Summary: It could have been really really good...
Review: I first read this book when I was about fourteen years old and seriously getting into a marathon romance novel read-a-thon, that as yet hasn't abated (though it's tapered off a bit). At the time, I thought this book was great--had sex, had good writing, some humor, etc. The rape and whipping scenes struck a slightly discordant note, but I ignored them and read and reread the book. My copy of the book was mislaid, but then I saw it in some superstore and started reading it again. The humor was still there, the overall quality of the writing was still there, but the overwhelming darkness of the codependent and abusive relationship between Whitney and Clayton was too much to ignore or overlook once again. Rape is NOT romance or a "crime of passion."

Summary: The BEST Romance Novel I've Ever Read!
Review: I started reading romance novels because of this book. After I read this novel, I was so touched and inspired by the characters that I had to read more of Judith McNaughts's books. Clayton may not be the perfect man for everyone but he's the perfect man for WHITNEY. I totally love Clayton, Whitney and Nicholas. I cannot understand how other readers can critisize Clayton! Of course I think violence and rape is bad but if you read the story carefully, it says there that he had all BUT raped her. In that scene, in the end, Whitney gave her virtue to Clayton because she thought she owed it to him- which isn't so bad as compared to accusing Clayton of rape. I've read this book a thousand times- I know every little detail. It's true that Whitney should have made Clayton grovel more in the last scene but true love is about forgiveness.

Summary: If they allowed a zero-star rating I'd give that.
Review: I love Ms. McNaught's contemporary romances. This one deeply disturbed me. It only deserves to be considered romance if you believe that A) a man is ever justified in beating a woman, B) that woman are children who need to be controlled my men strong enough to dominate them, C) that rape is forgivable under any circumstances, and most disgustingly D) that a woman should deal with this by coming to submit to a man and loving him despite all his previous violent acts. Whitney actually says (paraphrased) "It's OK if you hurt me every night as long as you say sweet things to me." Excuse me?!? I can't see how this book can be a fantasy to anyone except someone trapped in an abusive relationship who thinks maybe last night is the last time he'll beat me. And that's a dangerous fantasy to perpetuate. Ms McNaught has done her readers a grave dis-service by presenting this relationship as an ideal one. I urge readers not to buy this book. I can't even loan you mine because upon finishing it I ripped it up and threw it out.

Summary: Clayton...
Review: Don't get me wrong, I loved this book and cannot deny Judith McNaught's ability to kick out a fantastic romance, but I just don't understand why Whitney gave him her unconditional love. I will be the first to admit that I love my hero's strong, demanding and arrogant, however, he totally treated her like dirt. He never gave her the opportunity to explain anything and he never said he was sorry. If you ask me, Clayton should have been the one to grovel at Whitney's feet instead of the other way around. I loved the dinner scene!

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read!!!!
Review: Anyone who doesn't give this book a five star rating is insane! This is one of those classic romance books that lives on and on in your memory. I read this book ten years ago at least, and I still think about the characters of Whitney and Clayton. Clayton is definitely not your namby-pamby type hero and Whitney is an intelligent and witty heroine. They are the perfect match. This book had me laughing and crying. I read this book at least once a year when I get tired of reading bad romance books. This book set the standard that few romance books ever truly reach!

Summary: A must read!
Review: As much as l thoroughly enjoyed the characters of Clayton, and Whitney, I would love to read a story about Nick DuVille. He was such a memorable character in both this book and Until You, he deserves his own story. Not just any woman would do. I hope Ms. McNaught writes about him, and decides to pair him with a woman deserving of his affection.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: there is no hero here
Review: clayton has a terrible temper,so terrible he rapes a woman he says he loves.he jumps to all the wrong conclussions and befor whitney can explaine hes out of control.not one of manaughts best.

Summary: Forget Clayton--Nicholas should have been the hero!!!!!!!!!!
Review: JM is a great writer but sometimes her heroines are annoyingly perfect--hence Whitney. And her leading men are all rich, gorgeous, and jaded. Please! Nicholas saved the book with his wit and charm. A couple of hundred pages about a hero like him would be worth my time--not one like Clayton who rapes and whips Whiteny (and she still wants him). They are pathetic!

Summary: By far one of the BEST romance novels ever written!
Review: I can count on my fingers the number of books that have touched me in the same way this novel has. Judith McNaught did a superb job with these characters. Who could not help but fall in love with the likes of the dashing Clayton Westmoreland or want to knock some sense into Whitney Stone for her outlandish behavior? Yet in the end I found myself learning those same important lessons about friendship, love and trust that our hero and heroine were destined to discover as they embarked on the romance of a lifetime. Once I picked this book up I could not put it down. I was actually disappointed that it had to end!

Reading this book, prompted me to read every book I could get my hands on that Judith McNaught ever published and I have yet to be disappointed by anything Ms. McNaught has written. That is more than I can say for any other author that I am fond of.

Summary: I love Mrs McNaught's books
Review: I loved this book, and after that, I loved "Until You" (the Stephen's Story) . Now, Mrs McNaught we are waiting for the Nicholas Du Ville's story! Please, please, keep writing!
