Rating: Summary: Strong character study Review: I love reading a book about flawed characters - its the perfect ones that you can't identify with. I picked this book up because I'm a sucker for Scottish romance and it said something about being set on the Scottish border. I was disappointed in that respect, but I was not disappointed with the writing. In this historical romance, the naive heroine is believably naive, the hero is strong and sensitive. I thought Ms. Kurland made great efforts to keep them believable (the hero doesn't magically get cured at the end) and from that standpoint I enjoyed the read. I found myself emotionally involved with these characters in more than place and would therefore recommend this book. A good bit of fluff to curl up on the couch with.
Rating: Summary: A Beautiful, Intense Story Review: Christopher Of Blackmoor has made a promise to a dying friend to save his sister from their abusive monster of a father. It is a promise he dreads because the last time he became involved with a woman, she betrayed him and he lost his sight in an accident. He is mistrustful of people, and because he is blind he feels completely useless as a human being. But he does come through on his promise, he offers for Lady Gillian and has her brought to his home.Gillian has suffered horrific abuse from her father, both verbal and physical that has left her traumatized. She has no self confidence of feeling of self worth. These two are so messed up in the beginning of the story you wonder how in earth they will come to love one another. However, Lynn Kurland does a good job of that making that happen without it seeming ridiculous. Gillian does not immediately overcome her tramautic childhood as soon as she meets Christopher, and Christopher does not immediately learn to trust again as soon as he meets Gillian. They both have a long way to go before they can trust each other. I just loved reading about Gillian slowly getting her self esteem back and learning she is worthy of love, and I loved reading about Christopher regaining his feeling of self worth. This is a beautiful story that made me laugh and cry. I stayed up all night finishing it, and didn't want it to end. These two are so deserving of love and happiness after what they have been through, and the ending is wonderful. This Is All I Ask, is Lynn Kurland's absolute best story.
Rating: Summary: Lynn Kurland is the best. Review: I found this book one of the most emotional reads that I have evperienced in a long time. Ms. Kurland has a way of making you laugh one minute, then cry the next. The emotiontions that she gives her subjects of the story are breath taking, you almost feel as if you are there, watching the scene befor you. I love all of her books,(of which I own them all) and eggly await her next book. The way in which she discribes the pain the the two suffer, the full range of emotions, that the two lost soul experence,All I can say is if you miss this book, you have really missed a work of art.
Rating: Summary: This Is All I Ask - by Lynn Kurland Review: One day I was browsing the shelves of the local drug store looking for something to read on my lunch break and found this little gem. This is the first Lynn Kurland book I had ever picked up, but certainly not the last. "This Is All I Ask" has everything from an evil villan, to a little magic and everything in between. Gillian and Christopher are each slightly flawed, however they proove that love can, and will overcome anything. You can read this book one time or one million times and fall in love with the charactors again, and again. Favourite book ever !!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: So sad... Review: I love Lynn Kurland's writing and have treasured every one of hers books. However, I found this one to be beyond the scope of what I could "take" in terms of tragedy befalling a heroine. Gillian's abuse was so gruesome and so unsettling that I found the whole book was very difficult to 'take'. Many romance novels have a theme of "triumph & love over adversity", but I felt this one simply went too far. While I appreciated the happy ending, it didn't make up for the deep sorrow and fear I felt in reading this book. However, I will continue to remain a Lynn Kurland fan !
Rating: Summary: This One Started Me on My Lynn Kurland Collection Review: This book was presented as a recommendation. And WOW was it a great recommendation! I adored this book! The characters had real problems and all did not all turn out perfect in the end -- just like real life! I loved how Christopher and Gillian learned to handle their self-esteem problems, each in a different way because love for each other was all that mattered. I own all of Lynn's books. This is my second favorite book of all time with her "The More I See You" as my favorite.

Rating: Summary: Destined to join my "comfort reads" Review: Although medievals are not usually top of my personal preference list, I do read them from time to time - Bond of Blood by Roberta Gellis was my first one many years ago. It is quite interesting to read the strong feelings readers have had about this book. I think it is best viewed in terms of its fairy tale quality and chacterisations. This is most definitly not, in my view, an historical novel; indeed, it does not even pretend realistically to picture daily life, politics, historical context, social structure, etc, at all. It really is, ultimately, a well-written paean to the power of love which can heal so many of the tribulations which make up our lives. Gillian has been cruelly misused and undervalued; Christopher has lost his sight and with it his own sense of self-worth. Through the love these two find for each other, they learn to put their pasts behind them and temper their individual and collective strengths. She is set free from her childhood into a deep and abiding love; he comes to know that he is valued for his inner strengths and loving heart. What a treat this book was. Overlook the sense of unreality and language and plot details which are clearly out of time synch. Instead, just let yourself come to love and admire the H/H and their extended family and devoted friends. I know I will return to this book again in the future knowing that the emotions it engenders will be of comfort.
Rating: Summary: So beautiful Review: In a time of English knights and castles, Christopher Blackmour was an excellent knight, but he was blinded in battle and now his world has been irrevocably changed. Lady Gillian is a young woman of average beauty who is emotionally scarred from the severe physical abuse and tyranny by her father. Through an arranged marriage, the two are united and together they begin to heal each other's wounds and rebuild their lives. Well written and emotionally gripping, this is by far one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. The characters are well developed, the plot is well thought out and the ending just makes you teary. If you never read another romance novel in your life, please try this one.
