Summary: wild orchids
Review: I am a very loyal reader of Jude Deveraux.I buy every book the first day it comes out. I was very dissopointed in this book.I had to make my self finish reading it.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Intriging idea, different heros and funny dialogue!
Review: I am not a long-time fan as many of the other reviewers seem to be, but have read a few of her "straight" romance books. While good, they did not set her apart from many other romance writers. In Wild Orchids, Ms. Deveraux presents the often written premise of second love in a fascinating way . . by including a curse, the devil, odd characters, a hero with angst and a heroine with a very sharp tongue. The romance was perfectly suited to this plot - an older man hesitant about a younger woman; an average Jane undecided if a famous author could be interested in her. It would have been unrealistic if they had fallen in bed the first week!
Certainly Ms. Deveraux had some sterotyped country boys with a love of trucks and mechanical things but the exaggeration made the novel funnier. It was not written in such a way as to offend anyone - regardless of their roots (and mine are in the South)- and she showed the best side of family before the book's ending.
All in all, a good read and highly recommended to readers not expecting the same romantic novels previously written by Jude Deveraux. As many of us have done, she's trying something different and it works.

Summary: *sigh*
Review: I am so disappointed. Not only were the characters dull, but it left me absoloutely cold. I have laughed, cried and lived in Jude's world for a very long time. I live in Scandinavie, so getting my hands on her books is very difficult for me. This time I have to say', it wasn't worth it. And to make it even worse, there was a flaw in the printing of it, so I there were 50. pages missing and 50 pages written again. All in all. The biggest disappointment yet.

Summary: A good supernatural/romantic/mystery......loved it.
Review: I did not like the previous novel ,Forever, for its corny supernatural content, but that is one of my favorite things about this new book. I also loved all the characters. Each one had its own endearing quirkiness. Ford's continuing love for his dead wife was also very sweetly and realistically done and his family, hahahaaha, you know you see some of your relatives in there.
That said, what is it with Ms. Deveraux's newest obsession with May/December romances between her characters? Ford has to be at least 15 to 20 years older than Jackie. What's up with that? I have nothing against older man/younger woman relationships(or older women/younger men, for that matter) but jeez, 2 books in a row is just a bit much. I love Ford Newcombe's character and Jackie's but sometimes they were just on different wavelengths because of age alone.
However, the oldest character, the Devil, was wonderfully drawn by Jude. He is sympathetically portrayed and also very creepy at the same time. He is simply, the devil and he more than lives up to his reputation for temptation in this novel.

Summary: We've grown up together
Review: I discovered Jude Deveraux when I was in high school. So thats about fifteen years. I really enjoy her new style. I got away from her for a few years because I myself was tired of the typical romance theme. But I couldn't give her up. She was just too good. Now this is way more interesting. The style she has now is just my thing. I really enjoy it. Thats why I feel we've sort of grown together. I was at a place where I could enjoy her romances years ago, and now can continue to enjoy her refreshing new style. Its so much more....confident.
"Wild Orchids" takes an insight into the writers world. The story is about a writer who cannot write after his wife died.
There is a link with a devil story and an alluring younger woman. Oh dear, I do have to confess it was the part about the renovation of an older home that threw me. When I read "The Mulberry Tree" I was in ecstasies. I was so pleased to read about recovering gardens and restoring old houses again---and all the other things that went on were great too. I even enjoyed the Pullitzer Prize sarcasm story.
Devereaux has more humor in this story. I am reminded of the fun and humor of "The Princess." I really enjoyed that one. This has the same quality humor in it. Really, its quite well written.
I recommend reading this for what it is: a story about two people finding their families with cool backdrops. It is not in her old format and all I can say to that is this to Jude: YOU GO GIRL! GROW, GROW, GROW!!!

Summary: Another good story from Deveraux
Review: I don't believe Jude Deveraux can tell a bad story. Wild Orchids is written in a different format, but that just adds to the telling of the story. Ford and Jackie are more or less thrown together by fate. Ford is still missing his wife, who had been dead for 6 years. He offers Jackie a job which she turns down until she leaves her groom at the alter. Jackie is furious with men when she takes Ford's job offer. This is another beautiful story told by Ms. Devereaux. If you enjoyed The Mulberry Tree you'll want to read Wild Orchis.

Summary: A Different Deveraux
Review: I enjoyed this book. The style was a little different from past books of hers that I've read. She's trying here to write a part mystery novel, part romance fiction. The blend seems to work - at least it kept my attention. The other departure from "formula Devereaux" is that instead of including a storyline or two about an angel this time she introduces the devil to readers. There is good nonsensical escapism here!!!! Some may like it others may hate it. I enjoyed the read.

Summary: This is NOT a romance novel, but I loved it anyway
Review: I have been reading Jude Deveraux for years, and I just love her writing style and her compelling characters. Both were present in this book.

The plot kept me on the edge of my seat, I love the dark aspects and the mystery. I read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down all day.

However, if you are a romance fan, the romance in this book will probably not be satisfying. There are no love scenes, and not a whole lot of sexual tension. Their romance almost seems like an afterthought to the whole book. But, I wasn't reading it for the romance. I was reading it for the ride, for the mystery and for the characters.
I can't wait for her next one!

Summary: Different but well done!
Review: I have been reading Jude Deveraux's books for about 12 years. I think that this book symbolizes a certain maturity in her writing. Yes her romances were phenomenal. But so is this book. Everything from the fact that the devil is in jeans and is just exactly what you'd expect the tempter that satan was to be in human form, down to the young girl's slow fall in love with the older man... turn this into an enjoyable read. I read books aloud for a small group of my friends once or twice a week. We had gotten burned out on romance and were ready for a change. This has been a good change. We are a diverse group and we have all enjoyed working our way through this book.

Summary: Very Disappointed
Review: I have every book Jude Deveraux has written. That tells you how much I love her work. But the last 4 books have been disappointing. "The Mulberry Tree" started out great but dissolved into a mystery novel. "Forever", with it's take-turn 'voice overs' and a female lead that I found I couldn't really care about. (She was more annoying than anything else). Not the strong women leads Deveraux is known for. (This 'he said-she said' continues in "Wild Orchids". Again a mystery novel rather than romance and nothing about the Taggerts or Montgomerys). Then "Forever and Always". The same annoying her turn/his turn and just a filler novel until the third "Always" book comes out to finish the story. There seems to be a running "I really want sex" theme throughout these 4. I noticed in her biography bit at the back of the book she seems to be unmarried/divorced and lives with her small son. If that's what it takes to bring back the old Jude Deveraux writing, take Jackie Maxwell's advice in "Wild Orchids" - 'I decided I needed to start dating'
