Rating: Summary: Didn't want this thriller to end! Review: This thriller pulled me in and fascinated me, keeping me up late as I tried to puzzle out whether the secret I guessed (on page 7) was actually going to be the theme of the book (it was). Despite my guessing how it would end, I became so interested in how the plot was going to run that I continued on the roller-coaster ride through fascinating religious territory spiced with unremitting evil. I'm putting myself on Amazon's "notify" list for John Case's next book, The First Horseman, due out in August. If it's anything like this one, I'll read myself scared.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down, thrilling, exciting and very entertaining Review: "The Genesis Code" was a wonderful book to begin our book club. Once I started, I could not put it down. I had to know what the confession was... Mr. Case did a fantastic job capturing our minds. His writing style was very exceptional. His explanation of the fertility methods was well done and easy to follow. Of course, there were a few far-fetched ideas in the book, but that is what makes it a great book of fiction. I hope it is made into a movie. I smiled when I read an article on Dr. Seed who wants to carry out cloning experiments. Not only is he as ambitious as Dr. Baresi, but we were able to use his book to explain some of Dr. Seeds ideas. The genesis code is not really too far from reality. I enjoyed it immensely. Great writing Mr. Case. This refers to the hardcover edition of the book.
Rating: Summary: A for idea, B for execution, F for cheating the reader Review: I solved the "mystery" on page 39 of the paperback edition, but the book was still a VERY entertaining read. Fast-paced, gripping, and full of Crichton-esque believable science. The idea of the book is quite clever and for the most part Case plays by the rules. So in general I recommend "The Genesis Code." That said, Case commits one unforgiveable sin as an author. To try to avoid spoiling the story, I'll explain by way of analogy: Suppose James Bond, during his travels, encounters a locked box with a label on top displaying the phrase "My Secret Plans for World Domination, by Ernst Stavro Blofeld." Suppose Bond takes the box with him to his house, unopened, and puts it on a shelf. Suppose that throughout the investigation Bond continually muses "Gee, I wonder what Blofeld's up to?" And suppose also that every night as he sips his martini, Bond's eyes alight on the locked box. BUT HE NEVER LOOKS INSIDE. As a reader you'd be screaming, not at Bond, but at Ian Fleming for subjecting you to this idiocy. And I was screaming at John Case while reading The Genesis Code. I'm going to read his next book, because overall I enjoyed this one and I'm hoping that he learned his lesson. But if his character is as silly the next time around, forget it...
Rating: Summary: awesome read Review: this book grabs you from first chapter one...suspense, a fast moving plot, and the search for answers we'll keep you up late at night to finish this one. a tremendous debut hope john case can follow this up with another real soon...
Rating: Summary: Excellent read, hard to put down Review: I am not normally a reader of murder mysteries, but this book was recommended by the staff at the local bookstore as the best "unknown" book for Christmas. My wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and I all loved the book. It was hard to put down. The only negative is that the main character "misses" some obvious clues. For example, why was a murder victim exhumed and burnt to ashes with thermite, one of the hottest materials known to man? The main character never asks this question. Other than a few minor quibbles like that, this is an excellent book . Think of it as a murder mystery by Michael Crichton. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: BEST BOOK I READ IN 97 Review: I READ FOR PURE ENJOYMENT. I DONT GET CAUGHT UP IN THE FACTS OR THE DIMENSIONS OF CHARACTERS. I READ ALL THE BESTSELLERS AND I LOVE THRILLERS AND THE LEGAL GENRE. I FOUND THIS BOOK SO DIFFERENT FROM THE OTHERS I HAVE READ. IT WAS TOTALLY COMPELLING. HALF WAY THROUGH THE BOOK, I HAD TO PEEK AT THE ENDING.IT WAS A GREAT READ FROM START TO FINISH.
Rating: Summary: Kind of far fetched but interesting anyway. Review: This book has it all, science, religion, politics and yes suspense. When an investigator's sister and son are brutally murdered, we are taken on an inverstigation that reveals a plot whose purpose is to eliminate several children and their mothers. The common denominator of the murders is their unwitting participation in a biological experiment. The experiment involves human cloning and the Shroud of Turin. You can put together the rest. The most interesting part of the story is the detail John Case provides in how to conduct an investigation. Case certainly knows his stuff. This isn't the first time a story like this has been done, but it certainly is one of the more interesting versions.
Rating: Summary: GREAT! Review: Uniquely plotted, fast paced, great characters. You will read this book fast just to find out what in the world is going on. And you will not find out until the last few pages. Until then, you won't have a clue! Great plot, and the author moves you along quickly. Mr. Case clearly knows whereof he speaks and conveys his story with talent and skill. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: An excellent Pupeteer. Review: I like this book for a variety of perhaps strange reasons, centering on the visible talent of Mr. Case. His turns of phrase are brilliant: "A state of emergency declared in his soul." He begins with simplicity: "Father Azetti was tempted." He concludes with brevity: "And the fish swam away." And in between? A fast-paced plot, movement between Europe and the US, a highly talented high tech investigator using the most "modern" means. Add in carefully designed layers of plots, a nasty and important secret, and a continuing sense of urgency. Case is an excellent puppeteer, pulling the strings and threads of his creation with experience and dexterity. WDC base.
Rating: Summary: Great Read!! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It should be on the best seller list..
