Rating: Summary: My new favorite!!!! Review: This book was absolutely wonderful!!! It had all the elements! The strong heroine, the gorgeous, lusty hero and an excellent plot! I love reading about scrawny, gawky girls who turn in to gorgeous beauties and show everyone!!! (...) I felt every emotion with this book. I laughed out loud, I cried, I hurt for Whitney and then for Clayton....I cannot say enough about it!! This is a wonderful, extraordinary book!! Judith Mcnaught is an excellent writer and every time I pick up one of her books I am entranced!!! Thanks Judith for filling my time with beautiful, worthwhile reading.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!! Review: My friends and I litterally compare every romance novel that we have ever read to this one. And all of our convorsations either start or end with "I cant beleive that Clayton did that to whitney!" Then we launch into this big huge disscussion about the book. This is a must read! I strongly reccomend it!
Rating: Summary: disappointed in Dallas Review: I had heard about this book and decided to give it a try. I was sorely disappointed. The hero,Clayton, has serious anger and power issues. He actually rapes the heroine and after their marriage moves out of their room because he believes she slept with someone before they were even engaged. What a double standard!! He has a reputation for being the biggest seducer in Europe and he (incorrectly) assumes she has slept with someone and feels righteously justified in leaving her, verbally abusing her, and humiliating her. Several times in the book he grabs her and it talks about her being in pain from how he roughly treats her. We're supposed to believe that he loves her soooo much he is driven by jealousy to do these things. I'm sorry, but rape and calling someone a b**ch is NOT love. I can't believe all these people that gave this book such high ratings. What a farse!!!
Rating: Summary: A favorite of mine Review: Whitney Stone has been a disappointment to her father since the death of her mother. He hasn't be able to control her during her adolescent years. She has been an embarrassment to everyone the way she has "ran after" their neighbor Paul, having a childish crush on him. Paul is 4 years older than her & thought of Whitney as a little sister. Whitney's father has come to the decision to send Whitney to live with her aunt and uncle in Paris. Maybe her aunt can do something with her.Under their loving guidance, Whitney blossoms into a beautiful young lady. She experiences the excitment of Paris and is all the rage at the parties and balls. It is at one such ball that she dances with a mysterious man, not knowing that he is the Duke of Claymore- the most sought after bachelor around. Clayton decides that he has to have Whitney. He sets out to find out who she is and discovers that her father is in desperate financial need. During a visit with Whitney's father, Claymore makes a monotary offer to become betrothed to Whitney. But it is to be kept a secret for Clayton wants to court Whitney so she will have a chance to get to know him before she is told of their engagement. Whitney is returned to England, excited to be back home and plotting to convince Paul that she is his "true love" for she has never given up on their getting together. Clayton also moves to England to be close to Whitney, but hides his identity from her. It is through deception that Clayton courts Whitney. From the very first, Whitney forms a dislike for Clayton and things go downhill from there for them. Clayton has a hard time handling disappointment. He is use to women "falling all over him" and having his way. And though Paul is slow about showing interest in Whitney, she is convinced that it will come. Talk about a roller coaster ride! There are all sorts of misunderstandings. And Clayton is determined to have Whitney. Whitney becomes confused with her feelings... when she finds out who Clayton really is and what he has done (bought her to be his bride) she is furious. Things only get worse. At one time, you'll think there is no way they will get together. The table changes and Whitney starts doing the chasing. Boy, the love Clayton has for Whitney is so strong that it is blinding to him and makes him literally crazy. And their love-hate relationship will make the reader go crazy- it is so emotional. I enjoyed it. I understand were some looked at Clayton as being demanding and forceful- but don't we see that in the majority of regency romances?! Anyway, I hope you will read it for your self and see what you think.
Rating: Summary: Must Read! Review: I happened to run across this book at the library. After I read it, I had to buy it! It was my first JM book and the best romance book I have ever read!!! It kept me up at night until 2:00 in the morning! I could not put it down. Now I find myself comparing every book to Whitney, My Love and there isn't one that compares!!! I look forward to reading Until You and A Kingdom of Dreams!!
Rating: Summary: Judith does it yet again! Review: I was absolutely riveted by the storyline of this book. Watching Whitney grow and fall in love with Clayton throughout the story was breathtaking. I was in such suspense waiting for her realize her true feelings for him instead of Paul. I never stopped hoping that she would realize who truly loved her. And Clayton... oh wow... he was such a HUNK... like all of Judith's heroes. The love scenes were tender and sweet, like always. No one... and I mean NO ONE writes a love scene like Judith McNaught. They are so tied up with emotion and tenderness that it just makes your heart heave with emotion. Awesome! That's is the one word that describes this book to a tee.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful.... Review: Judith McNaught has captured me heart, again. I instantly fell in love with this story, and with Whitney and Clayton, thoroughly enjoying the development of their relationship. McNaught has a very keen way of evoking sympathy toward, as well as animosity toward her characters at just the right times. The dialouge is extremely witty and intelligent, and her overall observations are touched with just the right amount of flowery descriptions combined with blunt ones. Again, she seems to know when to extend a metaphor, and when to use simple, direct terms. But what I truly enjoyed the most was the powerful emotions that I felt from both Whitney and Clayton in their endless love-hate-love-hate-love relationship. Perhaps the only qualm I had with WML, was that I felt some of the scenes, dialouge, and description had been recylced in her other novels. Having read (and highly recommend!) Until You, and Kingdom of Dreams, I couldn't help but be distracted in some scenes that seemed to reoccur in all three novels, and the descriptions of some of the actions. I think I eventually lost count at how many times the hero stood in front of a fireplace casually slapping tan gloves against a muscular, midnight blue clad thigh... :) Like I said before, this book was very powerful emotionally, and I challenge anyone to read about Whitney and Clayton and not come away un-moved!
Rating: Summary: Amazingly Touching Review: Here, Whitney is one of my favourite hero of all times. She is witty, sassy and such a an inteligent girl. I trully love the characters in this book as well as clayton westmoreland. I just wish that Judith Mcnaught write more of historical novel in the future.
Rating: Summary: Can I give it 4 1/2 stars??? Review: I first read this book in the paperback edition, and I enjoyed it. Not my favorite Judith McNaught book, because that's Paradise, and I still can't get over that one, but it's a great book nonetheless. Clayton and Whitney are an amazing couple, and Judith McNaught spun this creation with a vivid imagination and only be described as loaned from God. The hard cover is great because it picks up a little of what was left off of the paperback. And it just continues to add to the story. The paperback edition ends a little abruptly, so the hardcover takes care of the loose ends that you might feel. It's also great b/c other books were spun off from this one that I thoroughly enjoyed as well.
Rating: Summary: simply the best Review: This is the book that started it all. This was the first time I had heard of Judith McNaught and I fell so hard for Whitney and Clayton that I have eagerly awaited McNaught's every book. Her characters are unique -- believable, funny, charming and this story, in particular, makes you want to fall in love all over again.
