Rating: Summary: An original thriller! Review: I truly enjoyed Case's characterization and original plot. Some aspects of this novel are commonplace features in many current thrillers, such as car chases, bad-guy thugs, etc., but in many ways the story rises above most others in the genre. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a suspenseful and creative read...it's also certain to spark many conversations about the premise. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Definatly not a book that you can just read once. Review: I was amazed at the style and technique that John Case presents to his readers. He is definatly and exceptional author. The book leaves the reader to think about his/her position and well being in the world today, and what's going on behind those closed doors. The plot and ending were spectacular. The more you read the harder it is for you to put the book down. I would recomend this book to anyone who likes a good bio-tech thriller and who is willing and able to pull and allnighter. Great job on such a wonderful novel John...I hope that there are more to proceed this one.
Rating: Summary: A forgettable read Review: I agreed with the New York Review of books.I find it hard to believe the reviews from some readers. And an endorsement from Norman Mailer!?THE Norman Mailer. This a predictable plot with lifeless characters. It starts promising enough but when Mr Lassiter enter the scene, the book goes downhill very fast. I could not care less for the characters and for the tiresome ending.
Rating: Summary: Well written thriller with one fatal flaw Review: Terrific right from the start. Listened to the audio version while running and found myself eagerly awaiting the continuation of the story on the following day. Especially well written for a thriller. This was a definite 5* book until the author commited a classic plausibilty flaw for thrillers--the bad guys who have been killing people left and right without remorse get talky when the hero is trapped. I knocked one star off for this one glaring lapse of pausibility. I wish I could have given the book 5* because I loved it in all other respects.
Rating: Summary: This one is a real treat for the reader! Review: All too often I have bought a book that looks promising, only to find the plot and/or characters poorly developed; so it is a delight to discover John Case, whose writing delivers novels packed with all the good things this reader wants in a book! I found "The Genesis Code" absolutely riveting, right down to the last page. The characters (with one notable exception) were skillfully drawn and believable, and the dialogue wonderfully written. The author's descriptive skills are excellent, pulling the reader right into the book. I have only one criticism: I wish Case had fleshed out the main character, Joe Lassiter, a little more... told the reader a little more about what "made him tick". It was his passion for discovering the reason for his sister's and nephew's murders that drove the plot, and yet I found him curiously dispassionate otherwise. However, all things considered, I still give this novel a heartfelt thumbs-up... so much so that I went out immediately after completing it and bought the author's newer novel, "The First Horseman".
Rating: Summary: Outstanding novel and great plot Review: This book is definitely worth reading. However, it has one critical flaw in its plot, and I'm surprised it was overlooked. In it a Priest character deliberately violates the sacrament of Reconcilliation (Confession). A priest would never be allowed to act as outlined - even for a matter as grave as presented in the book! It makes one wonder what other liberties the author may have taken. Yet, it is still an outstanding novel - right up there with the best of Dean Koontz!
Rating: Summary: Very good. Review: Last march 1998, I bought this book at a airport in N.C., awaiting my flight, I had only five minutes to find a store, grab a book and pay for it. The first time ever I was upset that my flight came to an early end in Ca., six hours later was because through rough weather, was that I had not had a chance to finish reading this book. Before, John Case, I read mostly known authors, because once in flight, there is little chance of changing ones mind. I enjoy how he writes and how the reader wants to become involved. Many times I wanted to jump in the story and direct the next move. Enough said, John, keep writing. A new reader.
Rating: Summary: A captivating drama, sure to please just about everyone. Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book, from beginning to end. The plot was mysterious enough to keep the reader guessing throughout, and the author did not give away a single secret. As the plot developed, so did the tension and drama. The characters were well rounded and believable, adding to the distinct flavor of anticipation. It was difficult to put the book down, and I was able to read it in just two days. I recommend this book to anyone interested in a strong read, and willing to dedicate several hours to a most interesting story. The ending is supreme!
Rating: Summary: Great topic, should have ended far better than it did Review: Overall the book wasn't a bad read. The topic of exploring some of the sinister aspects of the Catholic world I found very appealing - especially as I am one ! Unfortunately the book started out promising much but in the end turned out a bit of a fizzer. I was left feeling a great deal more could have been done with the topic - to be honest, the ending was nauseating. However, to the credit of Mr Case (whomever that may be) it certainly makes one want to head off and find out more about the subject.
Rating: Summary: Simply Awesome Review: This author is destined for greatness. This book is the first that has captured me with so much curiousity & enjoyment I found it hard to put it down. Chapters seem to disappear before you know it & the story unfolds like a suspenseful movie. Fast paced & intelligent. This one could so easily be transferred to film. I would highly reccommend this book to anyone. It has the ability to turn everyone into a book lover.
