Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: A good follow up to an excellent original Review: "The Flame & The Flower" was the first romance novel I ever read & it got me hooked on the genre. 25 years later, the sequel was a good story, but not as great as the original. It was great to find out what happened to characters that you loved, but Heather's & Brandon's son is not as great a character as his parents. Thus, his love story wasn't as good either. Not a bad story, just not a great one.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: His eye color was wrong!!!!! Review: Overall I enjoyed the book very much but it was hard for me to get past the fact that she changed his eye color. In the Flame and the Flower Beau was born with eyes the same as his father (green and darkly lashed). How could she miss this important detail.....

Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: This is better than Woodiwiss'last novel but still lacking. Review: I found this book very hard to get caught up in. While I was glad at the end I read it I was tired of the main characters addressing each other as maam and sir. There were no 'sparks' between Cernyse and Beau. The two villains Winthrop and Rudd were heavily involved in the beginning and then did not show up until the end again which did not make much of a story line. Not the best Woodiwiss I've read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: TERIFFIC! TERIFFIC! TERIFFIC! Review: I have waited 26 years for a sequel. I read Flame and the Flower back in 1972 about 20 times and kept hoping for a sequel. Well it was worth the wait, I will read this over, over and over. Bravo Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. Please do not let us wait too long for another.Maryann G. Amesbury, MA
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: good Review: Kathleen Woodiwiss introduced me to romance. I went out and bought all her books after reading SHANA,and loved everyone of them. I enjoyed THE ELUSIVE FLAME but was disappointed with the beginning of the book and almost put it down. Her two characters Winthrop and Rudd were complete idiots and not worthy of Woodiwiss, after I got through their ridiculous antics I thoroughly enjoyed the book
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Just loved it Review: I have every book by Woodiwiss and couldn't wait for this one to come out. I am happy to say that I wasn't disapointed. I just loved how the son seemed to learn from the fathers mistakes. It had just as much danger and suspense as The Flame and The Flower and found just as good to read. I think this is a must read.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent!!!! Review: I have read every one of Kathleen E. Woodiwiss's books. And have love each one. Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is ione of her better romances-Vintage Woodiwiss Review: In 1825 England, American Cerynise Kendall deeply mourns the abrupt death of Lydia Winthrop, her beloved companion of the last five years. Cerynise's grieving is suddenly disturbed when Lydia's odious nephew Alistair Winthrop arrives with the deceased's last will, a document that gives everything to him. He offers Cerynise shelter for intimacy, but she says no. So he tosses her out of the house She flees to the docks, hoping to gain passage to Charleston where her uncle lives. She meets a childhood friend, Captain Beau Birmingham, who arranges for her passage across the Atlantic. However, Alistair, realizing that he needs Cerynise to find some missing legal papers, threatens to stop Beau's passage if he fails to release the girl to him. Knowing that he needs to act fast, Beau convinces Cerynise that the only way they can immediately leave London is for her to marry him, which they do. As they sail across the ocean, they begin to fall in love. However, t! hreats to Cerynise's life must be dealt with before the couple can share a lifetime of happiness together. THE ELUSIVE FLAME, the sequel to the classic bestseller, THE FLAME AND THE FLOWER, which was published twenty-five years ago and is to be re-released in October, is a fast paced historical romance that will prove to fans of the sub-genre that Kathleen Woodiwiss remains one of the all time great romance writers. Readers will find the wait worth the time as they will enjoy this sequel as much, if not more, than the prequel because they will care about the characters, especially some "old friends". The addition of tidbits of historical authenticity adds to the flow of the novel. This reviewer strongly recommends both novels. Harriet Klausner
