Rating: Summary: Notoriously HOT! Review: In this marvelous offering from Sabrina Jeffries's follow-up to A Dangerous Love, readers are re-introduced to Lady Helena Laverick. She is a bit of a stick in the mud, ever-so-proper, and distrusts most men on sight. Lady Helena, does have a history with Daniel Brennan from the previous novel and it is touched on and explained here briefly. When she finds that her sister Juliet has eloped with a man she feels is a fortune hunter; and subsequent digging lead her to believe the man might also be a smuggler; she enlists the aid of Daniel Brennan knowing that his past associations with smugglers might help her in saving her sister. When Daniel answers her knock on his door dressed only in his drawers she is embarrassed but secretly captivated and would like to have stared only it would not have been seemly for the disciple of Mrs. Nunley's Guide to Etiquette for Young Ladies. It was only her unfailing love and terror of her sister's plight that would have led Helena to renew her acquaintance with Daniel who had proven himself false to her before, but she needed his assistance and knew that he would be discreet. If not for her, she knew he would do whatever was necessary for the sake of her brother-in-law who Daniel had once worked for. Daniel would have liked to have set out alone to follow the pair but Helena was determined that she would accompany him. Daniel had to fight his attraction to her every step of the way. But Helena is determined to help find her sister, and maybe if she provoked Daniel enough she just might see that underneath her animosity, she was fighting her own fatal attraction. With her trademark hot sensuality and outrageously humorous dialog, the reader is once again in for a wonderful non-stop read. I loved that again, she has give us a heroine that is flawed, with a crippled leg, and love the way our hero teaches the heroine that the only flaw, was Helena's way of thinking. This was a beautiful, funny, feel-good, and sensual story that is a wonderful addition to this trilogy. I am looking forward to the next sequel with heartfelt anticipation
Rating: Summary: Exciting Regency romp Review: London, 1815 Lady Helena Laverick seeks out the only man who can help find her missing sister, Juliet. An extremely proper lady, Helena finds nothing in her personal bible, MRS. NUNLEY'S GUIDE TO ETIQUETTE FOR YOUNG LADIES, to help deal with the rascal, Daniel Brennan, and their precariously intimate position: if Helena wants to travel with him to find Juliet, she will have to agree to pose as his wife, for safety's sake. Son of the late, notorious highwayman "Danny Boy" Brennan, Daniel himself is a former smuggler. Despite being of a lower class than Lady Helena, Daniel has met her before and sees this adventure as a way to become better acquainted with the lady. He is intrigued and admires her spirit, determination and genuine concern for Juliet. Their dangerous quest takes them along seedy back roads of London and into smuggler's haunts that are no place for a lady. Being in such close quarters causes sparks and chemistry galore between Daniel and Helena, which they try to ignore. Daniel wonders how a lady could possibly develop a tendre for a former smuggler, even though he is now a respectable, successful businessman. Both Helenea and Daniel must overcome past hurts in order to move forward in their relationship. His rough upbringing, the childhood disease that left her with a lame leg, and her suspicions whenever a man finds her attractive have the two at logger heads more often than not. Daniel, however, has never met a lady such as Helena, and she has never before met anyone who allows her to just be herself. I recommend A NOTORIOUS LOVE as a delightful, tender, emotional read with a smattering of dark moments that lend to the believability of this fast-paced tale.
Rating: Summary: Etiquette books only cover so much!! Review: Miss Helena Laverick is one of the most prim and proper misses you could probably ever find. She has memorized every page of "Miss Nunley's Guide to Etiquette for young ladies" and has no trust for any man. She knows that no man is to be trusted and that no man will want her because of her lame leg (that was caused by the illness polio). After all her one and only betrothed broke it off once it was discovered about her leg. But now her youngest sister, Juliet, has been kidnapped and she must find her before it's too late! As much as she hates to admit it, there is only one person who can help her... Daniel Brennan is the son of a notorious highway man and was raised by smugglers. Last summer he had to decieve Helena family (A Dangerous Love), and he knows that she still hasn't forgiven him for that. He has sworn never to marry a "stiff-rumped" woman like that! But the fact that she came to him for help to find her sister still makes him feel a little bit good. And he knows that Juliet is a sweet girl and does feel protective over her. After all his best friend married her sister. But now as he and Helena are forced to act as a married couple in order to find Juliet, Daniel starts to see Helena in a whole new light. He sees the woman that she really is but she insists on hiding from others. And Helena starts seeing Daniel too. She sees that he has lived a very hard life and has come out on top even after everything that has happened to him. This story is a wonderful story! It is full of excitment and love. My favorite thing about the book is how the reader can see Helena blooming into her real self that she has kept hidden from everyone. You can also really feel the love grow between the two. The kidnapping is there throughout the entire book and was very well thought out. It is also in Mrs. Jeffries next book. Mrs. Jeffries has done a beautiful job giving just enough information in this book about the kidnapping as not to spoil the next book which deals with Juliet's story. I encourage everyone to read this book. It really was that great!!!
