Summary: Wit, wisdom, and spellbinding love
Review: On a dark and stormy night in 1761, the superstitious Highlanders of Ballybliss receive yet another demand from the Dragon that prowls the shadows of Castle Weyrcraig. To break an old curse laid upon them 15 years ago and to satisfy the demands of the Dragon, the villagers decide on a sacrificial offering that comes in the form of Gwendolyn Wilder, the village virgin. She is bound, staked, and left in the courtyard of the ancient fortress of Weyrcraig to die at the hands of the Dragon. Gwendolyn, however, does not believe in dragons, and the Dragon does not have much of an appetite for virgins. Or do they?

THE BRIDE AND THE BEAST is a sensual romance that centers on revenge and betrayal. This tale is a satisfying page turner, with enchanting lead characters and an emotional storyline. Though it ends somewhat dispassionately, this Teresa Medeiros book is a pleasure to read.

Review: Teresa Medeiro's THE BRIDE AND THE BEAST is a rich tapestry overflowing with emotional drama. Readers will be spellbound and left guessing right up until the end as the climax slowly unravels its memorizing tale.

Known only as Dragon, a fearless creature set on reeking vengeance on the helpless townspeople of Ballybliss. He ruthlessly demands an unrealistic sum of one thousand pounds, the citizens known such a high price could not be provided. They offer the only alternative equivalent to the sum, Gwendolyn Wilder, a well-known virgin. Surprised at the gift the townspeople offer, he is captivated by the spirit and beauty Gwendolyn exhibits. Will she have the power to conquer his lair, his chamber, his bed?

Gwendolyn Wilder lost her heart and the love her life tragically fifteen years ago. Now her life consists of caring for an insane father and three haphazard sisters. When the town forces her to sacrifice her life to save them from destruction, she tries to escape. Unfortunately, she is captured and delivered to Castle Weyrcraig, known as the Dragons Lair. Dragon refuses to reveal his mysterious face, and communicates through a smoky voice, seductive touch, and a ravishing kiss. Will she have the courage to slay the Dragon and capture his heart?

THE BRIDE AND THE BEAST is deftly plotted and beautifully written. Readers will find it an engrossing tale, with a delightful cast of characters. It will long be remembered and revisited many times to come.

I couldn't wait to read this one, and when I did, I wasn't disappointed. I recommend this to anyone who wants to escape into a nicely romantic read. If you like Teresa, I recommend these other romance authors:

Summary: lovely introduction to medeiros
Review: This was my first Teresa Medeiros and it was a pleasant surprise!

Gwendolyn is a chubbier than average girl who is made fun of by the entire village...personally, I think she is just a curvy beauty. Ever since a young child, she has been in love with the laird-to-be Bernard MacCullough. But alas, she will never see him again because he was killed in a surprise attack by the English, which destroyed his whole family, while the village not only didn't come to their laird's rescue, but there was also a traitor within. A traitor who told the English that Bernard's father was hiding a refugee prince and received a thousand pounds as a reward.

Or is he really dead? Recently, a dragon has inhabited the old castle of the MacCullough, demanding food and drink...and a thousand pounds. Unable to come up with so large an amount, the villagers offer Gwendolyn as a virgin sacrifice. As she becomes a guest of the dragon, who keeps his face hidden in shadows and his name a secret, a tension and chemistry develops...overcoming appearance and name. They fall in love with each other, until the dragon's identity is revealed...

This is the part I enjoyed because normally, when the identity is revealed, the story is quickly over. However, TM incorporates many more twists and turns, amazing me. Every time I expect the story to have reached a point where the end is near, another turn of events parts the main characters yet again. Very nice...very compelling. I recommend it!

Summary: Sweet fairytale
Review: This was my third book by Teresa Medeiros and I was not at all disappointed! She took a classic fairytale and made it into a beautiful love story of her own. I loved that the heroine was not a slim wisp of a woman, but a woman of curves and whether she believed it or not, beauty.

The Dragon was the classic hero, very masculine... smelling of sandalwood and spice, meaning that the heroine would sense his presence always even before she saw his shadow in the darkness. I found it so touching that she fell in love with the Dragon without ever having seen his face... she fell in love with him as a person first. Such a romantic tale.

There is an undertone of such sadness to the story. The dragon lived a very hard life after what happened that fateful night and it just pulls at the heartstrings.

Both lead characters had strong personalities which drew me into their story from the very beginning. I grew to love them both and cheered them on towards their happy ending... Don't miss this.

Summary: Cute and Humorous
Review: Miss Gwendolyn Wilder, was perhaps the most learned person in Ballybliss, the local reverend notwithstanding. She did not believe in dragons, but the majority of populus, simple and superstitious, did. The latest note from the Dragon, demanded food and a huge sum of money and so, the villagers decided to give him a 'sacrifice' instead, thinking a nice delectable virgin would do the trick. A virgin sacrifice! So, being the only virgin in the village, Gwendolyn is dragged up to the castle, tied to a pole in the courtyard, and left to await the Dragon.

While Gwen knows that the so-called Dragon is a fraud - how could a Dragon write notes? - and that human intervention had to be the source of lights flickering and bagpipe playing, she does wonder what will happen next, especially since a storm is coming and if the so-called Dragon doesn't get her, she'll die of exposure! As a black shape emerges from the shadows with smoke coming out of it's head, she faints. He carries her to his tower and the games begin where he keeps his identity a secret as he tries exact his revenge and uncover the traitor that caused his family to be destroyed by the English. As he soon becomes more and more intrigued by her, keeping his secret and his hands off of her becomes much more problematic. As the story unfolds, Gwen does discover his real identity and he discovers that in order to exact the revenge he's spent his life planning, he just might become the 'beast' that people think resides in the castle.

The revenge aspect aside, the romance I felt was humorous but on the tepid side until the end when he really did become a bit of a beast - but in the end, love still reigns supreme! The romance between Tupper and Kitty, to me was simply hilarious. I certainly did enjoy this, the first book that I have read by this author. I like her style, which is compelling and does have you feeling along with her characters and I can honestly recommend this book for the joy of pure entertainment.

Summary: Not one of her best
Review: I dearly love a book by Teresa Medeiros--Nobody's Darling is on the very top of my keeper pile--which is why this one was such a disappointment.

There was no electricity between the h/h. He was a hunk with deep problems. She was so lacking in self-confidence that no one could find her attractive. Then, suddenly, she's beautiful. Her hair is shiny. Her face is gorgeous. Her figure is not fat--as everyone in the village thought--but tempting. How did it happen?

The Gothic background isn't interesting or mood inspiring--just crumbling and moldy and creepily unpleasant. There are so many holes in the book it's hard to know where to begin. The castle was destroyed by the English--nonetheless, the hero is able to find his mother's old gowns someplace which are a perfect fit for the heroine. And the villagers leave the heroine tied at a stake for the Dragon to eat--but she still loves them. Never expects them to ask forgiveness.

But most of all, there was no magic. When I finished this book, I decided this must have been a re-issued early novel. It wasn't. So I decided it must be an early novel Ms. Medeiros hadn't sold--it read that way. Rough and uneven and boring. But this is not true either. It's just a not very good book.

Save your money on this. Try most of her others which are, truly, wonderful and magical.
