Rating: Summary: Wonderful, but slightly degrading to women. Review: I recently started reading Judith McNaught a few months ago when recommended by a friend. I began with Until You and so, when I realized there was a prequel, went back to read Whitney, My Love. Well, I absolutely loved the charming hero and very quick-minded heroine, but I must say I was upset at the role of Whitney. After Clayton practically rapes her, she believes she has done him wrong, pitys him, and runs to him to grovel and beg for his forgiveness. I would have been happy to see a little more effort on his part. But I was happy with the ending. A must read for all McNaught fans! Other JM favorites include Almost Heaven and Once and Always.
Rating: Summary: McNaught's written better than this Review: This book could have been so enjoyable, but I found the whipping and rape scenes too disturbing to enjoy the book as a whole. McNaught's heroines tend to be smart and independent women, so why--if they have these qualities--would she have this particular heroine accept degrading treatment from any man, most particularly the one she is supposed to love? Romance novels naturally include conflict between the hero and heroine, with love eventually conquering all, but this story seemed all about Clayton dominating and controlling Whitney, not about loving her. I don't find physical and emotional abuse entertaining and that's pretty much all McNaught wrote in this book. I don't believe whipping or raping a woman is a natural response to a misunderstanding. Rape is a violent crime, not one of passion, and McNaught treats it as a forgivable action done in the name of love. I found that utterly distasteful and unbelievable. If Clayton would have talked to Whitney about what she had done rather than acting on impulses most of the time, I would have found him a much more likable character. As such, his cruel behavior was too much for me to find this book at all entertaining. I would encourage you not to read it.
Rating: Summary: The most incredible romance ever! Review: I have read my share of romances... Whitney and Clayton had me laughing when I wasn't grabbing for a kleenex! It was just incredible and I don't believe I will ever read a more entertaining and incredible book in my life. If you love romance, that's all you need to know. Just be forewarned, the first chapter is for your info, skip it if it gets too boring. The rest of the book in nothing like it!
Rating: Summary: Rape and abuse do NOT make a romance! Review: I love romances, and I love much of Judith McNaught's work, but I have to say, I read this book and I felt dirty afterwards. I read most of Mcnaught's works before I started this one, figuring I'd save the best for last because of the incredible fuss made over it, but boy, I was dissapointed. I couldn't believe the hero raped Whitney! And that she still groveled for him after that! Sure, a certain amount of dysfunctionality in relationships makes the story more interesting, but this book takes it to the extreme. Not only is there physical abuse, there's psychological and emotional game-playing as well. I tried re-reading this book later and I tried very, very hard to like it, but I just can't. I don't know how the two protagonists ever fell in love; there seemed to be a lot more humiliation and abuse than love. And does anybody ever notice that all of the heroes in McNaught's books are tall, dark-haired and filthy rich? It's true, Mcnaught is a formula writer, and if you've read the other novels, do yourself a favor and skip this novel.
Rating: Summary: The best there is to read Review: I began reading romances in the third grade when I would sneak my Mom's novels and read them while she was at work. In the past 20 some odd years I have read thousands, and this is simply the best. I enjoy all of McNaught's books, but this is the standard for all others. Even my husband knows who Whitney is!
Rating: Summary: one of the best book i've ever read!! Review: Whitney My Love is my second Judith McNaught book and i love it very much. Ever since then I've tried to buy all the books she writes. Unfortunately in my place it's not easy to find such books. I love the characters in this book so much. Whitney is my favourite heroine of all her books and Clayton is just the man of my dreams. This book is a must read !!!!
Rating: Summary: Loved it! Review: I think this is Ms. McNaught's best....Whitney and Clayton are definitely memorable! Although I'd have to say that I was secretly rooting for Nicki DuVille, too..... The sequel, Until You, is something of a disappointment though after this great first book .... the same storyline, plot, etc. but everyone from the first book makes a return (including Nicki). Have to find that book where Nicki finds his own love.... what was it called, A Gift of Love? Well, definitely read Whitney, My Love!
Rating: Summary: Mesmerizing, delightful...and heart warming!!! Review: This is the book to read if you want to laugh or cry, if you want to feel what the characters felt. This book has it all. About a beautiful witty young woman who claims to know what she wants, and becomes very stubborn when something is chosen for her. With her startling green eyes, she captures the heart Of Clayton, the Duke of Westmoreland. This duke is not like any other duke. He is charming, seductive, gorgeous and head over heels in love with Whitney. He cherishes he over anything or anyone else, of course but it has to be within reason. The book takes you up and down, and I, myself have read this over 1,000 times. And i laugh, and cry each time. I strongly recommend that you purchase this Book. Judith sure does know what shes doing. Great Job Judith, now all other men pale compared to Clayton.
Rating: Summary: JUDITH'S BEST EVER!!! Review: Whitney my Love is a classic of Judith McNaught's. Whitney, with her incredibly green and innocent eyes and Clayton with his rugged sex appeal form a gorgeous and highly unlikely combination.
Rating: Summary: The best developed characters in all of McNaughts novels. Review: In this book, Judith McNaught develops her main characters well and weaves an intricate series of plots that keep the reader enthralled. I wish she would spend more time on her newer books to regain this wonderful blend of character and blot which characterize this, her first novel.