Rating: Summary: It was good... but not as good as I expect from Ms. Jeffries Review: This book wasn't up to Sabrina Jeffries' normal standards. It was a good book, but not in comparison to her other books. The plot and characters lacked the passion of her previous stories. Her other books were so riveting I couldn't put them down, but this one I could.
Rating: Summary: Great story - only one flaw Review: This series fits together so nicely! One can enjoy new characters while still meeting beloved old ones from previous books. The only flaw I found was with the love scenes. I think the author was trying to be new and original and instead made a sensuous scene somewhat laughable with her downright weird names for male body parts.....I burst out laughing several times because it was so absurd. Still, the story more than made up for it. Read the whole series - you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: A lovely story Review: Unlike several other authors I have read, Jeffries is able to take secondary characters from a previous book and expand them realistically. Jeffries brought Helena and Daniel to life and did not change their behaviors or feelings simply because they were now main characters. The adventure and humor was wonderful, and the way Helena and Daniel interacted was great. The two were both useful in getting out of difficult situations in taverns and on the road. (Helena with her cane and Daniel with his glares). And they certainly did manage to get into quite a few scrapes! It was nice not to have a book filled with stupid misunderstandings, but rather with adventure and fun. It would be helpful to have read A Dangerous Love before this book. I can't wait for Jeffries' next book with Juliet!
Rating: Summary: You can¿t go wrong with Jeffries Review: What a wonderful ride to read the adventures of Lady Helena, the lame member of the set of sisters that Sabrina Jeffries' latest trilogy chronicles. The plot rises and takes off from page one, only pausing to linger over the intriguing ruffian-turned-gentleman, Daniel Brennan. Their mission is dire and just as important as the romance. The characters spark fire between each other and there are layers to them that get peeled away as the book progresses. Unlike the other SJ books I've read, the heroines of this trilogy don't have a real profession, but they never settle for sitting around and drinking tea. The setting seems very real, especially the bed bugs! Though two other characters intrude on the book (they only get a few pages, so it's not much of an intrusion), the prose otherwise fascinated me and kept me anxiously turning pages until the end. I can hardly wait for the final volume in the series! ("A Groovy Kind of Love?" :^D ) (Oh, WHY must they title these books so like each other?)
Rating: Summary: Somewhat disappointing... Review: You know how some reviews brag that a book from a trilogy is so strong in itself that it can stand alone? Well, Notorious Love by Sabrina Jeffries CANNOT STAND ALONE. I did not read its predecessor, Dangerous Love, and found the constant referrals to Rosiland, Griff, their father, etc. very irritating. Most readers enjoy meeting characters from previous novels they've read but one must never feel that the previous book is almost more important than the one they're reading! Anyway, to be fair to Jeffries, this novel wasn't all bad. I liked the way she developed Helena and Daniel into full blooded, three dimensional characters. I enjoyed understanding that beneath Helena's prim and haughty exterior lay a frightened, humiliated woman who judged her worth by her polio-crippled leg. And Daniel, the fierce, overbearing hero just needed reassurance that his criminal past would not ruin his future happiness.I won't need to go back and read Book #1 Dangerous Love because Jeffries pretty much spelled out the whole plot in this book. I do, however, look forward to Juliet's story in the next one, After the Abduction, because then all the characters will be familiar. My favourite Jeffries novel is Dangerous Lord, the story of Ian and Felicity.
