Rating: Summary: The Stardust of Yesterday Review: Lynn Kurland is an extremely talented author. I have been reading Contemporary and Historical romance for about 7 or 8 years now. My favorite authors have been Jude Deveraux and Julie Garwood. I didn't think anyone else would come close to those two. Then along came Lynn Kurland whose stories are enough to keep me glued to the pages until I am finished. If you haven't picked up one of her books yet, please do. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: fantasies are good! Review: The romance in this novel is indeed haunting. It is an study in "be careful what you wish for it could happen." The heroine fantasizes over the ghost wishing for a corporal being then doesn't know what to do with a true, hot-blooded male when she gets him. We should all be so unfortunate! Lucky for her, he is an adept instuctor.
Rating: Summary: A sweet romance Review: I have to admit I had a hard time buying into the 20th century woman and the 13th century ghost, but I enjoyed the story. There are a lot of "stretches" for the imagination (such as, if all she had to do was sign over the castle, she didn't need to visit it to do so, but then we wouldn't have had much of a story, now would we?). The main character, Genevieve's reluctance to accept her "dream castle" could have resulted in her disposing of it immediately. But once I got past that and past my initial "how is she going to make this work?" with the ghost, Kendrick, I sat down to enjoy it. Ms. Kurland's "texturized" descriptions were very good although once Kendrick became corporeal, things dragged a bit. The consummation of the marriage took a bit long, the game playing of making each other suffer was somewhat insufferable. HOWEVER, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it. Its light and fun and the interaction between the main characters is enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Ever heard of Adrian Paul? Review: Okay, I have to confess. I bought this book originally because the art of the man on the cover looks remarkably like Adrian Paul. I was very wonderfully surprised, however, at how much I actually enjoyed this story. It was sweet, romantic, and funny. The character development may have a tad skewed, but--hello--it can't be easy penning a story of a 20th century American woman falling in love with a 13th century ghost of a grumbling Englishman. If you want an easy read that leaves you dreamy, definately pick this up!
Rating: Summary: Enchanting! Full of magic Review: I'm not really into any romance novel but I love this one. It perfectly combines fantasy with reality. Story is simple but really heart-warming. A loveless girl, Geneveive Buchenan, inherited a huge castle in England for the reason even herself didn't understand. However, she didn't realize that, coming along with this magnificent castle is a handsome ghost from the 13th century!.. Well, Kendrick de Piaget is not just a normal ghost but also an arrogant, full of hatred to all the decesdents of a 13th century witch, Mathilda of Seakirk, who cursed him 700 years ago. And as you can guess, Geneveive is , of course, his target!!... However, at the end, these two hearts finally entwined together and Love does Conquer all!! Mathilda's curse was broken!!..Lynn Kurland's writing style is full of MAGIC!! And reading this book alone can make your heart tremble with alot of emotions ..specially good ones.!! I found myself laugh and smile a lot while reading. The author is capable to describe human's feeling and put it into nicely words. And If you are reading this review for judging whether or not you should buy this book, I say, BUY IT!! Highly recommended!!
Rating: Summary: A must read for all romance lovers! Review: I read this book nearly three years ago and it remains my favorite. It is full of sweet mystery and suspense. Not to mention the gentle romance between ghost and human. A wonderful read from cover to cover!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing and Clumsily Written Review: (...)At times I wondered if the author was suffering from multiple personality disorders with two personalities fighting to define the character. Early in the book we read a paragraph wherein the heroine contemplates how happy her life is and in the very next paragraph we read that she is completely unhappy. If the author was going for "conflicted" she did it very poorly...it merely came off as "jarringly inconsistant". Inconsistancy is the main fault of the book, and it never wanes. Her concerned, loving, supportive staff all quit her employ on the same day, without explanation or convincing dialogue. She is offered a castle and more money she can ever spend and declines it because her "career" is more meaningful to her, and yet three paragraphs later we read that her apartment is flooded with books on castles and dragons and knights because she always wanted to live in one and have a knight in shining armor (yes, I AM rolling my eyes as I type this). She ALWAYS DREAMT OF LIVING IN A CASTLE, BUT WON'T CONSIDER ACCEPTING HER INHERITANCE? Bah! She is supposedly smart and beautiful but she has NEVER dated because she was socially inept and content to dream of her castles - mainly, I suspect, so the author could create a 30 year old virgin. And after she falls in love - and lust- with her ghost and he is changed into flesh and blood she suddenly cannot bear for him to touch her (and he's making bacon and eggs in the kitchen? It's just soooo awful!) until you want to throw the book across the room and tell the knight to just "LEAVE THIS CRAZY WOMAN AND GO FIND SOMEONE WORTHWHILE!!!" Oh, and by the way, when they finally DO make love? You don't get to read it. Save your money, this is a TERRIBLE book written by someone who has no sense of structure or pacing. In a better writer's hand, it might have been charming, but in this form, DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Rating: Summary: A sumptuous, satisfying read! I give it 10 stars! Review: What can I say? This is one of my most worn, ragged books and I love it more each time I read it. Lynn Kurland is brilliant when it comes to blending humor and romance into a spellbinding tale of longing and love found. Kendrick and Genevieve are star-crossed and perfectly matched. She loves all things old and he, after being doomed to haunt his castle for seven centuries, is just the sort of man she wants. She is the last of her family line, and her ancestress is the one who doomed Kendrick to haunt the castle after she helped murder him. He's looking for revenge and then release to join the rest of his family in the next life, but then he meets Genevieve.Genevieve is one of those characters that you feel like you could slip into like a glove so you could be the one being wooed by Kendrick. They have the courage to love despite all the reasons why they shouldn't, and when the tides turn you celebrate with an ecstatic heart. The only thing I had a problem with was that once Kendrick becomes corporeal again, Genevieve is overwhelmed by an absurd and drawn out fear of his affection and love when she had been longing for him madly during the first half of the book. Once Kendrick finally manages to get past the obstacles Genevieve puts in his path with a patience and tenderness that is truly awesome, we see fireworks and good, old fashioned romping with all the trimmings. I have re-read this book no less than ten times and I find more to love about it each time. Add this to your favorite collection, you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Historical Romance with a Paranormal Twist..... Review: I usually read historical romance only, but this book with a paranormal twist (a ghost) was excellent! My biggest problem was PUTTING IT DOWN once I had started it......
Rating: Summary: BOOK THAT CAN'T BE PUT DOWN Review: This is the first book by Lynn Kurland I have read, but will not be the last. I have already purchased several more and in the process of reading (The Very Thought Of You.) Kendrick is to die for and so very good and Gen really knows how to push his buttons. I really loved the book and will continue to read her in the future.
