Sam Brewer's got his own problems, a mischievous mother and a clinging ex-wife, but when he hears a woman's scream-he runs to the rescue. Sprinting across the yard, knocking down the front door, disbelieving what he sees, Sam realizes that the woman on the floor is Marilee, the woman he had a high school crush on, and he can't help but get drawn into her problems and he soon hopes, her life.
A NEW ATTITUDE is such a warm-hearted and funny story! While suicide isn't funny, Marilee is so unbelievably inept that you just can't help but laugh. She's so prim and proper, especially after she's "rescued" by Sam. You'll love the book just for the first chapter alone. Don't stop there though, because the secondary characters really add life and body to the rest of the story as we see Marilee start to pick up the pieces of her life.
While I definitely enjoyed A NEW ATTITUDE, I would have liked Marilee to be a little more outspoken-especially at the end of the story. I felt as if she had growth with her "new attitude", becoming more self reliant and capable, but I couldn't figure out why she still couldn't speak up for herself, particularly where her ex was concerned, and get her thoughts and wishes across. If you're ready for a fun, heart-warming and a true "power of friendship" book, then look no further-A NEW ATTITUDE will give you all of those-and more!

Summary: Only a very good writer....
Review: can make it seem comical when a woman tries to hang herself, botches it, is discovered by her(gorgeous) neighbor and then trying to recover her dignity is walking around saying "My, I must look a mess. You'll have to excuse my appearance" as she still has the noose around her neck and is dragging a piece of the ceiling beam after her. Just try to picture that.
So Marilee pulls herself together. She gets several interesting (to say the least) jobs and tries to put her life back in order.
But more than that, this is a book about friendships. There are so many wonderful secondary characters but the one who really made me glad I continued reading is Winnie. I just kept reading to see what gems she would come up with next.
So if you want a good read, don't let anything put you off this book. It delivers in fine style.

Summary: If You Love Stephanie Plum...
Review: Charlotte Hughes and Janet Evanovich have a lot in common when it comes to their writing styles. (They do have a few novels out togehter, so that would make sense!) If you like the Stephanie Plum series, then you would enjoy this book. Hughes has a good way of making interesting (and a bit quirky) characters and bringing them to life. The book has funny parts where you'll want to keep on laughing and real parts, as well. It's a good fun read.

Summary: So bad!
Review: I am a big fan of "chick lit" but this book was awful! I think my biggest complaint is that it was just so obvious. Instead of letting us discover the characters quirks on our own, Hughes gives away the whole character upon first introduction. It was beyond predictable, and every character acted exactly as their stereotype dictated. I read the whole book thinking it had to get better, or offer some twist, but no - predictable to the very last page.

Summary: Heroine Hangs Herself and then makes dinner?
Review: I guess I wasn't in the right frame of mind to read this book, because although there were plenty of funny scenes and interesting characters, I kept getting stuck on something. That something was the fact that the book starts with the heroine's attempted suicide. What bothered me was not the topic (with an ER nurse for a mom and a funeral director for a father-in-law I can handle macabre humor), but the fact that after failing, she merely picks up the pieces (literally) of her house and life, lifts the noose from around her neck and goes on to have more adventures in 3 months than most people have in a lifetime, without counseling or any look back. As I kept reading, I also repeatedly wondered just what kind of ignorant idiot the hero was -- he clearly saw that the heroine attempted suicide and just went home after she said she was okay. Could you do that? Wouldn't you have wanted to check on her during the night? Wouldn't you have called a doctor or SOMETHING? And if I were the heroine, I might wonder that given the hero's track record, if I were bleeding profusely and from lack of blood and being in shock, said I was "okay", would the hero just keep walking out the door on his way to work? Maybe I am a little more sensitive than a reader who has not had a suicide in their family, but having lived through that family trauma, I found it hard to get past the set up scene of the book.

Summary: Love this Book!
Review: I just loved this book! Charlotte Hughes is a wonderful writer. The storyline is engaging and extremely thought provoking throughout. If you were the good girl who pined for the bad boy in high school then this book probably reflects aspects of your life. Likewise, if you married your high school sweatheart, were dumped, left penniless, and jobless this book is about you. If teenage pregnancy or child custody issues have affected your life, this book may inspire you.
If everyone had the support that Marilee has from her friends the world would be a better place. The women in this book are strong, wise, thoughtful, funny and caring. This is a great story of strength, endurance, love, sadness, and finding one's self.
Charlotte Hughes, tells a story that puts a song in your heart, a smile on your face, and a longing for the next book.

Summary: laugh until you cry!!!!
Review: I laughed and laughed and laughed until I was in tears. This book is so funny. I couldn't put it down. I can't remember when I have read something so funny. (It's been a long time and it's not like I haven't been looking) It's just hard to find writers that are really funny.
She makes the people in the book come alive, and each has a personality of it's own.
From the first chapter until the last you will laugh. And when you get to the part about the dead body you will laugh like crazy. Man I almost fell off my chair laughing so hard. Please buy the book. I tell you, you will have so much fun reading this book.
Beware, if you're scared to laugh out loud don't read this book in public.
