn tied up to a stake as an offering her is furious but she calms the Dragon and soon works her way into his heart. He is extremely attracked to her but she can't really believe it. It takes quite a bit of convincing to get her to feel good about herself. They have so much to overcome to find happiness but when they do you feel like cheering. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to others by this author.

Summary: The Bride and the Beast
Review: I am only a teenager and I LOVE THIS BOOK. I picked it up after seeing the title (I have a liking for Beauty and the Beast type storys) I had no idea that it was such a romantic love story. It is the book my heart has been searching for a very very long time. It is still today my favorite book and I have read it many many a times.

Summary: Very heart warming romance
Review: I read this book recently and as soon as I finished it, I wanted to go out and buy more of Teresa Medeiros. I love the feeling that once has while reading the book, that the two heroes are really in love and care for each other... it's not just physical attraction for the two of them, but real love. The way the Dragon came back to save her from the wild croud while she stayed back to protect him is so tender. And the fact that she is not a beauty makes it even more heart warming.
Sexual attraction was there, love too... what more can someone ask from a romance book?

Summary: Very, very thin
Review: I wish that Medeiros had not based this book on my favorite fairy tale, "East o' the Sun, West o' the Moon" a variation of the "Cupid and Psyche" myth. This might have been easier to take if, like the title suggests, it was based off the trite "Beauty and the Beast" tale.
After the lovely Gwen is sarcrificed to the Beast, she falls in love with him. This part of the story was fine. Gwen is interesting, and her problems are funny and endearing. The Beast, too is a great character. I was enjoying the whole tale imensely up until the point where the Beast reavels who he was. Then it all fell apart.

Gwen makes an insuffeciently motivated decision on which hinges the whole rest of the plot. Then she makes another incomprehensible choice back in the opposite direction. It's like watching a tennis match where all of the balls go flying wildly into the crowd. If the author had given the poor girl a decent reason, and enough back-up for any of the choices she makes, the plot wouldn't have turned so weak only halfway into the book. As it was, everything hangs by a very thin thread.

I'd have to agree with the other reviewer. Medeiros should stick to books like A TOUCH OF MAGIC, which I loved! Even her spin of Cinderella, CHARMING THE PRINCE was great. This, however is a dud, made worse by it's destruction of one of the best stories ever.

Summary: A Beautiful Romance
Review: Ohhh! I love reading good books, and this was a good one. I read the whole thing in one night. I have read some of Teresa Medieros' other books and I liked most of them, however, The Bride and the Beast is by far her best.

I fell in love with the hero and and heroine from the very first. Gwendolyn was wonderful, she was smart and responsible and for once she was neither spoiled or overly "spunky." The Dragon was so romantic. With all his little gifts and his romanitc letters her he was so charming; and he was actually nice to her. He never had any quarrel with her and he didn't act like it. He always acted perfectly reasonably. Goodness, I can't put to words how lovely these two characters are, they are simply too good for words.

Gwendolyn and the Dragon's love was so real. It was clear from the moment they met that they were perfect for each other. They never hated each other like in most romances. The Dragon was kind to Gwendolyn and she was kind back. Yet despite their kindness to each other, there was passion and sesuality between them as well. It was incredibly reasistic. It makes me want my very own Dragon.

The ending of The Bride and the Beast was rather weak and seemed a little rushed, however, I still loved it. The book is one of the best romances I have ever read. When I finish a book smiling, I know it was good. Let me tell you - I was grinning like a fool.

Summary: Enchanting
Review: This is my second book of Teresa Medeiros and compare to CHARMING THE PRINCE, this book is not exactly up to par. The first part of the book as well as the middle part was thoroughly exciting. The Lord Dragon's scheme as well as his fascination to the captive Gwendolyn was intriguing. Their developement to each other was filled with charm, humor and love. The people of Ballybliss and their superstitions mixed with ignorance contributed a comical spice to the story. The identity of the traitor was also quite unexpected to me. It was truly a page turner until the last part of the book... The ending was a bit too rusty, in my opinion. It was not as fulfilling. Not powerful to leave a mark. It was kindda rushed. I think it can be a bit more detailed or perhaps the way Bernard decided to come home could have been situated differently other than Gwendolyn going after him.

I rated this book a 4 stars (4 1/2 if I could) despite my complaint about the "ending" because overall, this book was enchanting & entertaining nonetheless.
